Life pressures and unhealthy lifestyles are very influential, coupled with increasingly rapid technological advances and various diseases that are being suffered causing a decrease in a person's condition so that it triggers stress. Psychological disorders such as depression and stress that are common in the DM population, require proper treatment because they cause a drastic reduction in quality of life. Objective: This research was conducted to determine the relationship between stress and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes. Method: This research is a correlation analytic type with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all patients with type 2 DM in outpatients in Poso Regional Hospital as many as 2023 people, with a total sample of 137 people. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 42 (DASS 42) and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis (mann whitney, kruskalwallis and Spearman Rank) are used to look for relationships between variables. Results: Age related to quality of life in the physical domain (p0.05), duration (long suffering from type-2 diabetes mellitus) was associated with quality of life in the physical domain (p0.01), stress had no relationship when associated with all quality-of-life domains. (p0.05). Conclusion: There is no relationship between stress and quality of life in type 2 DM patientsKeyword :Quality of Life DM type 2, Stress

Abstract

Abstract

Heart failure (HF) patients may experience fatigue and poor sleep quality due to impairment in cardiac structure or function. These distressing symptoms may create a vicious circle leading to poor outcomes but often undervalued and ignored among patients. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between fatigue and sleep quality among patients with HF in Indonesia. A cross-sectional, correlational study design was performed with 153 convenience samples recruited from a cardiology outpatient department at a medical center in Indonesia. Descriptive statistics, bivariate analyses (independent t-tests, one-way Analysis of Variance, and Pearson correlation), and hierarchical regression analysis were utilized to analyze the data. Instruments included demographic characteristics and clinical variables questionnaire, the Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue (MAF), and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The mean age of participants was 61.86±10.79 years old and the mean duration of HF diagnosis was 4.26±5.48 years. All participants complained of fatigue, while 73.2% had poor sleep quality. Participants who were poor sleepers had a higher proportion of individuals used massage, not having taken dyslipidemia drugs, had normotension or well-controlled blood pressure, and suffered from hypertensive heart disease (HHD) and renal diseases. All fatigue domains, except the degree of interference in ADL, was significantly associated with sleep quality. However, only the timing domain determined sleep quality, meaning, the longer the fatigue, the poorer the sleep quality. This study suggests future interventions should be directed to decrease the level of severity, distress reduction, and particularly shorten fatigue duration should be developed to improve the sleep quality.

Abstract

Hypertensive patients are often found to suffer from psychological disorders. Stress in this population can disrupt the cardiovascular system which has the potential to worse the patient's condition. This study aimed to examine the relationship between stress and blood pressure components of hypertensive patients. Descriptive correlation design and cross-sectional approach were applied. A total of 196 hypertensive patients were recruited using a convenience sampling technique from a general hospital in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation was used to examine the relationship between stress and blood pressure. The overall stress score was 24.29 (SD=6.36), with the dominant category was severe stress (48.4%). The participants' mean systolic blood pressure was 160.31 mmHg (SD=12.81) and diastolic was 85.97 mmHg (SD=7.55), the majority belonging to stage 2 hypertension. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were not significantly correlated with stress (p>0.05). Doctors and nurses should not only pay attention to patient's blood pressure, but also focus on the psychological condition of patients. Future studies are expected to evaluate interventions that can reduce the psychological pressure of hypertensive patients.
