Abstract

The tittle of this research is “The Role of Ki Suwadi on Develop East Java Leather Puppet GagragTrowulanan on Jombang regency” such as research focus of social construction study and the function structural. This research questions was formulated as follows: (1) how is the universal conception the instrumental of gagragTrowulan(2) How to Ki Suwadi safe and develop east java leatherpuppet gagragTrowulan. This Research method that use in this research is qualitative research, and the data validity used triangulation data that is data research use three methods, that is legwork with observation, interview, literature review and transcription from source audio-visual.The result of this research is the process of Ki Suwadi from “nyantrik” for senior mastermind gagragTrowulanis Ki Pit Asmoro. Ki Suwadi very take effect for the development of East Java leather puppet gagragTrowulan until now. His pakeliran get a good respond from the society, be evidenced a lot of young mastermind who doing nyantrikactivity to him. All of The students of Ki Suwadi become a mastermind. They are become a famous mastermind in his area. Abstract

This writing is meant to explore and identify wayang gedog; to design a model of wayang gedogshort performance; to compose and publish a guidebook for a practice of wayang gedogperformance; to socialize the short performance of wayang gedog for social appreciation; and tomake a learning media of wayang gedog in VCD. The research targets include identification ofwayang gedog life and derivation; composition of a model design for wayang gedog shortperformance; composition and publication of a guidebook of wayang gedog performancepractice; socialization of a model of wayang gedog short performance to society; composition ofa learning media of wayang gedog in VCD; and publication of this article in an accredited journal.This research applies descriptive qualitatif method and act analysis. The ways executed includelibrary study; observation and documentation; interview; descriptive qualitative analysis;designing a model; trying out the model ; evaluation and model improvement; learning mediapacking; and socializing the model of wayang gedog short performance to the society.Theanalysis shows that revitalization and innovation on the short wayang gedog can be divided intothree variant including: lakon Jaka Bluwo with a palace aesthetic model; lakon Angreni with a“new” aesthetic model (academic); and lakon Sekar Tanjung with a ruralaesthetic.Keywords: revitalization, innovation, scarce wayang, wayang gedog performance, society.

Abstract

In puppet show, there is a war of life and death between Pandawa and Kurawa called Baratayuda Jayabinangun. Object of this research is focussed on the characters Pandawa and Kurawa. They represent evil and virtue, protagonist and antagonist, truth versus evil. This reseacrh aims to describe  the aspects of  Marx theory of conflict in relation to Baratayuda as the conflict solution of Kurawa and Pandawa. The researcher uses sociological perspective by positioning the Marx theory of conflict as the analysis  tools. The result shows that: (1) the conflict of Kurawa-Pandawa is based on the material as well as psichological factors, namely kamukten of the state Ngamarta and Ngastina and Duryudana’s characteristic, ambeg angkara murka; (2) the conflict of Kurawa-Pandawa can be categorized as social conflict; (3) Pandawa’s struggle cannot be categorized as the struggle between  the poor and the rich to avoid Kurawa’s pressure. It is not proporsional to be placed in Baratayuda context for the conflict of Kurawa-Pandawa is not formed of economic factor.Key words: Bharatayuda, conflict, Pandawa-Kurawa, Marx

Abstract

Serat Srikandhi Meguru Manah is one source of lakon in puppetry, which is still in Javanese language. Therefore, transliteration and translation become the first steps undertaken in this study. This study aims to understand the meaning, function, and the variety of literary values and language styles contained in the script in the form of Javanese song (tembang). A literary approach is used to analyze the elements of literature and language style. The results of this research are the translation and analysis of literary elements including sasmita tembang, tembung garba, tembung dwilingga and tembung tanggap “na” and also the elements of the language styles: simile, personification, hyperbole, and purwakanthi.Keywords: literature, language style, serat, Srikandhi Meguru Manah

Abstract

Ketoprak is a local cultural heritage of Central Java (Surakarta) which is still popular with its people, even though its existence is up and down. The situation began to be marginalized into the original habitat, and enchanted to like a new aesthetic that causes ketoprak to shift its function and orientation. The development of Ketoprak in Surakarta is always dynamic, requires renewal to harmonize with the turmoil of people's lives, and the demands of the times. It needs the right creativity so that ketoprak as a local cultural heritage still has the spirit of Javanese tradition, as well as being alive and building the cultural identity of Surakarta and not distorting. This can be judged by how much the attention of the public, and officials / institutions related to the growth and development of ketoprak, as well as how consistent the actors in maintaining the conservation of traditional ketoprak art. Conservation is the preservation or protection that aims to protect the richness of art and culture, in this case the traditional art of ketoprak. Ketoprak must find an alternative solution so that its existence does not die. The most preventive and effective solution is the revitalization as well as the development of ketoprak for the regeneration of connoisseurs (spectators), as well as decoys (prospective successors) ketoprak art. The revitalization of ketoprak is one of the primordial steps to revive the interest of the younger generation in the traditional arts of ketoprak especially in Surakarta, so that ketoprak continues to exist as a local cultural heritage.Keywords: Ketoprak, Existence, Conservation, Revitalization

Abstract

This article discusses the meaning of the term "sacred" in Javanese cultural traditions. Understanding the meaning of the term is considered important in the current era, because many people still do not understand it. The impact is that the possibility of the emergence of pros and cons among certain parties to the understanding of ritual culture carried out by certain communities is very possible. The purpose of this article is to try to explore and re-interpret the nature of "sacred", so that in turn it can provide the proper understanding to the community. "sacred" is not merely sacred and wingit. It is more than that. "Sacred" is a process of understanding life in relation to the Creator, which is essentially able to change human attitudes and behavior to be better because it undergoes a process of purification to be free from the darkness and a proof of oneness with the Creator. Keywords: sacred, ritual, meaning, Javanese culture

Abstract

Karangmojo Village, Sub District Jenar, District  Sragen has a unique tradition namely a ritual conducted by local community. This ritual is held to celebrate a wedding ceremony by performing Tayub. This research aims to: a) describe the wedding ceremony at Karangmojo Village by performing Tayub as its ritual means, b) interprete the meaning of movements and melody (gendhing) in Tayub dance.  The style of this research is interpretative discription of aqualitative nature. The first step in this research is data collection trough field study , observation and interviews, and the scond step is data processing by analyzing qualitatively the form, function and meaning. Those steps are applied consecutively beginning from reduction, data reformation or display, and ending in conclusion. This research uses  a holistic approach involving all aspects in performing art. The research result shows that the performance is meant as a gratitude and request  to God hopping that the wedding will last eternally, be blessed, and be protected against disturbance, be granted all desire, have a child and happiness.Keywords: ritual, Tayub, meaning,Sragen.   Pengantar

Abstract

This paper focuses on the East Java Sindhènan Surabayan with the problems namely what form of gending that requires Sindhènan; how is the position of sindhènan in the presentation of Surabayan East Javanese traditional music; and how is the view of the East Javanese musicians about the aesthetic aspects of East Javanese Surabayan Sindhènan presentation? To answer this problem the ethno-art approach is used. The research data is obtained through literature studies, observations, and interviews. The results show that East Javanese Surabayan gending that involve Sindhènan elements is gending which has a similar form with srepegan, ayak-ayakan, ketawang, ladrang, ketawang gending, and kethuk loro kerep composition in karawitan Surakarta style. East Javanese Surabayan gendhing that require the sindhènan are gecul (humorous) and gobyog (crowded). The East Javanese Sindhènan Surabayan text is dominated by a parikan, while senggakan, isèn-isèn, and wangsalan represent a 'new' development which is influenced by the Central Javanese sindhenan, especially the Surakarta style. The concept of ngepas and nungkak is a tendency to the treatment of East Java sindhenan Surabayan because it is considered in accordance with technique of tabuhan.Keywords: sindhènan, East Java Surabayan, Position, Concept

Abstract

Prophetic art is art that contains prophetic and divine values that synergize the universal values of humanity and divinity, namely truth, goodness, justice, and beauty. This research aims to describe the prophetic ethics in wayang. The analysis shows that Islam, as rahmatan lil alamin, certainly takes part in participating fastabiqul khairat to develop the progress of civilization through art. Wayang Purwa, with a set of gamelan along with stories and new puppet characters, have been created by Walisongo as a means for Islamic teachings which contain prophetic values. Keywords: Prophetic Art, Walisongo, Wayang Purwa.

Abstract

Adultery is often regarded as betrayal because of its disloyalty towards oneself, others, and the Divine. Adultery is a very serious moral crime because it destroys human dignity as the supreme creature of Divine creation. Therefore, anyone who has committed adultery in religious language is called sin. The purpose of this study is to analyze adultery in wayang characters namely Wisrawa and Sukeksi. The meaning approach is used to analyze the problems. The results show that the sin of adultery does not only give a negative impact to the perpetrators but also to their offspring. Adultery is a moral offense and the offender will get moral sanctions from the community (social sanctions) as well as from the Divine. As a result of the parents' actions, their offspring also bear the sanctions. The sanctions referred to in the fictional tradition often appear in physical, mental, or behavioral defects.Keywords: meaning, adultery, wayang stories, Wisrawa, Sukeksi
