Abstract

Gunung Omeh Sub-District is renowned for its production of Jesigo oranges. With an area spanning 156.54 km², one of the areas within Gunung Omeh Sub-District known for Jesigo orange cultivation is Nagari Koto Tinggi. As one of the largest Jesigo orange-producing regions in West Sumatra, it is essential to empower citrus farmers in Nagari Koto Tinggi to realize the Nagari Organik program through the socialization of organic fertilizer use in citrus farming to enhance soil's physical, chemical, and biological properties. The objective of this initiative is to boost Jesigo orange production in Gunung Omeh Sub-District, particularly in Nagari Koto Tinggi, thereby increasing the income of citrus farmers. The method employed involves socialization and practical training related to organic fertilizer production. The findings from this initiative reveal that the community in Nagari Koto Tinggi had not been using organic fertilizer, even though farmers can produce it themselves. Citrus farming land is also provided with organic fertilizer due to a lack of knowledge and information regarding organic fertilizer production. Following participation in this program, the participants' knowledge and skills concerning the creation, benefits, and advantages of organic fertilizer have significantly improved. The aim is for the community to start producing organic fertilizer that can be directly applied to farmland, reducing the reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This shift is expected to decrease dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, which have negative environmental and health impacts. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the people of Nagari Koto Tinggi will establish a cooperative dedicated to agriculture.

Abstract

Sanitary napkins are used by women during menstruation to absorb blood from the vagina. Sanitary napkins are divided into 2 types, namely disposable pads which are usually made of cotton and plastic, and cloth pads that can be reused (reusable pads). According to the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) sanitary napkins are one of the highest polluters in Indonesia. The amount of pad waste in one month can reach 1.4 billion. In addition, the discovery of chlorine which is harmful to health. The average woman uses more than 16,000 pads/tampons/pantyliners during her lifetime. That means, there are more than 45 million women's products are used and discarded every year. In Indonesia alone, it turns out that sanitary pads can reach 26 tons every day. The Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Andalas University realizes that the problem of waste, especially waste from pads, is very important for the balance of the environmental ecosystem. As an initial step to reduce sanitary napkin waste by providing education and socialization on the manufacture of cloth sanitary napkins. The service activity began with socialization with the school principal and teachers, after which it was given to all 29 Al-Ishlah High School students. Then a pre-test was conducted to find out the students' knowledge regarding eco-friendly sanitary napkins and menstruation where more than half of the students (89%) had good knowledge about reproductive health. After that, counseling was carried out regarding the impact of using disposable sanitary napkins on the environment and educating female students to use cloth sanitary napkins and explaining how to make cloth sanitary napkins. It is hoped that by carrying out this community service activity, the use of disposable pads/plastic pads can be reduced little by little, so that the amount of sanitary pad waste can be reduced and the environment will be better.

Abstract

Farmers commonly use inorganic fertilizers such as urea, rock phosphate, and NPK in crop cultivation. Continuous use of these inorganic fertilizers can degrade the quality of the growing medium and increase production costs. Inorganic fertilizers are also relatively expensive. One way to address this issue is by utilizing allelochemical compounds as Liquid Organic Fertilizers (LOF) for plant cultivation. Applying fertilizers in liquid form is more easily absorbed by plants because they are already dissolved and readily available. Babandotan liquid organic fertilizer contains essential nutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). These elements play a crucial role in stimulating vegetative growth, promoting root development, and strengthening the plant's overall health. The objective of this activity is to enhance the knowledge of the members of the Banda Langik Women Farmers Group about liquid organic fertilizer made from Babandotan weed, as well as to fulfill the Higher Education Tri Dharma for lecturers in the Agrotechnology Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. This community service activity was conducted at the Banda Langik Women Farmers Group, located at Jl. Ekora RT01/RW07 Sungai Bangek, Balai Gadang Village, Koto Tangah District, Padang City, in May-June 2022. The activities performed included preparation, socialization, closing, and reporting. Based on the results of the activity, several key points were identified, including that the community service program was conducted according to the needs of the Women Farmers Group, the group was satisfied and found the service beneficial for their development in the future, and the group members were committed to using LOF in their cultivation areas.

Abstract

Earthquake is a natural disaster that can occur suddenly and cause damage and loss of life. Therefore, it is important to have disaster preparedness to reduce the impact, especially on vulnerable groups such as the elderly. Therefore, a disaster education program is directed at increasing the elderly's perception of earthquake preparedness. This activity involved providing educational materials and simulations to 15 elderly people for one day. After the training, interviews were conducted to evaluate their perceptions regarding knowledge and attitudes towards disaster preparedness. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with 5 elderly people involved in the program. The results of the interviews revealed that the knowledge of the elderly about earthquakes still needs to be improved. Even so, most of them were able to demonstrate their ability to prepare disaster preparedness bags. However, there is potential to further enhance their knowledge and skills. This includes an understanding of the contents of a disaster preparedness bag, the actions to be taken during an earthquake, and their role in educating the community about disaster mitigation. It is hoped that this kind of program will have a long-term impact by increasing the understanding and awareness of the elderly on earthquake preparedness. Through an educational approach and their active involvement in simulation exercises, the elderly can become agents of change in improving disaster preparedness in the community.

Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) or cardiovascular disease is currently one of the main and first causes of death in developed and developing countries, including Indonesia. The prevalence of CHD in Indonesia, based on the estimated number of sexes, shows around 352,618 men and 442,674 women. Based on age, the highest prevalence is in the population aged 65-74 years (3.6%) which means that out of 100 people 3.6 suffer from CHD. Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) is very important and necessary in prioritizing promotive and preventive efforts, so that all aspects of health services can be carried out in a comprehensive manner. The activities carried out were in the form of health promotion using the counseling method (delivering prepared material) using posters and pocket books on what coronary heart disease is, its symptoms, causes, good food for sufferers and forms of first aid for coronary heart sufferers. Before delivering the material, a pre-test was carried out and after the material was given a post-test. The target of the activity is patients in the cardiac polyclinic of dr. Rasidin Padang. After counseling there was a significant increase in patient knowledge about the material presented from an average of 60 to 75, or an increase in knowledge of 20%. It is suggested that hospitals can put posters in the hospital waiting rooms around health service polyclinics so that health information can be seen by patients at the hospital.
