Abstract

Basic life skills serve as a fundamental pillar in shaping students' character to become healthy, independent, and empowered from an early age. This programme aimed to enhance students’ basic life skills through the implementation of the Healthy School Programme at SDN 2 Petuk Katimpun, Palangka Raya. Activities were conducted over a three-month period, from August to October 2024, encompassing the following stages: problem identification, socialisation, focus group discussions, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The interventions included the formation of peer support groups, education on balanced nutrition, life skills training, waste management based on the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle), and the organisation of the Healthy and Creative Children’s Festival. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' knowledge scores (from 65.1 to 73.6) and attitudes (from 55.2 to 70.4) regarding healthy behaviours. The establishment of peer groups as educators proved effective in supporting behavioural changes, particularly in promoting healthy packed meals and waste sorting. Educational activities such as the nutrition-themed snakes and ladders game and crafts made from plastic waste successfully increased students’ engagement in an enjoyable and participatory manner. In conclusion, an educational and participatory approach grounded in life skills development was found to be effective in supporting the implementation of a healthy school environment. Sustainability of the programme is recommended through cross-sectoral collaboration and the development of replicable educational media. This model may serve as a reference for similar initiatives in other schools, particularly in areas facing environmental and behavioural challenges.

Abstract

The community service program in Wonosari District, Malang Regency, focuses on training in the management of organic and inorganic waste. This activity is carried out in collaboration with the Malang Waste Bank. The primary objective of the training is to enhance public knowledge about waste management methods and raise awareness of the importance of a clean environment. Based on the identified issues, this program was designed using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The PAR approach emphasizes the empowerment of the community as the primary target of the program. Under the PAR scheme, the implementing team acts as facilitators in the activities. In this program, the team applied the ADDIE method (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The results of the training proved effective, with participants’ average scores increasing from 77.5 during the pre-test to 88.3 in the post-test, indicating a significant improvement in their understanding. Additionally, a satisfaction survey revealed high levels of satisfaction, particularly in the aspects of material completeness, ease of understanding, and interaction with the facilitators. The impact of this training is expected to encourage the community to be more active in managing waste in their own environments, including through the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) introduced during the program. This approach aims to foster a shift in mindset, encouraging the community to view waste as a potential resource rather than mere trash, thereby reducing its negative environmental impact. Overall, this program contributes significantly to building a sustainable culture of environmental care in Wonosari District.

Abstract

Bullying remains a common issue in elementary schools, posing serious threats to students' mental, social, and academic development. SDN 11 Kurao Pagang, located in Nanggalo District, Padang, is one such school facing this challenge. Its close proximity to a junior high school raises concerns, as interactions between the two student groups may expose younger students to inappropriate behaviors, including bullying. This community service program aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and awareness of bullying and its prevention. The intervention involved interactive educational sessions through lectures, discussions, pre- and post-tests, and the distribution of health promotion materials such as posters and pocket books. The content was delivered using visually engaging PowerPoint slides tailored to the comprehension level of elementary students. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ understanding of bullying, with the average test score rising from 71.25 (pre-test) to 85.42 (post-test). These findings indicate that the program was effective in increasing students' knowledge about the definition, types, impacts, and prevention of bullying. In addition, the activity contributed to fostering a more positive and safer school environment. Regular implementation of similar programs is recommended to reinforce these outcomes and ensure the long-term sustainability of their positive impact.

Abstract

Community-based tourism development offers a sustainable approach to social and economic transformation, particularly in rural areas rich in cultural and historical potential. However, many communities, such as Jorong Kuok III Koto in Nagari Matua Mudiak, face challenges such as limited awareness of local potential and insufficient technical skills to manage and utilize these resources. Addressing this issue, the Community Service Program (PKM) titled "Assisting Nagari Development" aimed to empower the local community through the integration of cultural heritage preservation and digital technology. This program focused on enhancing the community’s capacity to document local history, manage tourism organizations, and utilize digital platforms for promotion. The program was conducted in four stages: identification of local potential through interviews with elderly residents, training in oral history documentation and digital tools, the establishment of a community tourism group (Pokdarwis), and dissemination activities, including a tourism pilot project and cultural festival. Results revealed increased community awareness of the socio-economic value of cultural heritage, enhanced digital skills among youth, and the successful formation of Pokdarwis to manage local tourism initiatives. Challenges included limited time and resources of community members and administrative delays, which were mitigated through flexible planning and remote training. This program demonstrated the transformative potential of participatory approaches in fostering community-led tourism development. It provided a replicable model for integrating cultural preservation and technology to empower rural communities and promote sustainable tourism. Future efforts will focus on scaling up these initiatives for broader impact.

Abstract

In Nagari Sako Pasia Talang, Sungai Pagu District, South Solok Regency, the scarcity of accessible animal protein sources coupled with limited employment opportunities poses a considerable socio-economic challenge. This programme was designed to enhance household incomes and fortify food security through the structured development of broiler poultry farming. The implementation strategy encompassed community outreach via structured training sessions and hands-on workshops, alongside expert consultations facilitated by academics from Andalas University. An integrated educational and participatory approach was employed, incorporating technical training in broiler husbandry, the construction of standardized poultry housing, feed formulation utilizing locally available ingredients, livestock health management, and farm business financial analysis. Tangible support was also provided in the form of poultry housing units, day-old chicks (DOC), feed supplies, and essential farming equipment. The intervention yielded marked improvements in both the knowledge base and practical skills of participating community members, enabling the adoption of efficient, locally adaptive broiler farming techniques. A pilot, collectively managed poultry enterprise was successfully established, producing 970 market-ready broilers from an initial stock of 1,020 DOC, while achieving a competitive feed conversion ratio (FCR). Financial analysis revealed a potential net profit of IDR 9,131,160 per 35-day production cycle, underscoring the venture’s economic viability. Beyond income generation, the programme broadened community access to affordable and nutritious animal protein, and catalyzed the emergence of new, livestock-based entrepreneurial models. With its demonstrable success, the initiative holds significant potential for replication as a sustainable, village-centered strategy for economic resilience and food security.
