Abstract

Since independence Indonesia’s military has played an active role in defending the territorial integrity of Indonesia. For example, the military has been used to put down rebellions in various regions, such as Darul Islam in West Java in 1948, the Acehnese rebellion that was led by Daud Beurueh in 1950, Pemerintah Revolusioner Republik Indonesia (PRRI), the Revolutionary Government of the Indonesian Republic) in West Sumatra in 1958, and Piagam Perjuangan Semesta Alam (Permesta) Charter of Universal Struggle in North Sulawesi in 1958. Disagreements with central government policies were the cause of these rebellions since they were intended to change the central government, not to achieve separatism. In addition, in 1961 a military operation was used to support the claim of Indonesia to West Irian (now Papua). By carrying out a military operation and negotiating with those giving support from the United States, in 1969 Indonesia succeeded in its goal of claiming Papua as a part of Indonesia. The success in pulling Papua into Indonesia’s territory did not directly stop the military operation there because the military had to maintain order in the region to frustrate the Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM), Free Papuan Organisation, separatist movement that began in 1964 and continues to the present day

Abstract

This article analyses ex-PKI political prisoners' motive to produce their memory about mass violence and detention in 1965/66. They joined the YPKP (Yayasan Penelitian Korban Pembunuhan/Institute for Research on the victims 1965/65). In this organization, they expect justice for what they experienced in 1965. This article uses qualitative research. We acquire the data by interview and literature study. There are six interviewers –five of them are ex-PKI political prisoners, and one is the chairman of the YPKP branch in West Sumatra. Besides the interview, we also use relevant books, articles, newspapers, archives, and web pages. We employ the social memory approach to analyse this subject. The ex-PKI political prisoners' memory of violence had shaped the same vision between them to produce the memories of what they have experienced during 1965/66. Therefore, the old ex-political prisoners expected to straighten history to reconcile the government and the victims. They attempt to counter the state narration that mentions they had a part in the 30 September 1965 Movement to hold the coup and prove that the state victimized them for decades. Along with the straightened history, there are two primary purposes in this reconciliation they are fighting for; 1) Confession of the state that human rights violations had taken place; 2) Recovery and rehabilitation for those who had become the victim of human rights violations.

Abstract

Trans Padang is an integrated highway bus system in Padang City that has operated since January 2014. Buses run every day from 06.00 WIB to 19.00 WIB. No literature has been cited. Trans Padang Corridor VI Bus serves the corridor Andalas University to the city center, and the route distance is ±13. 14 km. In this research, a study was carried out to determine whether the operations of the Trans Padang Corridor VI Bus were following the Decree of the Director General of Land Transportation No. SK.687/AJ.206/DRJD/2002. Six parameters were studied: load factor, headway, waiting time, travel time, stopping time at bus stops, bus speed, and bus fleets. Two methods were used to collect data: a dynamic and static survey. dynamic survey was carried out to record the departure and arrival times of buses at each bus stop, the number of passengers getting on and off, the distance traveled by the bus, the bus route, the bus stop, the bus travel time, and the bus stopping time. static survey is carried out to record the arrival and departure times of buses at certain stops. The study results show that only the waiting time parameters follow the technical instructions; the existing waiting time is 6.03, and in the technical instructions, the waiting time is set at 5-10 minutes.

Abstract

Landslide movement is the activity of a balance disturbance process that causes the movement of masses of soil and/or rock from higher to lower areas. The cause of landslides is that the driving force on the slope is greater than the resisting force. Several factors cause landslides such as rainfall, steep slopes, soil density, rock type, land use and vibration. Sawahlunto City is one of 19 cities/regencies in West Sumatra Province that has a high level of vulnerability to landslides. Areas prone to landslides can be identified by utilizing remote sensing data and geographic information systems. This service is carried out by making maps of areas prone to landslides using parameters that cause landslides, including rainfall, soil type, height, slope and land use. These parameters will be processed and analyzed with the help of the ArcToolbox method, where ArcToolbox can be used to detect landslide areas in Kubang Tangah Village. The analysis process is carried out by using the spatial analysis tools feature found in ArcGIS software. Community service produces a slope map that can illustrate the vulnerability of landslides. Obtain results in the form of a landslide vulnerability level map which has 4 vulnerability classes, including non-prone vulnerability class, low vulnerability class, medium vulnerability class, and high vulnerability class.

Abstract

The bridge is one of the most important means of transportation for humans. The bridge also serves as a link between one area and another. Seeing the importance of the function of a bridge, the construction of a bridge must meet various existing standards. One of the requirements that must be met in making a bridge is the resilience of the bridge in accept the load of both humans and vehicles that cross the bridge and the static equilibrium conditions on the bridge. The construction of a Truss bridge is usually carried out at the place where the bridge will stand. But now the construction of the bridge can be done outside that location, to then be shifted to the actual location. And, that's not only for short bridges, but also for long bridges. But sometimes a condition does not allow conventional bridge construction, while on the other hand the construction of the bridge is something very important. For that we need an innovation, an alternative method so that the construction of the Truss bridge can be carried out. The 100 meter span Australian Truss bridge was assembled above the maintenance bridge at the Batang Arau flood control structure and then shifted downstream to the new bridge location which is 10 meters away. Before the shifting was carried out, rails were prepared as the shifting path and two bridgeheads as the placement of the Truss bridge on the left and right of the Batang Arau river. Currently the Ujung Tanah II Truss bridge has been functioning for 30 years with good maintenance.

Abstract

Mount Marapi is an active volcano located in West Sumatra. The eruptions of Mount Merapi have a significant impact on the social and economic conditions of the surrounding communities. This study aims to identify and map the post-disaster issues in the nagari affected by the eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra Province to formulate appropriate mitigation measures. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and photographic documentation. The results of the study show that infrastructure damage, including roads and bridges, hinders mobility and aid distribution, while the agricultural and livestock sectors suffer substantial losses. The social impacts include loss of housing and psychological trauma, while the economic impacts are evident in the significant losses faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Health concerns, such as increased respiratory and skin diseases, as well as sanitation issues, are also major concerns. Mitigation efforts undertaken include infrastructure repairs, construction of embankments, public education on disaster preparedness, and psychological support for disaster victims. This study highlights the importance of comprehensive and sustainable mitigation strategies to reduce the impact of disasters and ensure the well-being of communities in disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

Increasing community capacity in dealing with natural disasters is a crucial step to reduce the risks and impacts caused by disasters. Nagari Andaleh, which is located in a disaster-prone area, especially in the West Sumatra region, often faces the threat of natural disasters that have the potential to damage social, economic and environmental life. This study aims to identify and develop strategies to increase the capacity of the Nagari Andaleh community in facing the flash floods disasters. With the holding of KKN-MBKM Disaster activities in Nagari Andaleh hosted by Andalas University, students and lecturers conducted socialization and in-depth surveys to the community, found an increase in community knowledge and awareness of disaster risks, as well as an increase in the ability to evacuate independently. Therefore, it is important to increase community capacity in order to reduce vulnerability and increase community resilience in the face of disasters that occur.
