Focus and Scope WASKITA: Jurnal Pendidikan Nilai dan Pembangunan Karakter is published by the Center of Character Building Subject, Brawijaya University. WASKITA has been published offline since July 2017 and online since April 2019. In the next publication, this journal will be published twice a year on April and on October. WASKITA accepts research and conceptual papers related to values education and character building. Those values are mores, philosophical, religious, social, linguistic and literature, civil and nationalistic values. This journal also accepts literature review, book review, in depth interview of influential figure or seminar note related to values education and character building.

Abstract

This paper discusses about the political meaning over Pancasila which developed in the era of post-reformation. Political meaning addresses two fundamental aspects, namely the legitimacy of power and the legitimacy of values for the political language used by politicians and society. Political meaning is formed by social and reality of politic that develops according to the context of society. The dynamics of social and political life that took place in post-reformation in Indonesia, are interesting to observe and study in the aspects of phenomenology, in particularly, the meaning of the Pancasila ideology. Pancasila, as the object of in this study, has the various existing literature and give the various understandings and interpretations of Pancasila carried out by academics. Pancasila in the aspect of the scope of language is categorized as a variety of political languages. The paper analyzed  by phenomenological analysis method. The results of this study indicate that the Political meaning about Pancasila in the post-reform era was dominated by politicians who legitimized the meaning of Pancasila in various forms of meaning. The politicization process of Pancasila is included in the political, social, religious and cultural spheres.

Abstract

This research is based on the researcher concerned as a lecture of Bahasa Indonesia in University of Brawijaya (UB). The researcher found out that student’ pride when speaking Bahasa Indonesia is low. This condition will become concern the position of Bahasa Indonesia itself since language attitude is one of the critical factors of language learning. Therefore, this research aimed to describe (a) Students’ language attitude towards Bahasa Indonesia and (b) Students’ language attitude in strengthen Indonesian language skill as an effort toward international language.  This research using descriptive method with quantitative approach. The research population was students of UB  academic year 2017. The sample carried out with random sampling technique to 60 students from the field of exact sciences and social. The result showed that UB students’ language attitude towards Bahasa Indonesia is still low. Not all students have a positive attitude towards Bahasa Indonesia. The awareness that language is part of the identity needs to be improved to create positive attitude that refers to language appeal and pride of a language speaker.

Abstract

Human civilization progress is linked to the development of science. The era of revolutionary industry 4.0 has a passion to encourage people to better understand the higher realms of humanity from the ecosystem itself, but in reality condition, human relationships and nature as separate from each other, when they live in one unity. On the other hand, a religion that turns into a worldview also does not give the spirit of the unity of man and nature. This issue can be applied by the Javanese culture by offering a philosophy of the memayu hayuning bawana philosophy that seeks to reunite the unity between man and nature.

One effort to build awareness and understanding of building the value of humility and tolerance values always uphold in formed into a common moralfor ce that becomes extraordinary energy to realize the progress of the nation. The goal is to shape the personality of the child, in order to be a good human being, a good citizen, and a good citizen. In implicating one’s humble value must be colored with the value of truth and reject the trait of the pervert in the sense of abandoning his pride. The inferior individual realizes that whatever he has. Then inculcate each individual life tolerance values diversity always respect the identity, And the uniqueness of each religion, neither discriminating nor eliminating it, Either through religious conversion or confusion of reli- gious rituals that are expected to be a responsible and democratic citizen.

Abstract

AbstractConsumtivism has become the new ideology. It gives the meaning of life through material consumption as the way. In fact, this ideology made out social rationality and affected for method of thinking or social action must be measured by material calculation.This paper discusses to dismantle the meaning of consumptivism in society, which Herbert Marcuse called as one dimensional men. It was analyzed by Herbert Marcuse's critical theory of one dimensional men as far as to correct the impact of false needs and voluntary slavery in the consumptivism behavior of society. The goal is to restore the critical thinking of society in observing consumptive actions, who try to fullfil their priority of necessity. Cause, in fact, consumtive behaviour is a desire deliberately created by some interest group, that is the big investors, in order to get maximum profit.

Abstract

Indonesia is a nation state which involves a series of various ethnic, reli- gious, racial, class, cultural and political views. It is a social capital for the magnitude of a nation. But unfortunately, lately this social capital with the increasing of intolerant attitudes from most people that have an impact on the increasing of social conflicts based on racial intolerance in many regions also penetrated educational environment should be free from the problems of racism and politics. To response, the internalization of the Pancasila values is impSortant to do back in order to build the na- tion’s character. 45 values of Pancasila need to be revived and contextu- alisation with the present of situation as well as universal human rights values. On the other hand, the attitude and actions of tolerance for diver- sity of the Indonesian nation today is not enough to just set in the written rules and to enforced, but must be internalized as the basis for rebuilding the nation’s character. The values of universal human rights which in- cluded a tribute to human dignity, equality, non-discrimination, inclu- sion and tolerance in this case can strengthen revitalization nationalities to movement directed at strengthening the resilience of communities and “bhineka” nations to efforts nihilisasi from outsiders on positive cultural values of Indonesia nation. The internalisation of human rights values can be done with the civilizing in which the efforts of recognition and understanding, then learning, implementation, habituation, accultura- tion and imitation that conducted together by all elements of society in the life of the nation. The internalizing process of human rights values can also be done through the development of alternative methods is one of them forming a role model that will give more results and significant impact. That efforts are very strategic to start with education because ed- ucation is a vehicle for character development through cognitive, affective and psychomotor.

Abstract

Indonesia current character education is still considered as an ineffective system for building a nation’s character. The developed nations compete and prepare for facing globalization that made cultures and civilization all over the world become closer. Therefore Indonesia has to strengthen its nation resilience by focusing on character education which is, of course, not ignoring another aspect of education.The character education, in modern context, is something important to overcome Indonesian moral crisis. The moral crisis is marked by the increase number offr ee sex, cor- ruption, human rape, and homicides, including pornography and drug abuse, which until now is still cannot be completely resolved by official holders ofpolicies in this country. Therefore, It is expected that all ele- ments ofsociety  participate to improve the moral character of the nation. An inderpendent nation should construct a well-established strategy to embed code to all components of it. A good character is a pearl for a country that can be derived from the older generation to the younger, of the rulers and leaders to the people, from the teachers to the students. If the figures of a country cannot be a role modelfor  the people, so expecta- tion of improvement towards the cravig character wouldjust  be an empty hope, and it will not change anything in the country. As an effort to improve the character, the character of the nation’s children is a concern.

Abstract

Pancasila as one of the pillars of support in the life of the nation and state has concepts, principles and values which are the crystallization of the system of various local regions of the Indonesian nation, giving color to each regional system that is manifested nationally and makes it Unity in Diversity. This article examines local wisdom in particular, Java towards the values of Pancasila as a unifying nation. Research approach with library studies and historical analysis. The five precepts in Pancasila show fundamental ideas about humans and their entire reality in life along with differences in ethnicity, race, religion, culture and unity complementing one another wrapped in a framework of diversity in mutual cooperation in accordance with Javanese cultural concepts, which are believed to be true by the Indonesian people and sourced from the character, Indonesian culture and underlying the establishment of the State of Indonesia. In short, the formulation of the Pancasila is a formula obtained from the "sari-sari" of the nation's thousands of cultures.

Abstract

The press law is legal products that are responsive. It can be seen from the process of formation a press law with participatory manner. The material of press law also has been accomplished with the needs and desires of the people because it gives protection and guarantee against press freedom. In spite of the press law are responsive, but it was still not enforced effectively because it still occurs the practice of violence against practitioners of the press and press freedom abuse. This indicates that the guarantee and protection of press freedom through a press law is still not enough. In this context, the consolidation of democracy requires the existence of an increased public commitment fundamentally to use democratic procedures to organize public spaces that appear in the process of state. Therefore, it takes awareness and commitment together so press freedom can be realized. The Press law needs to be enforced consistently by all elements. The State should provide protection for practitioners by cracking down firmly the perpetrators of violence against practitionersof the press. In addition, the guarantee and protection of press freedom should be balanced with the professionalism of the practitioners of the press, by complying the code ethics of the profession and improve the ability of the press and journalism through education and training because press freedom without the limitations of law and ethics, produce an excessive press freedom.

Abstract

One of the primary values inherent in the personality of the nation (founding father) in addition to the breadth of insight is the strong pas- sion and love for the homeland nationality. Philosophy of life that stands on the foundation of nationalism and patriotism that is then color every movement, behavior as well as the epic struggle deeds they do, for the grounding the ideals of independence. Along with that, especially in the context of the independence of the nation, teaching in the form of ideas and ideals that appear to be important life values for the next generation. Besides an attempt to take the essence of the teaching given, also related to the effort to continue to foster national values and love of the homeland as the ethical foundation in terms of bringing the nation to the gates of progress. One in a series of well-known national leader is Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (Hamka); a statesman who thinks that nation- alism and patriotism as part of the faith (religion). Through a sociolog- ical theory of knowledge Mannheim has found that important teaching presented Hamka in relation to the life of the nation that is their re- sponsibility that must be realized that every citizen. Responsibilities shall include nationality, homeland, all of which according to Hamka in line with the main principles of Islam, namely amar ma’ruf nahi munkar. Such a principle is not limited to maintaining dignity according to the nation. Furthermore, a sense of nationalism and love for the homeland is the main asset that can make a race higher than other nations.
