Abstract

This study investigates English Education students’ experiences in using Zoom-based learning to enhance English speaking skills in an EFL classroom context. A qualitative descriptive design was employed with nine undergraduate students from the English Education Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Tangerang, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted via Zoom in mixed Indonesian–English to support comfortable expression. All interviews were recorded using Zoom’s built-in recording feature, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed through thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns. The findings indicate that Zoom facilitates speaking practice by increasing opportunities for structured interaction, particularly through breakout rooms and guided discussions, and by enabling flexible participation via audio, video, and chat. Students also valued screen sharing for organizing ideas and sustaining talk during tasks. Nevertheless, participants reported constraints that hindered performance, including unstable internet connection, audio delay, reduced spontaneity due to limited non-verbal cues, and anxiety when speaking on camera or being recorded. Overall, Zoom-based learning can contribute to speaking development when instructors design interactive, turn-rich tasks, manage turn-taking clearly, and provide supportive, focused feedback. Creating a psychologically safe climate and preparing technical contingencies are recommended to reduce anxiety and maintain engagement in online speaking classes in this participant cohort.

Abstract

The socio-economic changes occurring in the agricultural sector have a significant impact on the welfare of farmers. These changes include shifts in production patterns, fluctuations in agricultural prices, rising production costs, and changes in the social structure of rural communities. This situation requires farmers to adapt in order to sustain their livelihoods and improve their family's welfare. This study aims to analyze socio-economic changes and their impact on farmers' welfare. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that socio-economic changes have a dual impact on farmers' welfare. On one hand, innovations and modernization in agriculture have the potential to increase productivity, but on the other hand, limited access to capital, technology, and markets prevents farmers' welfare from improving optimally. Therefore, active involvement of the government and relevant institutions is needed to support farmers' empowerment through favorable policies, strengthening farmers' institutions, and increasing access to production resources to achieve sustainable farmers' welfare.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a primary strategy for local governments to improve the quality of public services, particularly through the implementation of the Smart City program. However, the success of this policy is not solely determined by technology adoption, but also by how the digital transformation policy is implemented in governance practices. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the digital transformation policy in improving the quality of public services in the Makassar City Government through the Smart City program. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results show that the implementation of the Smart City policy in Makassar City has encouraged increased efficiency and accessibility of public services, but has not yet fully generated optimal public value. The main challenges lie in the limited capacity of human resources of the apparatus, fragmented coordination between regional agencies, and the digital literacy gap in the community. This study confirms that digital transformation in public services is an institutional process that requires policy integration, digital leadership, and an orientation towards public value. Theoretically, this study contributes to the enrichment of public policy implementation studies by integrating the perspectives of e-government, public value, and good governance in the context of Smart City. Practically, the findings of this study provide strategic recommendations for local governments in designing and evaluating more inclusive, accountable, and sustainable digital transformation policies.

Abstract

Instilling religious character values through the habituation of Dhuha prayer activities in children aged 5-6 years at Permata Hati Kindergarten, Islamic Preschool, Mataram. Dhuha prayer was chosen as a medium because it is believed to develop spiritual values, discipline, responsibility, and obedience in early childhood. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a field research type. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used an interactive model that includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Data validity was assessed through diligent observation, source triangulation, technical triangulation, and the adequacy of references. The results of the study indicate that: (1) the instillation of religious character values is carried out through three main strategies, namely: (a) religious education is not only delivered formally but through habituation; (b) providing opportunities for students to express themselves through demonstrations and exercises; (c) creating a religious situation by explaining commands and prohibitions as well as rewards and punishments in a simple manner. (2) The religious character of children that is formed includes: believing in and obeying God, discipline, patience, self-confidence and independence, and honesty, which is reflected in daily behavior. (3) Supporting factors include parental support and adequate facilities, while inhibiting factors are schedule conflicts with extracurricular activities. outing class, and meetings that use the hall.

Abstract

As a faith-based educational institution, the pesantren initially emerged as a center for the cultivation of religious values and the dissemination of Islam. Because its primary character is that of an Islamic educational institution, the pesantren has, over time, systematically developed a distinctive Islamic tradition. One enduring hallmark of this tradition is the continued practice of reading and teaching kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts). Sustained for generations, the study of kitab kuning has become a substantive and authoritative reference within pesantren communities. Moreover, the pesantren’s emphasis on the continuity of sanad, which traces chains of transmission back to the Prophet and earlier scholars, positions kitab kuning not merely as instructional materials but also as a medium for transmitting scholarly authority grounded in recognized lineages of knowledge. However, when classical texts are treated as normative references, their discourse may operate as an epistemic regime that legitimizes particular moral orders and shapes socio-religious identities within educational practice. This article examines how Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani’s ‘Uqūd al-Lujayn fī Bayān Ḥuqūq al-Zawjayn constructs meanings about women and how these meanings are reproduced as pedagogical “truths” in Islamic education in pesantren. Methodologically, this study employs a library research design by integrating: (1) Michel Foucault’s power/knowledge framework to explain regimes of truth and disciplinary normalization; (2) Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis to map textual strategies and their articulation with discursive and social practices; and (3) Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy to formulate a dialogical reconstruction of learning. The primary data are drawn from the Indonesian translation, Syarh ‘Uqūd al-Lujayn (Etika Berumah Tangga), including its internal citations (Qur’anic verses, hadith reports, and moral narratives). Secondary data consist of recent scholarly studies on gender discourse in pesantren, kitab kuning scholarship, and reputable theoretical works in hermeneutics and philosophy of education. Findings based on the primary text indicate that ‘Uqūd al-Lujayn frames women predominantly within a relational and hierarchical ontology centered on husband and wife relations, elevates obedience and domestic piety as moral ideals, and strengthens its claims through the situated citation of scriptural evidences and appeals to scholarly authority. This argumentative structure generates asymmetric moral standards that may function as a hidden curriculum in pesantren learning. The article contributes to Islamic educational philosophy by offering an epistemological critique of classical-text authority and proposing a pedagogical reconstruction through critical and dialogical reading, contextual hermeneutics, and gender-just interpretive principles.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and causal factors of phonological interference in the pronunciation of the Latin alphabet and to examine their impact on the dictation performance of Indonesian as a Foreign Language (BIPA) learners from non-Latin script backgrounds. The data consist of pronunciation errors and dictation writing errors, specifically problematic phonemic and vowel contrasts. The results show phonological interference in the form of voiced–voiceless consonant substitutions (b–p, g–k, t–d, s–z), affricate confusion (c–j), liquid consonant interchange (r–l), reduction of mid–high vowel contrasts (e–i), and reduction of back vowel contrasts (o–u). This interference is apparent simultaneously in spoken production and in the written form of dictation, indicating a disruption in phonemic perception rather than merely in articulation. The primary causes of this interference lie in the differences between the phonological systems of the learners’ native languages (Thai and Khmer) and Indonesian; the differences in script systems (non-Latin versus Latin); and the phonological transfer from English as an intermediary language and source of Latin letter pronunciation patterns. The proposed pedagogical implication is the need to reinforce the stage of script familiarization as a process of phonological reconstruction through minimal pair exercises, phonemic perception training, articulatory exercises, and the regular use of diagnostic dictation exercises.

Abstract

The development of higher education in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era requires students to have higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). However, in practice, HOTS development still faces various challenges in the university environment. Several studies show that students still tend to memorize economic concepts without being able to connect them to real phenomena. Based on this context, this study aims to analyze in-depth lecturers' strategies in developing higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) through a deep learning approach in Macroeconomic Theory courses. This study applies a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews with lecturers and students. Data analysis refers to the Miles and Huberman model which includes the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing supported by the use of Nvivo software. The results of the study show that lecturers apply learning strategies based on macroeconomic case study analysis, policy evaluation, and the creation of academic solutions that encourage students' HOTS. This strategy is combined with deep learning that includes meaningful learning, mindful learning, and joyful learning, thereby increasing cognitive engagement, reflective awareness, and student learning motivation. The conclusion of this study states that the strategy used by Macroeconomic Theory lecturers through a deep learning approach is effective in developing students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), particularly in analyzing, evaluating, and creating. However, its implementation still faces obstacles such as student readiness, lecturers' pedagogical skills, and limited learning resources and time allocation.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the perceptions of Economic Education students at Muhammadiyah University of Sampit regarding the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in the learning process. The integration of AI in higher education has become a global phenomenon that is transforming learning paradigms; however, understanding of how students evaluate and interpret this technology remains limited, particularly within the context of Economic Education in Indonesia. This study involved 15 students selected through purposive sampling and employed a descriptive qualitative approach grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically using NVivo 12 Pro.The findings reveal that students perceive AI as enhancing learning effectiveness, being easy to use, and fostering academic motivation and independence. Four major themes emerged: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude toward using, and behavioral intention to use. The acceptance of AI was found to encompass not only technological dimensions but also social-emotional aspects. This study reinforces the relevance of TAM within the Indonesian higher education context and provides implications for developing ethical, creative, and adaptive technology-based learning policies aligned with students’ needs in the digital era.
