Abstract

This study investigates English Education students’ experiences in using Zoom-based learning to enhance English speaking skills in an EFL classroom context. A qualitative descriptive design was employed with nine undergraduate students from the English Education Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Tangerang, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted via Zoom in mixed Indonesian–English to support comfortable expression. All interviews were recorded using Zoom’s built-in recording feature, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed through thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns. The findings indicate that Zoom facilitates speaking practice by increasing opportunities for structured interaction, particularly through breakout rooms and guided discussions, and by enabling flexible participation via audio, video, and chat. Students also valued screen sharing for organizing ideas and sustaining talk during tasks. Nevertheless, participants reported constraints that hindered performance, including unstable internet connection, audio delay, reduced spontaneity due to limited non-verbal cues, and anxiety when speaking on camera or being recorded. Overall, Zoom-based learning can contribute to speaking development when instructors design interactive, turn-rich tasks, manage turn-taking clearly, and provide supportive, focused feedback. Creating a psychologically safe climate and preparing technical contingencies are recommended to reduce anxiety and maintain engagement in online speaking classes in this participant cohort.

Abstract

The socio-economic changes occurring in the agricultural sector have a significant impact on the welfare of farmers. These changes include shifts in production patterns, fluctuations in agricultural prices, rising production costs, and changes in the social structure of rural communities. This situation requires farmers to adapt in order to sustain their livelihoods and improve their family's welfare. This study aims to analyze socio-economic changes and their impact on farmers' welfare. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that socio-economic changes have a dual impact on farmers' welfare. On one hand, innovations and modernization in agriculture have the potential to increase productivity, but on the other hand, limited access to capital, technology, and markets prevents farmers' welfare from improving optimally. Therefore, active involvement of the government and relevant institutions is needed to support farmers' empowerment through favorable policies, strengthening farmers' institutions, and increasing access to production resources to achieve sustainable farmers' welfare.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a primary strategy for local governments to improve the quality of public services, particularly through the implementation of the Smart City program. However, the success of this policy is not solely determined by technology adoption, but also by how the digital transformation policy is implemented in governance practices. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the digital transformation policy in improving the quality of public services in the Makassar City Government through the Smart City program. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results show that the implementation of the Smart City policy in Makassar City has encouraged increased efficiency and accessibility of public services, but has not yet fully generated optimal public value. The main challenges lie in the limited capacity of human resources of the apparatus, fragmented coordination between regional agencies, and the digital literacy gap in the community. This study confirms that digital transformation in public services is an institutional process that requires policy integration, digital leadership, and an orientation towards public value. Theoretically, this study contributes to the enrichment of public policy implementation studies by integrating the perspectives of e-government, public value, and good governance in the context of Smart City. Practically, the findings of this study provide strategic recommendations for local governments in designing and evaluating more inclusive, accountable, and sustainable digital transformation policies.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the leadership roles of the head of the institution in improving the quality of education at LKP Mr Einstein. The research focuses on four dimensions of educational leadership, namely the roles of educator, administrator, supervisor, and leader, as well as the strategic efforts undertaken by the institutional head to strengthen teacher professionalism, learning facilities, and student achievement. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by data validity checks through source and methodological triangulation. The findings indicate that the institutional head performs the leadership roles in an integrated and consistent manner. As an educator, the institutional head guides and facilitates teachers’ professional development through training and mentoring activities. As an administrator, the institutional head designs program plans, manages resources, and ensures the availability of a conducive learning environment. As a supervisor, the institutional head monitors the teaching process, provides constructive feedback, and addresses instructional challenges faced by teachers. As a leader, the institutional head formulates educational visions, fosters a positive organizational culture, and motivates teachers and staff through effective collaboration and communication. Furthermore, the institutional head implements strategic efforts such as enhancing teacher professionalism, improving learning facilities, and organizing student development programs including public speaking, confidence shows, and outing class activitiesIn conclusion, the effectiveness of the institutional head’s leadership significantly contributes to the improvement of educational quality at LKP Mr Einstein, particularly in the areas of instructional processes, teacher performance, and student outcomes. These findings reinforce the importance of transformational and instructional leadership within the context of non-formal education.
