Abstract

Mastery of English for Nursing has become an important trend in nursing education in response to the increasing demand for competitive nursing professionals in the era of globalization. One essential basic competence is the use of WH questions in nursing communication to obtain patient data and information. This study employed a qualitative method using interviews, observation, and literature review. Interviews were conducted with 30 third-year nursing students of the University of Timor who had completed clinical practice in hospitals and community health centers. The results indicate that the appropriate use of WH questions (what, who, when, where, why, and how) helps nurses establish effective communication, obtain accurate information regarding patients’ conditions and medical histories, and support decision-making in nursing care. In conclusion, mastery of WH questions is a crucial component of English for Nursing learning in preparing professional and competitive nursing personnel.

Abstract

This study explores the reading comprehension difficulty encountered by first-semester students in the Statistics Department and Computer Systems Engineering Department at Universitas AKPRIND Indonesia. A descriptive quantitative design was employed, involving 25 students. Data were obtained using a 50-item reading comprehension test and a structured questionnaire. The reading comprehension test covers six reading subskills: identification of the main idea, recognition of references, inferencing, vocabulary knowledge, locating specific information, and understanding detailed information. The findings show that students from both departments still face significant difficulty in comprehending reading texts, as reflected in their low-test performance. Understanding vocabulary was the most difficult aspect (71.08%), followed by determining the main idea (62.67%), making inferences (52.8%), finding detailed information (44%), finding specific information (35.5%), and identifying references (23.33%). The study also revealed that students’ reading comprehension difficulties were influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors included limited vocabulary, weak grammatical competence, low reading strategies, and poor concentration. External factors included limited family support and insufficient English learning resources. The study recommends that instructional efforts should focus on systematic vocabulary development, explicit grammar instruction, effective reading strategies, and increased access to English reading materials to improve students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

Th This study aims to examine the effect of Wordwall-based educational game learning on the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students. The background of this research is grounded in the low level of students’ interest and achievement in mathematics, which is largely attributed to the use of conventional teaching methods that tend to be less engaging. Through an educational game-based learning approach, students are expected to become more active, motivated, and better able to understand mathematical concepts, particularly topics that are commonly perceived as difficult. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a post-test only control group design. The sample consisted of two classes: an experimental class that implemented Wordwall-based educational game media in the learning process, and a control class that applied conventional instructional methods. The research instrument was a mathematics achievement test administered after the completion of the learning activities. The results indicated that the mean score of mathematics learning outcomes in the experimental class was 82.05, while the control class obtained a mean score of 71.67, which was rounded to 72. Based on the t-test analysis, the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a highly significant difference between the two groups. Therefore, it can be concluded that educational game-based learning has a positive and significant effect on improving the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping students’ character, faith, and intellectual development. Along with the rapid changes brought by globalization, technological advancement, and social transformation, Islamic education faces new challenges that require continuous adaptation. This article aims to examine the dynamics of contemporary Islamic education by focusing on the relationship between educational traditions, modernization processes, and innovative learning approaches. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research, drawing data from national journals, academic books, and other relevant scholarly sources. The findings indicate that the modernization of Islamic education is an adaptive process that remains rooted in Islamic values rather than a form of westernization. Furthermore, innovative learning approaches such as project-based learning, problem-based learning, and the use of digital media can enhance the quality of Islamic education when they are oriented toward strengthening the internalization of Islamic values. This study is expected to provide a conceptual contribution to the development of relevant and sustainable Islamic education in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of metacognitive strategies in English language learning among students of the Management Study Program at Mandalika University of Education. Metacognitive strategies are considered important because they help students manage their thinking processes, organize learning strategies, and reflect on learning outcomes. This study uses a mixed methods approach with quantitative and qualitative descriptive approaches. A total of 35 active students were selected as respondents through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a metacognitive strategy questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive analysis results show that the overall level of metacognitive strategy application among students is in the high category with an average score of 3.98. The planning dimension ranked highest with an average score of 4.18, followed by the monitoring dimension with a score of 3.92, and the evaluating dimension with a score of 3.85. Qualitative findings supported these results by showing that most students had good learning awareness, although the aspects of reflection and self-evaluation were not carried out consistently. The results of this study confirm that the application of metacognitive strategies plays an important role in shaping independent and reflective learners, as well as forming the basis for the development of a more effective English learning model for non-language students in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the role of character education in developing students' social-emotional competencies at the elementary and secondary school levels. In an increasingly complex educational context where cognitive abilities alone are insufficient to prepare students for social challenges, character education becomes increasingly relevant. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers, students, and parents, as well as direct observation of the implementation of character education programs in schools. The results indicate that character education integrated into the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and school culture has successfully improved students' social skills such as empathy, cooperation, and self-control. Programs involving parents and the community also strengthen the application of character values in students' daily lives. Furthermore, challenges in implementing character education, such as a lack of teacher understanding and limited resources, were also identified as factors that need attention. This study confirms that character education plays a role in shaping individuals who excel not only academically but also possess strong character and good social skills. Therefore, this study recommends the need to strengthen character education programs in schools and closer collaboration between schools, parents, and the community to create a holistic and sustainable learning environment.
