Abstract

Abstract

Stimulant is an agent that stimulates the central nervous system thereby increasing physical and mental abilities and minimizing fatigue. The use of synthetic caffeine stimulants of 10 mg / kg BW is known to have side effects of increasing total cholesterol and increasing LDL, therefore alternative stimulants from natural ingredients are needed. Natural materials that have been studied contain flavonoids and phenolic as a stimulant compound is a single garlic bulbs. The purpose of this study was to determine the stimulant effect of a single garlic bulbs ethanolic extract on mice from the difference in swimming time. The research experimental used Pre test and Post test control design. Sample of this research used mice which were divided into 6 groups. Group 1 pretest dose 5 g / kgBB, group 2 (negative control), group 3 (caffeine), group 4 extract dose 5g / kgBB, group 5 dose 10g / kgBB and group 6 dose 20g / kgBB. Data was analyze using one way Anova continued with Post Hoc test. The group of single garlic bulb ethanolic extract dose 20 g / kgBB had the highest stimulant effect with 222,722 minutes fatigue time difference and statistically have significant difference (p <0.05) than the negative control group. Group of single garlic bulb extract can influence the time of fatigue of mice by extending the swimming time of mice so that it has a longer fatigue time which means it has a stimulant effect

Abstract

Breast Milk is a natural baby food that is rich in nutrients and contains higher immunological factors compared to formula milk. Foeniculum vulgare Mill plants have long been used by the community as enhancing the production of breast milk (ASI). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lactogogum extracts of Foeniculum vulgare Mill leaves and stems in lactation mice, as seen from mouse neuroglia cells. Foeniculum vulgare Mill extract was made by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The test animals used in the study were white rats, divided into 6 groups namely, normal control, control without drugs (cmc-na 0.5%), comparison of asifit drugs (67.86 mg / KgBB), ethanol extract groups of leaves and stems fennel dosage 315 mg / kg body weight, 630 mg / kg body weight, and 945 mg / kg body weight. The results of the research that have been done show that the ethanol extract of Foeniculum vulgare Mill leaves and stems dose 315 mg / kg body weight, 630 mg / kg body weight, and 945 mg / kg body weight have a lactagogum effect seen from the parameters of the number of glia cells in the brains of breastfed mice. The effect increase is not as large as the dose increase given. The ethanol extract of Adas leaves and stems of 630 mg / kg BW has an optimal lactagogum effect equivalent to drug control on the market as seen from the parameters of the number of glia cells in the brains of breastfed rat.

Abstract

Guava leaves have flavonoids, tannins, and alkaloids as main compounds which have been shown to be active as antibacterial and anticarcinogenic agents. However, they have never been used as additives in skin care products because they have a rough texture. The purpose of this research are to formulate the method in the production of bath soap with the leaves as additives, and they were examined in quality and organoleptic tests. Formulation in production of the soap was carried out by means of variations of the method of extracting guava leaves as additives, namely: without additive as a control (A), with water solvent (B), with vegetable oil solvent (C), and powder dried as a scrub (D). The soap quality tests based on SNI 2016 including tests for alkaline or free fatty acid levels, insoluble ingredients in ethanol and unsaponified fat fractions. Organoleptic test was carried out involving 20 panelists. Data were analyzed by ANOVA-Duncan test. It was found that soap quality test for all samples meet INS except free alkali levels in D soap. The hedonic test results show that all soap samples can be accepted by panelists. Based on quality and organoleptic tests, the formulation method for adding guava leaf extract as an additive that produces the best soap is extraction using a water solvent (soap B). For the next study, it is necessary to confirm the biological activity of soap with guava leaf additives because it is very potential to be used as an antimicrobial soap.

Abstract

Patients compliance is commonly occured in short-course antibiotics therapy. Patients compliance not only contributed to the therapeutics effect but also to prevent antibiotics resistance. Qualitatively, uncompliance in using antibiotics is affected by patients knowledge about antibiotics, improving symptomps, false in interpretating drug labels, activities, the lack of family suppor, and the lack of information given by healthcare provider. This study was aimed to observe patients compliance in using antibiotics assessed in how and howmany times they take their dosage, how they give interval between the doses, and whether they complete their course or not. The reasons behind their behaviour also investigated in this study. The survey was conducted at three public health centres in Surabaya. Patients who received short-course (3-5 days) antibiotics therapy were asked to participate in this study. The compliance was assessed using online developed self-assessment questionnaire containing 17 questions asking how they use their antibiotics and how many pills left sent in the last dosage day. The antibiotics prescription data was recorded as a refference in evaluating patients compliance. During research periods, a total of 100 patients were enrolled in this study. Of that, there were only 12.0% categoryzed as compliant. Most of patients did not give the same time interval between their doses (63,0%) and did not finished or prolonged their course (46,0%). The majority reasons behind their behaviour was feelings better or improving symptomps and simply forgot to take their antibiotics. A strengtnen in counselling and monitoring during their antibiotics course is needed in order to increase their compliance.

Abstract

Black rice bran (BBH) which contains anthocyanins has the ability to lower blood sugar. In therapy diabetes mellitus (DM) it is possible that BBH is used together with the oral antidiabetic Glibenclamide (Gli). Glibenclamide, a weak acid, is well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The absorption of BBH is also good under acidic conditions. So, it is necessary to study the pharmacokinetic interactions between Gli and BBH. The study was designed using a one-way completely randomized design of ten (10) hyperglycemic rats, divided into two groups. Group I rats received Gli 5 mg / kgBW treatment, and group II received Gli 5 mg/kgBW along with BBH 50 mg / kgBW. Sampling was carried out at 1, 2, 4,6, 8 and 24 hours after treatment. Gli levels in the blood were determined by Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (LC/MS). The results showed that in the absorption phase, giving BBH with Gli did not affect the Gli profile in terms of parameters Tmax, Cmax and AUC0-inf. Likewise, in the distribution and elimination phases in terms of parameters VD, ClT and elimination half-time (t1/2). So that the provision of BBH does not affect the pharmacokinetic parameters of Gli in hyperglycemic rats.
