Abstract

The  characteristic of  the  Indonesia  Islamic  education modernism  is  largerly determined by  the  creativity which  the Muslim pointed  out. The  flexibility of   the Islamic  education  system  enable  it  to easily  adapt  itself  to  the  surrounding and  to create the new and appropriate format of  its derivation in line with the new demand of  the umma  for  the  field  in  the modern  era. A number of  experiments had been performed by the Muslim figures, individually or collectively , to fulfill that demand in the early decades of  the 20th century. How did they adopt the elements of  modernity to keep the  Islamic education  remain  in  its own  identity? For this purpose,  it  is  important to understand and  to  explain the  ideas and  the efforts of Syaikh Hasyim Asy’ari of Tebuireng in modernizing his pesantren and its main contribution to the development of   the new madrasahs  in  the  country. Using  the  analytical-critical method,  this examination is in conclusion that Hasyim’s allegiance to stand on his traditional bases in modernizing his pesantren has created a something useful for directing the orientation and giving the strong foundation of  the Indonesia’s Islamic education modernism. His success in harmonizing the elements of  modernity with the Islamic traditions under the religious inspection as the pivotal axis is his real contribution to the new madrasah with its own identity to distinct itself with the public school, though the government has “nationalized” the first to be in equivalent to the public school.

Abstract

At the moment, Indonesian government campaigns for education based on character rapidly. Various theories have been proposed to make this mission success. Unfortunately, the government tends to use the secular’s theories which so far from religious values, whereas Indonesia is the biggest nation with Muslims population in the world. Righteously, the education which based on character should be taken from this Religion’s precepts. Actually, this idea has been engaged by the founding father of this country. In the principle’s foundation of this country (Pancasila), the founding father formulate some principle which using Islamic terms. As an example, in second principle, we can find word ‘Adil’ and ‘Adab’ which both of these words is Islamic term that considered as Islamic basic vocabulary and closely related with Islam’s precepts. Because of this importance, the founding father used this words and Islamic terms inside the principle’s foundation of this country (Pancasila). These indicates how strong the influences of Islamic worldview in prefatory’s constitution of this country (Pembukaan UUD 1945). Therefore, we have to understanding these Islamic terms (adab and adil) with Islamic worldview. Because of the importance of this ‘Adab’ term, then this is the time when the government use these term in implementation of education based on character in this country.

Abstract

The philosophers and theologians for a long time, have been conducting a series of intense discourse on many issues from the perspective of tasawuf. Of course, in this regard, they use a theoretical basis and practical rationale. This article, describes the discourse above in the two different conversations perspective, between tasawuf Sunni and tasawuf falsafi. Tasawuf sunni group are represented by Al-Ghazali and al-Qushayri, confronted by Ibn Arabi and Ibn Sab’in from tasawuf falsafi group. Through a descriptive exploratory study, the researcher asserts that Al-Ghazali divides tauhid into four, tauhid of hypocrites, Muslims majority, muqarrabin, and siddiqin, all are based on ahl sunnah wa alJama’ah faith. While Al- ushayri, divides it into three; tauhid al-haq li al-haq, tauhid al-haq li al-khalq, and tauhid al-khalq li al-haq, all are based on empirical aspects of Irfani. In his study, the author concludes that tasawuf Sunni, focuses mainly on the issue of al-fana and wihdah al-syuhud in order to reach a peak of makrifah. Meanwhile, taswuf falsafi declares the existence of monoexistence, that is, human beings and God is one, similar to (wihdah al-wujud). Man is united with God expressed usually in the form syatahat. The implication is no taklif for humans.

Abstract

As a part of liberal theology, the tenet of religious pluralism suggests tolerant systems toward all religious adherents. However, this tenet turned out to cause new problems for religious adherents. It is because of religious pluralism has the concept of truth relativism. This term has the doctrine that there is no absolute truth of each religion, as the acceptance of all religious paths as equally valid. Stating that all religious paths are equally valid, the bearers of religious pluralism hope no longer a religion that claims to be the owner of the ultimate truth because in essence, religion is the result of a variety of human feelings and religious experience, so every religion that exists in this world contains divine truth. Many religious experts did not agree with this worldview and they actually considered it a new religion that wants to unite all religions. Through this article, the author wants to prove that religious pluralism is a fierce polemic and it could cause many problems in religions. Although it has a good goal, it is very problematic to understand. In fact, many religions have turned out to reject this understanding. There are some movement of many religious experts shows that notion of pluralism is problematic, as containing polemical and highly problematic issue for instance when applied in the existing religions. Every religion saw religious pluralism is only a disguise to erode the confidence of believers who in turn gave rise to the atheists. Eventually, the adherents of each religion will be skeptical towards religion.

Abstract

Collocation is a universal linguistic phenomenon and has become the research topic of linguists, dictionary experts, language pedagogy experts, and also those who are involved in the field of translation. According to translation experts, a good translation is a translation that looks not like a translation. One of factors that cause the readers knowing and feeling that a translation is a translation is that the translator fails to identify a combination of a number of lexical items as a collocation. The ability to identify a collocation in the original text is the initial capital for a successful translation. In general, the translator is not a graduate from translation department of literature faculty. The Arabic language skills they have may already be sufficient. However, to become a good translator is not enough to just master the source language, but also should master the target language. It must be admitted, that during this time, learning Arabic is mainly concentrated on grammar alone while collocation is still a 'rare' or 'weird' thing in the eyes of the Arabic language learners. Teaching of Arabic language by giving an attention to the collocation will familiarize learners to use Arabic language appropriately like native speakers do it. If the translators know collocation and succeed to identify it in doing analysis on the source text, the result of translation will be free from the literal translation and the rigid structure of the language.

Abstract

The development of political thought of contemporary Syiah 12 Imams is not ended by the discourse of “Wilâyat al-Faqîh”; but actually the mullahs always try to explore and give ideas on other concepts which are considered more perfect. Using descriptive-analytical method, this research tries to reveal the dynamics of the study of Syiah political thought through the appearance of various new concepts initiated by the mullahs of the contemporary Syiah 12 Imams since Iranian Revolution and Khumaini’s lifetime till nowadays. The research has concluded that the political thought of Syiah has not been completed yet since the beginning of its appearance. Hence, the concept of “Wilâyat al-Faqîh” is not just a political theory and the last alternative to build an ideal country during “al-Ghaibah al-Kubra”, but it will continue to develop till comes near to the political concept of Ahlusunnah. This indicates that the political concept of Ahlusunnah is a well-set concept and theory of politics because it has been proven well-tested conceptually and in application, and it is also almost similar to the originality of Islamic thought and the prophetic guidance, and it is very appropriate to be applied in the future. The new ideas of the mullahs will have an important role to get Syiah closer to Ahlusunnah in the political concept after being torn apart by enmity as the consequence of the extreme thought of mysticism which infiltrates Syiah thought.

Abstract

It has been a sad fact that whilst the ancient Greco-Roman civilization and the so-called Renaissance have always received high praise, the period in between, popularly known as the Dark Ages, is highly obscured or just ignored. These intermediating centuries are the missing link in the history of science and civilization, when most decisive scientific inventions were made, and the foundations of modern civilisation were laid, with scholarly, literary and scientific works in their thousands, artistic creativity, great architecture, huge libraries, hospitals, universities, mapping of the world, the discovery of the sky and its secrets, and much more. It was the time when al-Biruni, al-Khwarizmi, alIdrisi, al-Razi, Ibn Sina, Ibn al-Haytham, al-Ghazali, al-Jazari and other Muslim luminaries shone on the Dark Ages. This article aims to highlight the fact that the modern Western civilization owes much to the Muslims, who did not only inherit and preserve the ancient learning but modified and developed it. It is the Muslim legacy that paved the way for the revival and enlightenment of Europe in the 15th and subsequent centuries.
