Abstract

This study aims to examine the semantic and philosophical implications of Q.S. al-Zukhrūf [43]: 11, which elucidates the phenomenon of precipitation, by employing the analytical framework of the philosophy of language, specifically A.J. Ayer’s verification principle. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the logical and empirical validity of Qur’anic propositions regarding natural phenomena. This evaluation seeks to map the locus of religious language within the strict meaningfulness criteria delineated by logical positivism. Methodologically, this qualitative study applies tafsīr maudlū’ī (thematic exegesis) alongside an analytic philosophy approach. Ayer’s verification theory posits that a proposition is rendered meaningful solely if it is susceptible to empirical and logical verification. Within this context, the statements in Surah al-Zukhrūf verse 11 concerning the divinely ordained phenomenon of rainfall are evaluated regarding both their scientific and theological significance. The findings indicate that the verse possesses not only spiritual resonance but also empirical correspondence with modern scientific understandings of the hydrological cycle. From Ayer’s perspective, the semantic content of the verse is logically acceptable when construed as an observable and testable natural phenomenon, thereby fulfilling the criteria for “strong” verifiability. Specifically, the study demonstrates that the Qur’anic phrasing bi qadarin (in due measure) inherently contains robust “verifiability in principle.” This is due to its direct correlation with meteorological observational data, effectively shifting the epistemic status of the statement from a purely metaphysical assertion to a philosophically significant factual proposition. Ultimately, this study underscores the necessity of interdisciplinary approaches in interpreting cosmological verses, thereby facilitating a rigorous dialogue between divine revelation and modern philosophical discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an Islamic Education (PAI) curriculum model grounded in Sasak local cultural values to enhance intercultural sensitivity among vocational high school students in the tourism sector within the Mandalika Special Economic Zone, Lombok. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach by adapting the Borg and Gall model into five stages: needs analysis, initial model development, expert validation, limited trials, and field implementation. The research was conducted at Vocational High School (SMKN) 1 Pujut, a Center of Excellence vocational school situated in a multicultural environment with established tourism industry partnerships. Data were collected through interviews, observations, document analysis, and the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS) administered in pre- and post-tests, and analyzed using a mixed-methods approach. The findings indicate that the integration of Sasak cultural values such as solah, lomboq, rema, into the Islamic Religious Education (Ire) curriculum enhances students’ empathy, respect for diversity, and openness in intercultural interactions. The developed model is found to be valid, contextually relevant, and effective for implementation in multicultural tourism-oriented vocational schools.

Abstract

Mamak is also known as penghulu or Datuk in the Minangkabau community's governmental structure. Datuk has duties and responsibilities towards the education of Kemanakan. As society has developed rapidly, the Minangkabau region is no longer inhabited only by the Minang tribe, but also by people from outside the Minang tribe. Naturally, the duties of the Datuk as the highest leader in the traditional government structure in Minangkabau to educate the Kemanakan have increased. Moreover, in Minangkabau society, there are the terms Kandung Kemanakan and Malakok Kemanakan (children of adopted siblings). However, nowadays, sometimes the person entrusted as Datuk is not in Ranah Minang, some have migrated to other areas, leaving behind the duties that should be carried out in the village. Even those appointed as Datuk themselves were not born, raised and grew up in Ranah Minang but in other areas. As a tribe with the philosophy of adaik basandi syara', syara' basandi kitabullah (customs based on Sharia law, Sharia law based on the Holy Book), the implementation of these duties must be in accordance with Islamic teachings, where the Qur'an is the guideline for life. Observing this condition, it is necessary to conduct a study on the duties and responsibilities of the Datuk in educating kemanakan from an Islamic perspective. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of Mamak in educating kamanakan from the perspective of Islamic teachings, with the hope of revitalising the role of Mamak as educators in Minangkabau. The results of this study show that Mamak, as educators, have a responsibility to educate kamanakan in morals and provide education in social life, in accordance with Islamic teachings. This research is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used were interviews and documentation studies.

Abstract

This study seeks to examine the educational policies of the New Order regime, particularly in Islamic religious education, and their impact on the advancement of Islamic education in Indonesia. The approach used is qualitative, using a library research method. Data sources are derived from secondary literature, including books, academic journals, and related scientific publications. Data were collected through a systematic search of documents analyzed descriptively and qualitatively through the following stages: source selection, theme categorization, content analysis, and conclusion drawing. The findings of this study indicate that the New Order's educational strategy prioritized the continuous and in-depth instillation of the ideals of Pancasila throughout society, primarily through education and training. The P4 improvement program and standardized curriculum facilitated the advancement of Islamic educational institutions, such as Islamic madrasas and universities, by integrating the national and religious curricula. This study concludes that the New Order era marked the beginning of the modernization and advancement of Islamic education within the national education system. This period saw a growing awareness of the challenges facing Islamic religious education, prompting the Ministry of Religious Affairs to formulate new policies that implemented various forms of Islamic education, including classical Indonesian Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), Islamic religious institutions (Diniyah), private Islamic schools, public Islamic elementary schools (SDIslamic elementary schools), and state Islamic religious institutions (LPIs). Consequently, the New Order period emerged as a significant chapter in the historical evolution of the modernization of Islamic education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of Medina as a center of Islamic scholarship and education during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). After the migration from Mecca, the Prophet Muhammad made Medina not only the center of government, but also the center of civilization and the development of Islamic knowledge. Educational activities during that period took place through several institutions such as the Prophet's Mosque, Suffah, and Kuttāb, which served as means of fostering faith, worship, morals, and literacy among the Muslim community. This study examines in depth the Islamic education system in Medina during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which includes educational institutions, the role of the companions as teachers, and the learning methods applied by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the main educator with the support of his companions who also acted as teachers. The educational methods applied included exemplary behavior (uswah ḥasanah), dialogue, habituation, memorization of the Qur'an, and the dispatch of teachers to various regions. This research uses a literature study method with a descriptive qualitative approach to examine primary and secondary sources regarding the Islamic education system during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), using in-depth analysis and a literature review. The results of the study show that education in Medina is integral, inclusive, and oriented towards the formation of a well-rounded personality, covering cognitive, spiritual, social, and moral aspects. The education system established by the Prophet Muhammad in Medina became the main foundation for the birth of a sustainable Islamic scholarly tradition that remains relevant as a model for Islamic education throughout the ages, integrating structured institutions, competent teaching staff, and effective learning methods.

Abstract

Pesantren are the oldest Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia and play a central role in shaping the character of the Muslim generation. Amidst the development of globalization and modern technology, pesantren are required to maintain their Islamic scholarly identity while adapting to the competency requirements of the 21st century. This study analyzes the approach to character building of santri (students) at two types of pesantren in South Tapanuli: Pesantren Mushtofawiyah, which represents traditional pesantren, and Pesantren Darul Mursyid, which represents modern pesantren. Using a qualitative method with a case study design, data was obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and analysis of curriculum documents and character building programs. The results show that the Mushtofawiyah Islamic Boarding School develops the character of its students through mastery of classical Islamic texts, intense worship, simplicity, discipline, and the exemplary behavior of the kiai, thereby producing students who are religious, humble, and deeply rooted in classical Islamic tradition. In contrast, the Darul Mursyid Islamic boarding school applies an integrative approach that combines religious education, science, technology, foreign languages, and life skills so that students are more adaptive, communicative, and critical. The study concludes that both pesantren play a strategic role, but excel in different aspects. Moderate integration between tradition and modernization is seen as the ideal model for producing a generation of Muslims who are moral, critical, digitally literate, and ready to face global challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of religious moderation between Sunni and Shia Muslims in Jepara City, Central Java, highlighting the unique context of Shia as a minority facing significant challenges in Indonesia. The research addresses four primary questions: the nature of Sunni resistance to Shia, the manifestations of religious moderation in Jepara, the teachings that threaten Sunni-Shia coexistence, and the impact of Sunni understanding on their attitudes towards Shia across Indonesia. Data gathered through interviews, observations, and literature reviews in 2024 reveal a historical backdrop of Sunni resistance to Shia, including political struggles, persecution, and the issuing of fatwas. Despite this, the study underscores a notable absence of conflict in Jepara since the 1980s, when a culture of moderation emerged. However, concerns remain regarding the potential for immoderation due to doctrinal differences. Initial findings indicate that, while Sunni citizens may refrain from attending Shia activities involving internal Shia doctrine, they are open to participating in non-doctrinal events, suggesting a complex interplay of acceptance and resistance within the community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning outcome assessment and the relationship between authentic assessment concepts and practice in the field. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 3 Pekanbaru City. Participants included PAI teachers, the principal, and students selected through purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that assessment was still dominated by cognitive aspects through written tests, while affective and psychomotor assessments had not been implemented optimally and systematically. Time constraints, administrative burdens, and minimal training were the main inhibiting factors. These findings indicate a mismatch between authentic assessment concepts and learning practices. This study contributes to enriching studies on PAI learning evaluation and emphasizes the importance of strengthening teacher competencies and policy support. Further research is recommended to develop a more applicable and contextual authentic assessment model.
