Abstract

Heart failure is a condition of the heart that cannot pump blood adequately resulting in systemic tissue hypoperfusion. This situation will cause systemic inflammatory reactions. Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) is an inexpensive and easy parameter that can see inflammatory reactions. This research uses descriptive and analytical studies with cross-sectional studies. The number of samples was 67 heart failure patients who were treated at Atma Jaya Hospital. The statistical test used is unpaired T-test to see if there was a correlation between the NLR value in heart failure, after that NLR cut-off point will be analyzed using a receiver operating curve (ROC). Pearson correlation test was conducted to see the correlation of NLR with laboratory results, including haemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocytes, and platelet. The results showed a significant difference of NLR between controls and heart failure patients (p = 1.0402-10). The cut-off point is 2.16 with an area under the curve of 86.4%, sensitivity 79.1%, and specificity 91%. Analysis of NLR data on heart failure with hemoglobin (p = 0.108), hematocrit (p = 0.091), and platelets (p = 0.832) showed no significant correlation, whereas showed a significant correlation with leukocytes (p = 0.017). This study shows a significant difference of NLR between control and heart failure therefore it can be used to predict the prognosis for heart failure. This study also found no significant correlation between NLR with the amount of haemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelets, while there was a correlation with leukocytes.

Abstract

Anemia can be caused by a decrease in hemoglobin (Hb) levels, chronic disease, severe bleeding, nutritional deficiency, and infectious diseases. Iron deficiency is the most common cause of anemia (50%). Vitamin C has an important role in increasing absorption of iron in the body which can indirectly affect the increase in Hb formation. This study was conducted to determine whether iron and vitamin C supplementation affect the changes of Hb levels in women. This study was done by quasi experimental with single blind pretest posttest control group and with a stratified random sampling technique. Respondents were female students in Faculty of Medicine UNIKA Atma Jaya. The total number of sample was 58 which was categorized into two groups. The first group was given iron and vitamin C supplementation. The second was only given iron supplementation. There were 16 respondents (27,6%) aged 16-18 and 42 respondents (72,4%) aged 19-21. The average change in Hb level before and after intervention in group 1 was 1,934 g/dL, and P = 0,000 (P <0,05), the average change in Hb level before and after intervention in group 2 was 1,086 g/dL, and P = 0,000 (P <0,05). The difference of change in Hb levels in groups 1 and 2 had an average of 0,848 g/dL, and P = 0,005 (P <0,05). For conclusion, Iron and vitamin C supplementation has a greater impact on the changes of Hb levels compared to iron supplementation only.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women in the world. According to WHO, the incidence of breast cancer is about 2.1 million. The high mortality rate is often influenced by various reasons, one of which is the prognosis in patients. The level of lymphocyte infiltration in tumor cell tissue has been shown to correlate with a better prognosis in patients, while necrotic tissue found in breast cancer often shows worse prognostic value. To determine the relationship between the area of necrosis with the degree of infiltration of lymphocytes in the breast of Rattus norvegicus induced by DMBA. Method: True experimental study with post-test only controlled group design method using 40 Wistar strains of female (Rattus norvegicus) mice 12-13 weeks old. The technique for taking uses simple random sampling. Examining 2 variables, namely the dependent variable area of necrosis and the independent variable degree of lymphocyte infiltration. The treated group is injected with subcutaneous DMBA 10 mg/Kg BW between the two lower nipples during the middle of the fifth week with a three-week interval of administration to reach 14 times the total administration. Cancer tissue is taken in the fifth week. Data are analyzed by the Spearman test. Results: This study shows no relationship (P> 0.05) between the area of necrosis with the degree of lymphocyte infiltration. Conclusions: There is no relationship the area of necrosis with the degree of lymphocytes infiltration in breast Rattus norvegicus Induced by DMBA.

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic poses a challenge for researchers all over the world to find effective drugs. Previous studies had identified the role of Mpro, TMPRSS2, RdRp, and ACE2 which are useful as promising drug targets to inhibit SARS-CoV-2. This study aimed to identify the potential compounds derived from Garcinia mangostana (mangosteen) as potential SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors using a molecular docking study. A total of 6 compounds of mangosteen such as 8-desoxygartanin, α-mangostin, β-mangostin, Ƴ-mangostin, garcinon e, and gartanine were used in this study. N-acetylcysteine (NAC), nafamostat, remdesivir, and lopinavir were also used as comparative drugs. Compounds and comparative drugs were docked on Mpro, TMPRSS2, RdRP, and ACE2 using AutodocTools 1.5.6 and Autodock Vina. The visualization of molecular interactions was carried out by Discovery Studio v16. All compounds met the criteria as drugs based on Lipinski’s solubility test and were safe to use based on toxicity test with admetSAR. Docking results showed that all compounds had an affinity to all receptor targets. 8-Desoxygartanin showed strong molecular interactions compared to the comparative drugs with binding energies of -8.0, -9.6, - 7.8, and -8.6 kcal/mol for Mpro, TMPRSS2, RdRp, and ACE2, respectively. All compounds have the potential to be developed as potential inhibitors through inhibiting Mpro, TMPRSS2, RdRp, and ACE2. Therefore, in vitro and in vivo investigations are needed to bring these compounds to the clinical setting.

Abstract

Cancer is one of the biggest health problems with lung cancer as the first rank in the number of new cases and deaths. Non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is a type of lung cancer which accounts for about 85% cases. Previous research identified the role of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) as the most suitable target to treat NSCLC. This study used a molecular docking technique to identify the potential compounds derived from Camellia sinensis (green tea) leaves as therapeutic agent to treat NSCLC. We tested 12 compounds in green tea leaves along with gefitinib as a comparative drug. Docking was carried out on EGFR as receptor target by Autodock Tools and Autodock Vina. Molecular interactions were visualized by Discovery Studio v16. All compounds met the criteria as drugs based on Lipinski’s solubility test and were safe to use based on toxicity test with AdmetSAR. Docking results showed that all compounds had affinity to EGFR receptor. Catechin and myricetin had the same energy bonds as gefitinib which were -7,9 kcal/mol, while theaflavin gallate, theaflavin digallate, epicatechin gallate, epigallocatechin-3-gallate, catechin gallate, thearubigin, quercetin, and kaempferol were proven to have the strongest binding energy compared to gefitinib which were -10.6, -9.8, -8.9, -8.9, -8.5, -8.3, -8.0, and -8.0 kcal/mol, respectively. All compounds have the potential for development into drugs for NSCLC treatment. Further in vitro and in vivo investigations are needed to bring these compounds to the clinical setting.
