Abstract

A design may not be created instantly, without going through a process of creation. At the beginning it all starts from nothing, blank. It requires a visual research to make a visual communication. Without a visual research, the design will not have a strong meaning to be communicated. When an idea is created, the next step is to generate the idea to become a design. The first thing a designer to do is drawing a line. Line is one of the design basic elements. In the journey to make a good design, a designer requires a visual record to assist her/him in remembering what is important. A visual record contains not only visual things seen by eyes, but also the perceived things. What is felt at the moment is important because it is easier to forget than visual memory. Sense is an important element in design. A good work will easily be communicated not only by visuals but also from senses. The study was conducted as an insight into the process of making a visual record of nirmana using visual recording method in the exploration of dots and dashes. This method was used to sharpen the sensitivity of students to dots and lines. Initially, the students visited a traditional market to do the visual research. After that, they created a visual record in the form of the composition of dots and lines in nirmana to remember the taste, smell, and visual experiences.

Abstract

Comic has been people?s favorite since 1930. As the growth of years and technology, the demands in designing comic were also increasing. To fulfill the demands, comic authors spent their times to draw so that they have no time to discover other element besides technical. Therefore, it is important if the comic author helped by 3D technology to accelerate technical process so that the comic authors will get extra time to develop other elements like concept and story. Data is gathered from interviews with both semi-professional and professional comic authors who are having problems being solved. Solving problems are conducted by using 3D software to draw picture of distorted space. And then two semi-professional comic authors will try to draw distorted space in tracing the picture from 3D software to see how many times needed to draw hard part traditionally.

Abstract

Sudjojono has produced hundreds of artworks, one of them is the painting of ?The Battle between Sultan Agung and Jan Pieterszoon Coen?. Sizing 3 x 10 m, not only this painting is significant in size, it also shows Sudjojono?s in-depth study from aesthetic and historical side. The painting consists of 3 panels depicting Sultan Agung?s meeting with his royals, the battle scene between Mataram and Dutch troops, and the last panel depicting the meeting between JP Coen and Kyai Rangga. Some of the message conveyed by the painter is that the painting was 70% made of historical facts and did not come from the painter imagination only, better to be in peace than war and revenge and the last message is that western and eastern people are actually equal, and as eastern people should not need to have low self-esteem. Besides those messages there are still many symbols and signs that have in-depth meaning which will be studied and examined thoroughly such as figures involved in the battle, location of battle, clothing, etc.

Abstract

Social conflict among community in Indonesia has often happened. In this research we will show that social conflict among community is not always involving two different community about their social background: Community of Dalong Society and Tanah Dereng. They have familial relationship, living in the same economic stratification and their religion is same also. Based on the community characteristic, we attempt to explain the causing of the conflict with using the social change approach in relation with conception of Max Weber about authority. According to Weber there are three ways in which power is commonly transformed into authority: traditional authority, rational-legal authority and charismatic authority. To explain the community conflict in our case, we used conception about traditional and rational-legal authority. Directing by these conception, we analyzed that the conflict happened in one side because of changing in traditional authority. There were groups of community member has not obedience to chief of traditional community, and the other side the government has not ability to operate the legal rule.
