Abstract

Broadcasting regulation is one interesting thing to be observed in Indonesia?s television industry development. One television program that mostly having violation of the regulation is Empat Mata which continued with Bukan Empat Mata broadcasted by Trans7. This supports the researcher to do research about how the exact perception of broadcasting practitioners towards broadcasting regulation in Indonesia. The result of qualitative research, which collects data through observation and literature study, shows there is lack of knowledge in broadcasting practitioners about Indonesia?s Broadcasting Commission (KPI) and broadcasting regulation in Indonesia. Besides less socialization, multi-interpretation troubles in some regulations are the probable cause of increasing numbers of violation towards broadcasting regulations. As preventing action, it needs to have open dialog between KPI and broadcasting practitioners as bridging communication of their different authorities, which would be useful to increase quality of television show in Indonesia.

Abstract

The difficulty of a teacher to teach a second language to students can be addressed by contrastive analysis, where it is assumed that learning a second language is influenced by the first language acquisition. The purpose of this article is to describe the level of a comparable degree of passive sentences in Indonesian and English to provide benefits as a reference in the teaching of English as a second language. This study was conducted with qualitative methods, the reference library of resources Indonesian and English. Passive Sentences in Indonesian views of the structure using the "di", "ter" or "ke", in English we use "to be + past participle" depends on the time it happened. Context of the sentence must be considered so that the meaning contained in them can be understood. Once analyzed and searched in the matching and comparison of passive sentences in Indonesian and English, the authors have found similarities and differences which can be structurally or pragmatically.

Abstract

Religion and terrorism are the two (2) terms that go hand in hand with each other throughout the history of our humanity. Religion and terrorism became a classic story that characterizes the dynamics of human history from time to time. Safe and peaceful situation was far from our social reality. It should not be allowed. Need to be reconstructed in ways and surefire strategies to restore the condition of Indonesian people towards good and true. It takes a critical awareness of the depth of every religion in Indonesia to be inclusive towards others of other faiths. It is worth noting that terrorism is often the name of religion as an ideology behind the movement.

Abstract

Article clarified the relationship between knowledge of syntax and reading skill in English for specific purposes. The research was conducted at the Industrial Engineering Faculty of Trisakti University in 2002 with sample of 100 students using simple random sampling by Lottery. Data was analyzed by using simple regression test and simple correlation test. The result of the research revealed that there was a positive relationship between knowledge of syntax and reading skill in English for specific purposes. It is concluded that reading skill in English for specific purposes can be improved by increasing knowledge of syntax.

Abstract

The study aimed to reveal the social phenomenon in a literary work, especially pedophilia. The research used qualitative approach by applying library research using psychological theory introduced by Sigmund Freud. The data source was Lolita, an English novel, written by Vladimir Nabokov. The analysis is divided into three parts; they are the identification of main character, characterization, and pedophilia. The findings were as follows. First, the main character was Humbert as his high intensity in all the events that build the whole story. Second, the characterization described that the main character was obsessive, possessive, and immoral. Third, the role of literary work revealed pedophilia phenomenon. Finally, it can be concluded that the literary work has played a very important role in revealing the social phenomenon.

Abstract

Power of human intelligence and reasoning power as God's creation that has such a great ability and accompanied with such advanced technology to create or creation something, make something that is often beyond the limits of existing rules at the level of human life itself. The result of creativity and creations that appear either truly original creation or a form can not be separated from adaptations of copyright law. Copyright laws are made with the intent to regulate and protect the rights, in fact, considered to still have the weakness, therefore this paper tries to lift the adaptations within the framework of copyright law. In this article the author uses qualitative and descriptive methods are based on secondary data. From the results have not been found the regulations or laws that specifically deal about adaptations

Abstract

The objective of the research is to study the effect of the lecturer?s ability to manage the class and the learning model on the learner?s motivation. The research was conducted in Bina Nusantara University, Jakarta from the beginning of March 2013 to May 2013 The method that is used in this research, with a sample of 150 respondents selected randomly, is path analysis method. The result of the research to shows that there is positive direct effect of (1) the lecturer?s abitity to manage the class, and (2) learning model, on the learner?s motivation.

Abstract

The task of the designer is not limited to beautify the aesthetic appearance of a form, but more complex and down to the root of the problem. Based on observations made at the educational institution, all this time, the process of designing is carried out in the world of education, discusses the more common problems and it simply just to beautify a form. The purpose of this study is to revitalize the importance of the design process that is accompanied by a pattern of critical and creative thinking in finding solutions to design problems. So that the resulting design, and variations will have a better quality after going through deeper thinking. The research method is descriptive-qualitative research that are taken from various sources of books, internet and student assignments. The data are summarized and analyzed and made a conclusion.

Abstract

In relation to teaching and learning language, speaking always becomes an important skill. Speaking lesson has been designed as the main course in foreign language teaching and teachers have to master the teaching method in class, and he must be able to design a standard speaking test to assess student capability in speaking. In this article, the writer uses the theory of standard speaking test design, and combines it with the result of interview with three speaking teachers of the Chinese Department, BINUS University. This is to analyze the speaking test design and content. The result of the analysis shows that the important parts in speaking test design are reading, questions and answers, and the narration. It is used to assess student?s expression, communication, and the level of phonetic abilities For the test content, the three teachers think  that the material must be studied before and it is also possible to use small part from other materials outside the textbook.

Abstract

This research is to measure foreign language study effectively from staffs in one directorate in various abilities. The methodology of this research is experiment method consists of 11 subject respondents with 3 different English level abilities. The experiment is done in combining the 3 levels in one class with the same level of difficulty for 3 months and 26 meetings. The data founded which will be analysed is placement test, mid-test, and final test data in quantitative. Meanwhile, qualitative data is gathered from observation result during training. From the observation, factors raising uneffective training are study motivation, self-efficacy and confidence level, and the needs for creating environment that supports foreign language learning so required ability could be improved.
