Abstract

Abstract

TV nasional Indonesia, terutama satu dekade terakhir ini, cenderung menyiarkan reality show, game show, dan sinetron. Sementara itu, beberapa faktor penghambat antara lain kontestasi ekonomi dan politik, rating, maupun kepemilikan modal Kata kunci: perubahan, budaya populer, pola konsumsi Abstract This paper explores the dynamic of popular culture in Indonesian national TVs after the legislative election and president election in 2009 and 2014. Debate on popular culture in Indonesia is getting more important, particularly when it is related to national politics. Popular culture can be studied through film, music, or other TV programs. In the recent decade, the trend of Indonesian national TVs tend to broadcast reality show, game show and soap opera. It shows that Indonesian TVs are part of popular culture or low and cheap culture. However, AGB AC Nielsen Media Research in their February 2010 newsletter informed that the news rating increased, both in duration and number of audiences. Does it indicate that TV as media of socialization or values transmission is working? Or is that only a trend in Indonesian TVs? Moreover, the number of active audiences is increasing rather than the passive ones. Using qualitative approach, the data was gathered from the interviews and the secondary ones. This research shows that there are changes in the pattern of TV consumption in Indonesian society with several push factors, such as gratification, comparison between TV programs and journalists’ responsibility. Meanwhile, several obstacle factors are economic and politics contestation, rating, and share. Keywords: change, popular culture, consumption pattern

Abstract

Abstract

This brief paper aims to explore trafficking demand using some perspectives from the field of marketing. It may seem invidious to use such terms when referring to human beings, but today there is a large and vibrant market for trafficked persons in a number of economic activities. Traffickers are regularly thinking of how to meet and stimulate the demand for their product. This has been an exploration of demand for trafficked people. It is based on very little hard evidence and only a working knowledge of marketing. The lack of information needed to address this question points to a profound need for better research all along the “product chain” of human trafficking, and especially with consumers of trafficking victims. Abstract

Study of philology in Serat Sindujoyo manuscript was focused in its illustration or drawings. Tracing Serat Sindujoyo manuscript philologically in terms of its textology and codicology will provide readability for present readers and as codex unicum. Therefore, it can provide new facts on literary works in eastern Pesisir of Java that is not alienated among others standard literary works based on kraton. Concerning its text, the context inside the written text and illustrations can be revealed and used as source of information about Javanese local wisdom and also guide for youth who are slowly forgetting their identity as a Javanese.

Abstract

Adopting Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach, this paper offers a model of sociolinguistic study on identity of power in the case of Javanese local gentry (nobleman). The analysis strongly confirmed Soemardjan’s (1981) thesis that the Javanese local gentry did not any longer hold powers of economy and politics towards their people. Their power has shifted to the unpowerful area of culture. Such power shift has given an impact to breaking traditional structure of Javanese society. A conclusion drawn from the analysis undoubtedly proposes a critical thesis that the structure of Javanese society as argued by Koentowijoyo (2004) as consisting of the Sultanate, priyayi (local gentry), and kawula (the people) should have been reconsidered. In this paper, I propose that the modern structure of Javanese society should consist of only the Sultanate and the people. Until this time, the Sultan does still play his role as administration.

Abstract

This article discusses the reinterpretation of urban ethnicity which differs to the concept of ethnic groups introduced by classical anthropologists. Urban ethnicity, as Hirschman suggested, could be defined as the foundation of economic and political organizations in the past and present which might be projected to the future; it is totally unrelated to its primordial characteristics. Hirschman’s perspective becomes significant to understand the dynamics of urban ethnicity which has been interpreted or articulated through “highly dynamic communication and differentiation strategies, when ethnicity works as a resource for political negotiation process in urban life to build what Ojeda called “new recognition scenario by the state”. The case of 2017 Regional Election of Jakarta Governor-Vice Governor -which is seen as dividing Jakarta people into indigenous Islams and non-indigenous non-Islams- might provide an interesting example of how to construe urban ethnicity in the present context
