Abstract

Wualae (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R. M. Smith) is plant that traditionally used as traditional medicine in Southeast Sulawesi. It contains fl avonoids, tannins, and terpenoids that act as anti-infl ammatory. The studyaims to investigate the anti-infl ammatory activity of ethanolic extract of wualae by stabilizing human red bloodcell (HRBC) membrane. Hemolysis and stability due to oxidative induction and hypotonic solutes are used asmeasures of anti-infl ammatory activity. The positive controls used in this study were diclofenac sodium withvarious concentrations of 250 ppm; 500 ppm; 750 ppm; 1000 ppm; 1250 ppm; and 1500 ppm. Sample wasalso having similar identical concentration. According to the results of stability and hemolysis percentage ofE. elatior fruit ethanol extract to HRBC were 57,75% and 42,25% (250 ppm), 66,71% and 33,29% (500 ppm),74,10% and 25,90% (750 ppm), 75,72% and 24,28% (1000 ppm), 79,87% and 20,13% (1250 ppm), and 84,89%and 15,11% (1500 ppm). Compared with diclofenac sodium stability and hemolysis percentage were 62,61%and 37,39% (250 ppm), 66,71% and 33,29% (500 ppm), 71,02% and 28,98% (750 ppm), 72,10% and 27,90%(1000 ppm), 73,94% and 26,06% (1250 ppm), 76,63% and 23,37% (1500 ppm). These data suggest that the ethanolic extract of wualae is potentially have activity as anti-infl ammatory.

Abstract

Curcumin has low solubility in water and has low stability so that a drug delivery system is needed that can overcome these problems. One delivery system that can be used to overcome these problems is transethosome. Transethosome is composed of several component, one of them is surfactant. Surfactant is a component that can help improve the stability of the transethosome system so that in this study research was conducted on the eff ect of the use of a combination of surfactants (tween 60 and span 60) on the physical stability of transethosome curcumin. In this study used a combination of tween 60 and span 60 with a ratio of 1: 2, 1: 1, 2: 1 at a concentration of 5%. Transethosome formed then characterized include organoleptic, viscosity, particle size and particle size distribution, zeta potential, adsorption effi ciency and pH. Transethosome characteristics were observed for 8 weeks to see the physical stability of the transethosome. The results at week 0 indicate that the transethosome formed a suspension with orange color and smelled of phosphatidylcholine with the highest viscosity in formula 3, has a particle size of 1-1000 nm, polydispersity 0-0.571, has a negative zeta potential value, has an absorption effi ciency above 80 % and pH 8.5-10.0. Physical stability test results show the use of a combination of tween 60 and span 60 with rasio 3:1 (F3) can improve the physical stability of transethosome curcumin.

Abstract

Research on the Estrogenic Mechanism Study of the Combination of Basil Herb (Ocimumamericanum) and Fennel Fruit (Foeniculum vulgare) against the background of research results whichshowed that the combination of 70% ethanol extract of basil herbs 0.35g / 200g BB and fennel fruit0.0725g / 200g BB had effi cacy estrogenic because it greatly aff ects the duration of the estrus phase,vascularization and weight of the ovaries and uterus. The aim and target to be achieved from thisresearch is to know the working mechanism of the combination of estrogenic basil and fennel fruitherbs. The parameters observed were histopathological examination of the ovary and uterus. Histopathictest results in the ovary and uterus show the eff ect of treatment on the development of follicles in theovary and uterine wall thickening. So it can be concluded that the mechanism of estrogenic combinationof basil and fennel fruit extracts occurs through the mechanism of genomics, where phytoestrogencompounds in both plants pass through cell membranes and interact with receptors so that they canproduce estrogen-like eff ects.

Abstract

Administration of antibiotics in the private hospital "X" adopted a concept called RonaldIrwanto Antimicrobial Steweardship Program (RASPRO). The suggestion of an empirical antibioticcombination in type III stratifi cation community pneumonia patients was meropenem-levofl oxacinor meropenem-amikasin. The aim of the study was to determine the eff ect of empirical antibioticcombination meropenem-levofl oxacin with meropenem-amikacin to RASPRO type III stratifi cationcommunity pneumonia patients towards the LOS and decreased leukocytes. The test sample calculatedusing diff erence between two population proportions formula and analysed using Chi-square method.Diabetes mellitus, immobilisation and geriatrics as confounding variables were controlled by logisticregretion multivariate analysis. The results showed that meropenem-levofl oxacin had a tendency 1.81times to experience LOS < 5 days and 0.92 times to experience decreased leukocytes ≥ 10% comparedto meropenem-amikacin, but both were not signifi cant (p 0.161 and p 0.835). The result control ofconfounding variables were found that geriatrics as a meaningful confounding variable eff ect of LOSand no confounding variables were considered to aff ect the decreased leukocytes. In conclusion, thereis no eff ect of empirical antibiotic combination meropenem-levofl oxacin with meropenem-amikacintowards the LOS and decreased leukocytes to RASPRO type III stratifi cation community pneumoniapatients using statistics after controlling the confounding variables.

Abstract

Atherosclerosis is chronic inflammatory disease that can be prevented with anti-inflammatoryactivity agents and reduce thrombus formation in blood vessels. Tembelekan leaves (Lantana camaraLinn.) contain fl avonoids, saponins, and essential oils which potential to inhibit platelet aggregation andbe anti-inflammatory. This study aimed to test the in vivo anti-platelet aggregation and anti-inflammatoryactivity of tembelekan leaves. Platelet anti-aggregation test was carried out on mice by assessing thedecrease in plasma absorbance after addition of ADP. Mice were divided into normal group, positivecontrol group which was given clopidogrel and 3 test groups which were given Tembelekan leaf extractat a dose of 2.5, 5, 10 g/kgBW. In vivo anti-inflammatory test used the Winter method with intraplantar1% carrageenan as inducer. There was a signifi cant decrease in plasma absorbance after addition ofADP at doses of 2.5 and 5 g/kgBW of tembelekan leaves i.e 5.47% and 12.28% compared to thenormal group. Positive control and dose of 10 g/kgBW gave the same eff ect. In anti-inflammatorytest, the doses of 3.2 and 6.4 g/kgBW of tembelekan leaves gave percentage value of inhibition whichwas not signifi cantly diff erent with diclofenac sodium. Tembelekan leaves potentially as anti-plateletaggregation and anti-inflammatory properties.

Abstract

Mefenamic acid belongs to a class of the non-steroidal anti-infl ammatory drugs that work asan analgesic. Mefenamic acid is sensitive to the light and temperature, also has unpleasant odors andtastes. Microencapsulation technology is a technique where the active substance is coated by a thin layerso that the active substance is protected from environmental infl uences. The aim of this research was toformulate and characterize mefenamic acid in the form of microcapsule using ionic gelation methodswith sodium alginate. Preparation was done by comparing the concentrations of sodium alginatepolymers namely, 1%, 2%, and 3%. Success parameters include the entrapment effi ciency, particleshape, particle size distribution, and dissolution. The results on the entrapment effi ciency using UVVISspectrophotometer showed a concentration of 1% polymer has a high value of 94.02%, for particleshapes using the optical microscope showed that three formulas were spherical with the smallest particlesize distribution was 1266 μm. The dissolution test by type II dissolution test showed that the higherthe concentration of polymer used, the slower the drug release. This research provides an alternativeformulation of mefenamic acid microcapsule by using sodium alginate polymer.

Abstract

Jagung sebagai komoditas utama di Provinsi Gorontalo menghasilkan limbah yang cukupbanyak. Hal ini membuat pemerintah menawarkan peluang investasi dengan memanfaatkan limbahjagung, di antaranya rambut jagung. Studi pustaka menunjukkan bahwa rambut jagung memilikiaktivitas antioksidan yang cukup baik, sehingga dilakukan formulasi lip balm dengan memanfaatkaninfusa rambut jagung sebagai bahan aktif. Penelitian kuantitatif dengan quasi eksperimen laboratoriumdilakukan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dari sediaan lip balm rambut jagung (Zea mays L.)yang diformulasi dengan menggunakan tiga konsentrasi infusa rambut jagung, yaitu Formula A (7,5%);Formula B (15%) dan Formula C (22,5%). Sediaan dibuat dengan mencampurkan fase air (infusa rambutjagung dan gliseril monostearat) dengan fase minyak (lanolin, beeswax, setil alkohol, paraffi n cair danminyak jagung) serta emulgator (span 60 dan tween 60). Hasil uji stabilitas organoleptik dan pH selama4 minggu pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perubahan, baik dari segi organoleptik maupunpH masing-masing sediaan. Aktivitas antioksidan diukur dengan menggunakan spektrofotometer UVVisibel“SHIMADZU UV-1800” dan kuersetin (1000 μg/mL) sebagai pembanding. Hasil pengujianmenunjukkan bahwa Formula B (15%) memberikan aktivitas yang lebih baik dalam meredam radikalDPPH dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 0,987 mg/mL, Formula C (22,5%) sebesar 1,857 mg/mL dan FormulaA (7,5%) sebesar 2,909 mg/mL.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a disease that requires a long treatment time, this will have an impact on drug use and costs in the long term. Therefore it is necessary to find an alternative drug that is eff ective and effi cient by using pharmacoeconomics methods, that is cost-eff ectiveness analysis. The purpose of this study was to determine which of the two combination drugs was eff ective and effi cient for the treatment of schizophrenic patients in hospital Marzoeki Mahdi Bogor. This research method used cross sectional design, the sample size in this study was 90 schizophrenic patients obtained from patient medical records and data collected prospectively from dr. H. Marzoeki Mahdi in 2019. Samples were divided equally into two groups, one group received haloperidol - chlorpromazine and the second group received haloperidol - risperidone. The eff ectiveness parameter used in this study is the GAF (Global Assessment of Functioning) value. The results showed that the combination of haloperidol - risperidone was more eff ective than the combination of haloperidol - risperidone, this was evidenced by an increase in the patients GAF value by 95.5% (43 patients) with an average diff erence between the initial and fi nal GAF values of 6.89, while the combination of haloperidol - chlorpromazine amounted to 93.3% (42 patients) with an average diff erence between the initial and fi nal GAF values of 5.84. The ACER value of haloperidol - chlorpromazine is Rp. 6,587,753 and the ACER value for the haloperidol – risperidone combination is Rp. 6,148,897. In conclusion, the haloperidol - risperidone combination is more cost eff ective (p < 0.05) than the haloperidol - chlorpromazine combination.

Abstract

Cocor bebek leaves contain fl avanoids which have anti-infl ammatory power by inhibitingprostaglandin synthesis by blocking the work of cyclooxygenase and inhibiting leukotriene by blockinglipookigenase. Infl ammation is a local protective response caused by damage to tissue caused by physicaltrauma, damaging chemicals, or microbiological substances. This study aims to determine the eff ect ofcocor bebek leaf extract as an anti-infl ammatory in leg edema of white mice (Rattus novergicus) with2% carrageenan induction. In this test using the in vivo activity test method for white rats (Rattusnovergicus) which has been induced by carrageenan. The volume of the rat’s feet is measured usinga pletismometer. Rats were divided into fi ve groups, the fi rst group as negative control were givendiclofenac sodium gel, groups two, three, four were given ethanol extract of leaves of cocor bebek 200,400 and 600 mg respectively, group fi ve as negative controls then calculated volume of feet. The resultsobtained, extract of 400 mg better anti-infl ammatory eff ects.

Abstract

Continuation of research on Macaranga plant has been conducted. In this study, the totalphenol content (TPC) of Macaranga hispida Blume Mull. Arg leaves extracts were investigated. Gallicacid (1) and methyl gallate (2) have been isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction which highest phenoliccontent (8.41 mg GAE/g). Serial techniques of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods, namelyextraction, fractionation, purifi cation, FTIR, LCMS, and FT-NMR were used to isolate and identify theisolates. Cytotoxicity of compound 1 and 2 against P-388 cell line showed that compound 2 has higheranticancer activity compared to compound 1 with IC50 value of 75.53 μg/mL.
