Abstract

This qualitative research aims to describe (1) the form of language variety, (2) factors, and (3) the contribution of Indonesian language variety in learning based on the perspective of Holmes' (2013) language variety analysis. The data of this research are in the form of speech in the form of words and sentences. Source of research data for Makassar language and literature education students' batch 2020 at UNM. The results showed that the variety of languages in the teaching and learning process of PBSD class of 2020 UNM students had four forms: (1) formal language variety; (2) a variety of consultative languages; (3) casual language variety; and (4) variety of familiar languages. The consultative language variety adheres to code-mixing elements, phonological errors, and dialectal elements. This study shows that there are socio-cultural factors, situations, demographics, speech media, and gender. By using supporting teaching materials and language skills, support the Indonesian language.

Abstract

In the current modern era, the pace of development of the literary world becomes more varied, innovative, and creative in literature, one of which is through film media. The novel adaptation is in great demand by the millennial generation today, especially if the film is played by actors who are on the rise. It is undeniable that the selection of actors also affects the outcome of the film is adapted. Research that carried literary adaptation and the perception of readers of the Bumi Manusia novel. This research was descriptive qualitative research that explained the description of the audience's perception of the Bumi Manusia film. The purpose of the researcher using this qualitative approach was to facilitate the research carried out because the data obtained were in the form of writing. The results showed: (1) the perception of the readers of the Bumi Manusia novel and the audience of the Bumi Manusia film said that the cast of Minke, Annelies, and Nyai Ontosoroh in the Bumi Manusia film managed to play their roles well. The role of women was shown to be quite diverse, the representation of independent, intelligent, firm women was shown by Nyai Ontosoroh, (2) the audience's perception of Bumi Manusia film said that the setting of time, place, and atmosphere in the film was quite in accordance with the novel, there were also variations and additions to several scenes in the film., (3) the audience's perception of Bumi Manusia film said that Hanung Bramantyo as the director has succeeded in adapting the Bumi Manusia novel, with the limitations and advantages of a film, Hanung managed to package 19th century-era novels into films that are popular and easy to understand by today's millennials.

Abstract

A short story is one of the literary works. The variety of problems or events in short stories has no limits so the author has the freedom to present them. Therefore, the complexity of the themes presented by the authors is different. One of the differences is students at the junior and senior high school levels. Both enter the same cognitive development, namely the formal operational stage but have different characteristics of presenting the theme complexity. This study aimed to analyze the theme complexity of short stories written by students in the formal operational stage. This study consisted of two approaches, which were theoretical approach using an objective approach and methodological approach using a qualitative descriptive approach. The results showed that the theme complexity in short stories written by students in the operational stage was in the simple category. Based on the categories, it was found that the characteristics of short story essays for junior high school students were: (1) focusing on major themes, (2) writing short stories based on experiences or observations, (3) not presenting the theme of sexuality, and (4) rudimentary abstract thinking patterns. Then, the theme complexity in short stories written by high school students is in the medium category. According to the categories, it was found that the characteristics of short story essays for high school students were: (1) focusing on major and minor themes, (2) writing short stories based on imagination, (3) presenting the theme of sexuality, and (4) abstract thinking patterns are more perfect than junior high school level.

Abstract

The short story material is contained in the competency standards and basic competencies, then contained in the national standardized school exam grids. One of the elements of a short story that affects the quality of the short stories whether it is interesting or not is a figure of speech. A figure of speech is included in one of the indicators that must be mastered by students in the 2013 curriculum. The purpose of this study is to describe the function of the figure of speech used in literacy writing short stories for junior high school students. This research uses a stylistic approach. The data were collected using the heuristic technique and note-taking technique. Data analysis was conducted using the hermeneutic technique. The data in this study are sentences that contain the figure of speech in the short story made by MTs NU Banat Kudus and MTs NU Nurul Huda students, collected by researchers. The source of data in this study is the short stories made by students of MTs NU Banat Kudus and MTs Nurul Huda Kudus. Based on the results of the study, the function of figure of speech used in the literacy writing short stories of junior high school students obtained 4 types of functions. These functions include the function of bringing a description to life, the function of evoking certain impressions and atmosphere, the function of emphasizing narrative and emotions, and the function of portraying a character's feelings. To streamline the presentation, only two data will be presented as examples of each of the functions of the figure of speech in the literacy writing a short story for junior high school students. The variation in the function of the figure of speech found in this study can be a material for further research.

Abstract

A literary work is inseparable from events, experiences, and also social activities experienced by the authors in real life. In the process, the authors must have a background that underlies why a literary work is created. This study aims to analyze the sociocultural background and the author's worldview reflected in the novel of Keluarga Cemara 2 by Arswendo Atmowiloto. Sociological approach of literature and the genetic structuralism theory were applied in this study. The data were collected by using semiotic reading method. The analysis was carried out through the dialectical method. The results show that 1) the sociocultural background in the novel of Keluarga Cemara 2 consists of the rich and poor community, 2) Arswendo views the poor as people who live with low economic conditions. Financial problem is the main problem mostly faced by the poor. They often get injustice in various ways. In contrast, Arswendo views the rich as people who live with a high economic level. The financial condition of the rich is certainly not a problem. They think that all problems can be solved with money.

Abstract

The use of inappropriate and less innovative teaching materials causes the learning process to be less impressive. This has an impact on the limited ability, knowledge, experience, and creativity of students. This study aimed to develop a prototype of teaching materials for writing exposition texts using the application of Lectora Inspire, which was oriented towards critical thinking skills and contained the value of deliberation. This research used Research and Development (R&D) design that using data on the needs of students and teachers for teaching materials. The results of this study were prototypes of teaching materials for writing exposition texts using the Lectora inspire application, which was oriented towards critical thinking skills and contained the value of deliberation. Prototypes of teaching materials were prepared based on the results of the analysis of data needs and the principles of developing teaching materials. The prototype of the introductory teaching materials used existing principles in the presentation and graphic aspects, namely the principles of integration, convenience, and usability. The prototype of teaching materials for the content section used existing principles in the aspects of material, presentation, critical thinking skills, and the value of deliberation, namely the principles of completeness, attractiveness, integration, convenience, and novelty. The prototype of teaching materials for the closing section used the principles in the presentation aspect, namely integration and convenience. In addition to these principles, there were other principles in the linguistic and application aspects, namely communicativeness, convenience, and novelty. These principles were used to develop an overall prototype of teaching materials.

Abstract

Mangalua (elopement) carried out by a pair of teenagers to realize a marriage that does not get the blessing of both families. Mangalua's activities will damage the name of the women's family because Batak sons forcibly flee their daughters. Research purposes This study aims to find and analyze the settlement of elopement and to find the factors causing the occurrence of elopement contained in the novel Mangaula by Idris Pasaribu. The data collection method used is a method with a first-level semiotic reading technique, namely by heuristic reading with a sociological research approach to Gramsci's literature in Williams. The results of the study found the completion of elopement contained in the novel Mangalua by Idris Pasaribu, namely with several stages including: Martandang, Mangalehon Tanda, Marhusip, Marhata Sinamot and Manjala Sinamot, Maningkir Lobu, Martonggo Raja, Marriage Ceremony. Furthermore, to find the factors that cause the occurrence of the Toba Batak elopement in the novel Mangalua by Idris Pasaribu, among others, because they did not get the approval or blessing of the women, namely the Siboru Anting family. The benefit of the research is as an addition to knowledge to the reader regarding the completion of the traditional Mangalua (elopement) activities in the Toba Batak tribal community which must be preserved.

Abstract

Language has an important role in communication and interaction between humans in everyday life. Speak politely to create effective communication. This study aims to describe the politeness of language in the novel "Ketika Cahaya Rembulan Mengecup Lautan" by Anisha Dayu on the wattpad application. This study examines the observance of language politeness. Politeness theory in this study uses ten politeness thimbles based on Leech's theory of politeness. This research approach uses a theoretical approach and a qualitative descriptive methodological approach. The data of this research are fragments of speech in the novel. The method used in this study is the equivalent and normative methods. with basic listening techniques and advanced techniques, namely note-taking techniques. The results of the study, language is an important role in everyday life. There is politeness in it. In this study, nine politeness thimbles were found which allegedly adhered to the principles of politeness in language. Research related to language politeness has been carried out by several researchers, one of which is Cahyani's research in 2019. This research examines language politeness compliance, language politeness violations and factors that influence the occurrence of language politeness in students' speech acts in interacting at Tidar University. The benefits of this research are in linguistic learning, especially pragmatics related to language, then for teachers and the public and other researchers. For universities, this research can be a source of learning for Indonesian language learning in the school environment.

Abstract

In a literature, the hegemony of power is frequently occurred in leadership activity. It was also occurred in a novel of Ahmad Tohari entitled Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak focused on ruler’s injustice as a social problem. The novel talked about a movement to demolish the hegemonic power. The aim of the study was to describe a form of resistance to hegemony and in what kind of society the hegemony power occurred written in Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak novel. The method of the study was semiotic by using several approaches: heuristic, hermeneutic, and sociology of literature. There were five forms of hegemony namely: hegemony to assets, hegemony to citizens, hegemony of intellectuals, hegemony of shamans to their patients, and hegemony to Chinese descendants. In terms of resistance to hegemony, it was happened the resistance through shaman and media. The resistance to hegemony of power occurred in a proletar – bourgeois society and capitalist – intellectual society.

Abstract

Expository texts writing is important skill in stimulating students' abilities for expressing various thoughts, ideas, opinions, facts. Also, can improve students' abilities in using proper Indonesian. The effectiveness of learning expository texts writing can be increased through the selection of appropriate learning media. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of learning writing expository texts contained disaster mitigation using video based on the creativity level of students in class X. The level of creativity of students is a moderate variable that can affect learning outcomes. This experimental research used a quasi-experimental factory design. Data collection was carried out through pre-test and post-test. Data analysis used paired sample t-test and ANOVA. The results of this study prove the influence of the use of learning media on student learning outcomes. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of video media is proven to be effective in improving the learning outcomes of writing exposition texts.
