Abstract

Biology learning design development is an important matter for teachers to be prepared. It is for the sake of realizing the 21st education for the learners. Learning biology also involves the technology role and its implications to obtain innovative and beneficial products for broader people. This research aims to examine the validity and effectiveness of the development of integrated biology-entrepreneurship based on STEAM learning design on a material about the environmental changes to improve critical thinking skills and the entrepreneurial interest of the learners. The applied development procedures were ADDIE model. The developed learning design consisted of syllabus, lesson plan, learning source, worksheet, critical thinking test, and entrepreneurial interest. The findings showed that (1) the validity of the learning was deemed valid and practical by the expert judgment; (2) the effectiveness of the learning design was proven able to improve the learners’ critical thinking skills with a percentage of 84%, with a sufficient N-Gain category and high category of entrepreneurial interest average improvement with a score of 77. The paired sample t-Test shows that tcount > ttable. Thus, it could be concluded that there was a significant difference between the critical thinking skills and the entrepreneurial interest. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that the biology learning with a material about the environmental changes integrated by entrepreneurship based on STEAM had highly met the validity criteria. It could improve the critical thinking skill and the entrepreneurial interest of the learners.

Abstract

Critical thinking has an essential role in the development of 21st-century skills to form students who have a deep understanding of the subject being studied. The use of portfolio assessment is believed to be a means of mastering a subject. This study was aimed to analyze whether the implementation of portfolio assessment in Biology learning in human coordination systems material can improve students' critical thinking skills. This study used a pretest and posttest control group design. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the means posttest score of students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class was 78.28, and the control class was 63.36. The Independent Sample T-Test showed a significant mean difference between the experimental class and the control class. The improvement of critical thinking skills by implementing portfolio assessment was better than the control class. The regression test showed that the contribution of the portfolio assessment to the improvement of critical thinking skills was 19.1%. The results of the analysis showed that the portfolio assessment distributed students in three categories of critical thinking skills were 59.4% in the enough category, 31.3% in the good category, and 9.4% in the very good category. The conclusion is that the implementation of portfolio assessment has a positive effect on increasing students' critical thinking skills in the human coordination system material.

Abstract

Teacher-centered learning makes students feel unmotivated to learning without the latest innovations in learning. Especially during Covid-19 virus pandemic that makes educational institutions have to dismiss students and make teachers need innovation with new online learning. There needs to be change in the learning process that can arouse student’s motivation. Motivation can affect students' critical thinking abilities. The purpose of this study is to analyze differences and enhancement of motivation and critical thinking abilities between group of students who apply of news based online learning compared with not as the control group. This research is a quasi-experimental research with a quantitative approach. The sample of this research are taken through randomize sampling. The results of the t-test showed significant different (sig. 0.01) of motivation between the classes that applied news based online learning with control classes. T-test results also showed significant different in critical thinking (sig. 0.00). N-Gain of motivation for the experimental group was 0.31 while the control group was 0.12. Meanwhile, N-Gain of critical thinking in the experimental group was 0.67, while the control group was 0.33. The results indicate that the application of the news-based online learning can increase students' motivation and critical thinking. Students who were taught with news-based online learning are more active in expressing their opinions and they are eager to participate in learning activities.

Abstract

Students must have critical thinking ability and utilize ICT in the learning process to face the challenges of 21st century learning. Likewise, in biology learning accompanied by contextual learning related to everyday life such as the concept of environmental change. Technological developments also need to be maximally utilized in the learning process by flipped classroom learning. This study aims to know the increase in students' critical thinking ability towards flipped classroom learning model. This research method used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pretest posttest control group design. The subjects of this study included students of class XMIPA 1 and XMIPA 2 at SMAN 1 Palimanan. The results showed that there is a difference in the increase in critical thinking ability between the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class has a higher N-gain than the control class. The independent sample T test hypothesis test shows that the N-Gain significance value is less than the alpha value, which means that there is a significant difference in critical thinking skills between the experimental class and the control class. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that flipped classroom learning can increase students' critical thinking ability in environmental change material.

Abstract

This study aims to test the validity of the integrated science module of the Qur'an and Hadith to improve the religious character of junior high school students, its effectiveness based on cognitive learning outcomes, and the application of religious characters. The research method uses Research and Development, which consists of research, development, validation, and small and large scale trials. The developed module is validated by material experts, media experts, teachers and students. Module testing was carried out using the Times Series Design design on 23 samples of junior high school students. The results of module validation by material experts with fairly valid criteria and media experts with very valid criteria. The teacher response criteria is very valid and the student response is quite valid. Cognitive learning outcomes using modules based on N-gain results have moderate criteria. The applicability of religious characters during learning has moderate criteria.

Abstract

Theory of Multiple Intelligences in education world is less so concerned. Some chemistry teachers who teach high school students in Semarang City are not aware to this theory due to lack of references. This research aims to know the level of Multiple Intelligences of high school students in Semarang City in chemistry studies according to the indicators as described by Howard Gardner. Those indicators are intelligences of verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, physical-kinesthetic, musical-rhytmic, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and naturalist. This research is conducted in three schools which takes fifty students of XI IPA from each school using random and simple in retrieving the data. That data is collected using questionnaires which are shared to students to know the level of Mutiple Intelligences. The research data is analyzed descriptive-quantitatively, that quantitative data is only used as means of categorizing the level of students’ intelligences. The result of this study is obtained various data on each indicator. The result of quantitatively data analysis shows that naturalist intelligence is obtained at the highest percentage of 71.10%, while verbal-linguistic intelligence is obtained at the lowest percentage of 62.23%. The result of this research can be used as a reference and consideration of high school teachers in formulating a lesson plan that will be applied in chemistry learning. Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that the level of students’ Multiple Intelligence in chemistry learning is averagely categorized as “hight level”.

Abstract

Plant tissue competence is to analyze the relationship between structure and function of plant tissue. This study aims to test the validity and effectiveness of the plant tissue module based on blended learning. The research method uses research and development (R & D) which consists of research, development, validation, and field-testing. The research was conducted on learning constraints, teaching materials, and learning materials (plant tissues). Modules are developed from the results of research which are then validated and legibility tests. The field test was conducted at SMA N 1 Jepara by taking 3 classes as a control class (without modules), experiment 1 (using modules), and experiment 2 (using blended learning modules). The results of the characteristics of the blended learning module of plant tissue are images and videos in the module derived from the results of research on plant tissue of xerophytes, mesophytes (monocots and dicots), and hydrophytes in the organs of leaves, stems and roots which are presented along with tissue information to facilitate analysis by comparing between tissue. The results of module validation by teaching materials experts are 97% and learning materials experts are 100% with very valid criteria, and module readability validation is 90% with easy to understand criteria. The results of the effectiveness of the module in the cognitive aspects of the experimental class 2 were higher than the control class and experimental class 1, which was 90,90% with very effective criteria. Classical mastery of the psychomotor and affective aspects of the experimental class 2 by 100% with very effective criteria.

Abstract

The application of Curriculum 2013 emphasizes more on the scientific approach. Scientific approach can be realized by implementing practicum aimed at developing various domains of learning objectives, such as attitude, skill, and knowledge. This study aims at analyzing the relationship between human resource readiness factors, infrastructure, curriculum, and practicum implementation with the enforcement of senior high school biology practicum in Batang regency. This study employs quantitative approach particularly survey method. The sample are taken by using nonprobability sampling technique, namely purposive sampling, sample of 6 public and private classes of senior high schools. In the process of analysis, the researcher analyzed the data about factors obtained by using path analysis and correlation analysis. Based on the path analysis, it can be concluded that there is a correlational relationship between the factors that influence the implementation of high school biology practicum in Batang Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze higher order thinking skills, character, and science process skills of high school students on plant tissue material through the Project Based Learning (PPA) model. This research method uses Pre-Experimental Designs. This research was conducted in Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar high school. The research sample used was 78 students. The instruments used were multiple choice questions and observation sheets. Student learning outcomes data were analyzed using the N-Gain technique and the minimal classical completeness test to determine higher order thinking skills (HOTS). The results showed that the Project Besed Learning (PjBL) Model was effective in improving students' high-order thinking skills (HOTS) with an average N-Gain of 0.52 in the "medium" category. Effectively growing student character with an average score percentage of 70.36% is included in the "good" category. The character of students that grows includes disciplinary responsibility and cooperation. And it is effective in growing students' science process skills with an average score of 74.73% of science process skills in the "good" category, the science process skills that grow are observing, planning experiments, carrying out experiments, and communicating.

Abstract

Current learning tends to use less varied and teacher-centered methods. The selected learning models and approaches have not been able to motivate students to be able to think critically, so that it affects the science scores in general that do not meet the minimum completeness limit The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of Schoology-assisted PBL-STEM by Environmental Pollution material in increasing critical thinking skills, as well as student learning outcomes. This study was conducted at Junior High School Maria Mediatrix with 4 classes sample, all of which were experimental classes with a total of 114 students. This study is a quantitative study with quasi-experimental study type. To determine the increase in critical thinking skills used the N-gain score test from the pretest and posttest results of four classes in the study that acted as experimental class. The results of the study and analysis can be concluded that critical thinking skills of students who are taught with problem-based virtual learning with STEM approach assisted by Schoology on Environmental Pollution material obtained an average N-gain score of 0.46, in moderate category, so that learning is said to be effective, and an average increase of indicator providing elementary clarification, building basic support and managing strategy and tactics has a higher N-gain score than inference. From learning completeness aspect, there are 94 students who complete individually, 82.5% of the students complete classically. This study can contribute to the development of virtual science learning, especially in the use of PBL-STEM model with better technical implementation.
