ABSTRACT This research was conducted to increase students' writing ability and motivation using cooperative and collaborative learning. It was aimed to reveal; 1) To what extent cooperative and collaborative learning can improve students’ writing ability? 2) How is students’ motivation in writing lesson after implementing the cooperative and collaborative learning? 3) What are factors that influence the improvement of ability and motivation of students in writing? The research was conducted using classroom action research design and the data were divided into qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were taken from observation, questionnaire and interview while quantitative data were taken from writing assignment and test. Thus, it was found that students’ writing ability and motivation was increased after using cooperative and collaborative learning. The factors that influenced the improvement were classroom activities, classroom management and lecturer’s strategy in teaching. Keywords: Cooperative and Collaborative Learning, Motivation and Writing Â

Most of the students got difficulties in comprehending narrative reading texts. It could be seen from the result of exams given by teacher. Thus, this study is aimed at finding out (1) To what extent Small Group Discussion could improve the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at tenth grade MA KMI of Diniyyah Puteri Padang Panjang and (2) What factors could influence the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text by applying small group discussions. The Classroom Action Research (CAR) has been conducted in three cycles. The participants were twenty three students of class X A MA KMI of Diniyyah Puteri. The data were collected by giving reading comprehension tests, observation, interview and field notes. They were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings have shown that (1) Small Group Discussions could improve students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at class X A MA KMI Diniyyah Puteri Padang Panjang, and (2) factors which influence students’ reading comprehension were limited number of students, reading materials and giving rewards to increase students’ participations and motivations, monitoring and group discussion activities.

Perihal anak-anak selalu menarik untuk dibicarakan, termasuk proses pemerolehan bahasa pertama. Dalam berkomunikasi, ada beberapa kosakata yang menurut gramatika pemakaian yang sebenarnya kurang tepat atau jarang digunakan, tetapi dalam ragam bahasa anak dibenarkan, hal itu disebabkan karena melihat kondisi anak yang baru belajar bicara. Anak mulai belajar berbicara pada usia 18 bulan, dan kurang lebih saat usia tiga setengah tahun si anak boleh dikatakan sudah menguasai “tata bahasa†bahasa-ibunya. Dalam makalah ini dipaparkan urutan perkembangan pemerolehan bahasa anak-anak serta tahap-tahap perkembangan linguistik anak-anak. Selain itu makalah ini juga mengupas mengenai kata dalam ragam bahasa anak di Jepang.

The purpose of this study is to know what character values can be instilled through debate learning. Debate learning is a new basic competence that high school students have to study in this 2013 revision of the 2016 curriculum. In 2016, SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar became the 1st champion in high school debate competition in Karanganyar regency. The management of debate learning in SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar has become a benchmark for other schools in implementing debate learning. In addition to the teaching materials and methods used, the main thing in learning this curriculum is about character education for students. This research is qualitative research with case study method. Technique of taking data in this research is by using technique of record and record from result of observation done in class X SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar. The result obtained from this research is the discovery of 13 character values, namely: 1) honest; 2) discipline; 3) hard work; 4) curiosity; 5) nationalism; 6) appreciate achievement; 7) communicative; 8) love of peace; 9) reading; 10) environmental care; 11) responsibility; 12) manners; And 13) confident.Keywords: character education, debate learning, 2013 revision curriculum IMPLEMENTASI PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER DALAM PEMBELAJARAN DEBAT KURIKULUM 2013 PADA SMA NEGERI 1 KARANGANYARAbstrakPembelajaran debat merupakan kompetensi dasar baru yang harus dipelajari siswa SMA pada edisi kurikulum 2013 revisi 2016 ini. SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar merupakan SMA pedoman bagi sekolah-sekolah lain di lingkungan Kabupaten Karanganyar karena terlihat dari input dan output siswa yang baik. Pada tahun 2016 kemarin SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar menjadi juara 1 dalam lomba debat tingkat SMA se-kabupaten Karanganyar. Pengelolaan pembelajaran debat yang ada di SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar menjadi tolok ukur bagi sekolah lain dalam menerapkan pembelajaran debat. Selain materi dan metode ajar yang digunakan, hal utama dalam pembelajaran kurikulum ini adalah mengenai pendidikan karakter untuk siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apa saja nilai-nilai karakter yang dapat ditanamkan melalui pembelajaran debat. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Teknik pengambilan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik rekam dan catat dari hasil observasi yang dilakukan di kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar. Hasil yang didapat dari penelitian ini berupa ditemukannya 13 nilai karakter, yakni: 1) jujur; 2) disiplin; 3) kerja keras; 4) rasa ingin tahu; 5) nasionalisme; 6) menghargai prestasi; 7) komunikatif; 8) cinta damai; 9) gemar membaca; 10) peduli lingkungan; 11) tanggung jawab; 12) sopan santun; dan 13) percaya diri.Kata kunci: pendidikan karakter, pembelajaran debat, kurikulum 2013 revisi

Literary work in the form of drama or prose is seen as a psychological phenomenon that displays aspects of psychology (structure of personality) through the characters of the story. This study aims to describe Willem's personality structure in the form of id, ego, and superego. This descriptive qualitative research used content analysis to study the novel Dasamuka. The approach used in this study is the literary psychology proposed by Sigmund Freud. The validity of the data in this study was obtained using triangulation methods. Data analysis technique employed in this study is interactive analysis technique. The findings of this study are that Willem's id is dominated by the instinct of death and avoidance of discomfort; Willem’s ego is shown by strong efforts and decisions in realizing their desires and duties; and Willem’s superego is seen in the understanding of the moral or rules in society, the emergence of humanity, and feelings of guilt or sin.Keywords: personality structure, Willem, novel DasamukaKEPRIBADIAN TOKOH WILLEM DALAM NOVEL DASAMUKA KARYA JUNAEDI SETIYONOAbstrak Karya sastra berbentuk drama atau prosa dipandang sebagai fenomena psikologis yang menampilkan aspek-aspek kejiwaan (struktur kepribadian) melalui tokoh-tokoh ceritanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kepribadian Willem yang berupa id, ego, dan superego. Penelitian kualitatif bersifat deskriptif ini menggunakan analisis isi untuk mengkaji novel Dasamuka. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah psikologi sastra yang dikemukakan oleh Sigmund Freud. Keabsahan data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dengan menggunakan triangulasi metode. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis interaktif. Temuan penelitian ini adalah id Willem didominasi oleh naluri kematian dan sikap menghindari ketidaknyamanan; ego Willem ditunjukan dengan usaha dan keputusan-keputusan yang kuat dalam mewujudkan keinginan dan tugasnya; dan superego Willem, yakni memahami moral atau aturan masyarakat, munculnya sisi manusiawi, dan perasaan bersalah atau berdosa.

This study is aimed at investigating how the English teachers used language codes in their classroom. The findings of the study revealed that the teachers used Indonesian and English interchangeably, and the larger proporsion is English. The teacher made a marked switching when the introduced new information or intructionand unmarked when there was no new information or instruction introduced. The switching also might occur when they translated what they have just said, and when they introduced the interaction particles at the beginning of their utterances. The findings of the study also revealed that the codeswitching in the classroom had pedagogical porposes. The teacher made switching for classroom management, humour, information clarification, understanding enhancedment, and content presentation.Â

The development of Information Technology (IT) challenges the teacher to use the facility to create interesting and motivating activities in learning English. This article explores how the teachers can use various materials and facilities supported by the new IT to support their students in learning English and to practice their English in authentic environment. The activities incorporate internet-based activities as media to practice integrated-skills in the foreign language. The study seeks to determine the usefulness of using email, blogs, and facebook as current communication media that are available in the internet to facilitate students in learning English both inside and outside the classroom.Â

Learning the Indonesian Language, specially reading aloud in Elementary School must use various techniques. This causes, less motivated students to learn independently and less ability in reading aloud. The solution to resolve problems is apply of modeling phonological techniques in teaching reading aloud. This technique aims at improving reading skills. The phonological modeling technique can be applied by focusing on the pronunciation of phonemes. This research is a classroom action research using descriptive methods. The population are all of student at SDN 02 Paninggahan. The sample is fourth grade students of SDN 02 Paninggahan.The concluded of the research are: 1) learners are more motivated to participate in learning Indonesian language with phonological modeling techniques. 2) Increased thoroughness every aspect / indicator on the first cycle and second cycle increased. The increase occurred in the pronunciation of the phoneme /f/, /u/, /a/, /i/, /k/, and /n/.

Subtitling is a kind of audiovisual translation/AVT. Translating oral dialogue into text (subtitling) has various aspects that must be considered, such as time exposure, space limitation. Related to sociolinguistic aspect, it is also known that language user and usage determined by various factor such as age, sex, and profession. One of the objects in sociolinguistics is register, a language variation, that exist in any social group. This research is aimed at discovering the ways of subtitler translating military register as the character of a social group.
