Abstract

Environmental factors such as air pollution and increase in global warming by using polluting fuels are the most important reasons of using renewable and clean energy that runs in global community. Wind energy is one of the most suitable and widely used kind of renewable energy which had been in consideration so well. This paper introduces an electric power generation system of wind based on Y-source and improved Y-source inverter to deliver optimal electrical power to the network. This new converter is from impedance source converters family. This presented converter has more degrees of freedom to adjust voltage gain and modulation. Also, by limiting the range of simultaneous control (shooting through) while it maintains the highest power of maximizer, it can operate in higher modulation range. This causes the reduce of stress in switching and thus it will improve the quality of output. Recommended system had been simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and shown results indicate accurate functionality.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the harmonic characteristics of electromagnetic force (EMF) in Brushless Alternating Current (BLAC) motor for High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fan application. Vibration and noise are one of the main crucial things in HVLS fan application. It comes from torque ripples which can be detected by harmonics of Electro Magnetic Force (EMF). Commonly, there are a few methods to eliminate the noise and vibrations issue, but most literatures only focus on small motor and not intended for HVLS fan application. Thus, the objective of this paper is to eliminate the harmonics content in EMF at early stage design. Through EMF harmonics the expected torque produced could be used to select proper slot-pole number in order to eliminate the noise and vibrations issue. In here, the analysis involves three different slot-pole numbers which are 18s/20p, 12s/10p and 9s/8p BLAC model, respectively. All models have similar volume of permanent magnet. The analysis is carried out using FLUX 2D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for EMF computational and transient torque computation. Later, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis is used to calculate the harmonics of EMF. The analysis stage includes the EMF parameter analysis, harmonics and torque ripples analysis. It was found that 18s/20p has higher output torque with the lowest 5% torque ripple value. As a conclusion, this paper presents low torque ripple in point of view of the EMF characteristics in designing HVLS fan.

Abstract

In this research paper we investigate the modelling and control of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) driven in rotation by wind turbine, the control objectives is to optimize capture wind, extract the maximum of the power generated to the grid using MPPT algorithm (Maximum Power Point Tracking) and have a specified reactive power generated whatever wind speed variable, the indirect field oriented control IFOC with the PI correctors was used to achieve such as decoupled control. To validate the dynamique performance of our controller the whole system was simulated using dSPACE DS1104 Controller board Real Time Interface (RTI) which runs in Simulink/MATLAB software and ControlDesk 4.2 graphical interfaces.

Abstract

This paper presents simulation and experimental results of anti-windup PI controller to improve induction machine speed control based on direct torque control (DTC) strategy. Problems like rollover can arise in conventional PI controller due to saturation effect. In order to avoid such problems anti-windup PI controller is presented. This controller is simple for implementation in practice. The proposed anti-windup PI controller demonstrates better dynamic step changes response in speed in terms of overshoots. All simulation work was done using Simulink in the MATLAB software. The experimental results were obtained by practical implementation on a dSPACE 1104 board for a 1.5 KW induction machine. Simulation and experimental results have proven a good performance and verified the validity of the presented control strategy.

Abstract

The article presents a technique for experimental research of variable frequency drives experiencing periodic torque disturbances of variable frequency. The technique is based on the nonlinear transfer function of a link of an asynchronous electric motor, which forms an electromagnetic torque, proposed in previously published articles. The dependence of the transfer function on the frequency of the stator voltage and slip determines the research methodology. Experiments have shown the advantage of the dynamic characteristics of a drive with a positive feedback on the stator current over electric drives with traditional control methods (vector and scalar sensorless), and in terms of dynamic characteristics they also exceed drives with a vector control closed in motor speed. These advantages are retained when the frequency of change of the disturbing torque is changed from 0 to 5 Hz.

Abstract

This paper presents an analytical comparison between two-level inverter and three-level neutral point diode clamped inverters for electric vehicle traction purposes. The main objective of the research is to declare the main differences in the performance of the two inverter schemes in terms of the switching and conduction losses over an entire domain of the modulation index and the phase angle distribution, steady-state operation, transient operation at a wide range of speed variation, and the total harmonic distortion THD% of the line voltage output waveform. It also declares the analysis of the three-level neutral point diode clamped inverter (NPCI) obstacle and the unbalance of the DC-link capacitor voltages. The introduced scheme presents an Induction Motor (IM) drive for electric vehicle (EV) applications. Considering the dynamic operation of the EV, the speed of the three-phase induction motor is controlled using a scalar V/Hz control for the full range of the IM power factor (PF). A comprehensive MATLAB/Simulink model for the proposed scheme is established.

Abstract

This paper presents a photovoltaic (PV) based battery charger utilizing a wireless power transfer (WPT) interface system. The double-sided inductor-capacitor-capacitor (LCC) compensation network is utilized for the inductive power transfer (IPT) system. Because of nonlinear characteristics of the PV, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is achieved by controlling the phase displacement angle or the pulse width of the quasi-square pulse inverter connected to the transmitting coil of the IPT system. As a result, the power transferred to the secondary-side, which is connected to a battery bank, is regulated. The IPT-based PV interface system is designed to achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS) in the primary side at rated conditions to minimize the switching loss. Extensive simulation studies are carried out using EMTDC/PSCAD software to investigate the dynamic performance of the proposed IPT-based PV interface system.

Abstract

The aim of this research is the speed tracking of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using an intelligent Neural-Network based adapative backstepping control. First, the model of PMSM in the Park synchronous frame is derived. Then, the PMSM speed regulation is investigated using the classical method utilizing the field oriented control theory. Thereafter, a robust nonlinear controller employing an adaptive backstepping strategy is investigated in order to achieve a good performance tracking objective under motor parameters changing and external load torque application. In the final step, a neural network estimator is integrated with the adaptive controller to estimate the motor parameters values and the load disturbance value for enhancing the effectiveness of the adaptive backstepping controller. The robsutness of the presented control algorithm is demonstrated using simulation tests. The obtained results clearly demonstrate that the presented NN-adaptive control algorithm can provide good trackingperformances for the speed trackingin the presence of motor parameter variation and load application.

Abstract

The paper deals with faults diagnosis method proposed to detect the inter-turn and turn to earth short circuit in stator winding of three-phase high-speed solid rotor induction motors. This method based on negative sequence current of motor and fuzzy neural network algorithm. On the basis of analysis of 2-D electromagnet field in the solid rotor the rotor impedance has been derived to develop the solid rotor induction motor equivalent circuit. The motor equivalent circuit is simulated by MATLAB software to study and record the data for training and testing the proposed diagnosis method. The numerical results of proposed approach are evaluated using simulation of a three-phase high-speed solid-rotor induction motor of two-pole, 140 Hz. The results of simulation shows that the proposed diagnosis method is fast and efficient for detecting inter-turn and turn to earth faults in stator winding of high-speed solid-rotor induction motors with different faults conditions

Abstract

Due to its low cost and recycle-ability, the lead-acid battery is widely used in mobile and stationary applications. Despite much research on lead-acid batteries, the effect of charging voltage on the degradation mechanism requires further investigation. In particular, the origin of cycle life degradation remains unclear. In the present work, by using electrochemical tests and materials characterization, we studied the effect of charging voltage at voltages slightly higher than the open-circuit potential (OCP) i.e., 103-107% OCP, on the battery life cycle. The highest degradation was observed at 105% OCP charging voltage. Based on the materials characterization results, we found that the degradation of a lead-acid battery is influenced by the amount of hard sulfate and the sulfate particles' size.
