One drawback of PVs is their low efficiency. As the PVs have a unique maximum Power Point for a specified irradiation level, there must be an effective method for extracting maximum power from the PV module to raise the efficiency. Conventional Perturbation and Observation (P&O) is a simple algorithm for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) but it suffers from oscillation during steady state conditions and is deviated from the maximum power point during slow and rapid irradiation level change. This paper presents a modified P&O by adding variation in PV current as a third in addition to the voltage and power variation parameters. This new algorithm is capable of eliminating the MPPT deviation. To increase the perturbation speed, a double step is taken as the tracking is deviated from the MPP. The modified P&O algorithm is used to control the duty cycle of DC-DC buck converter. The simulation shows that the modified P&O is faster than the conventional. The power loss due to oscillation before attaining the steady state is less for modified P&O. For slow irradiation level change (ramp up 600 to 1000 and ramp down 1000-800) W/m2, the modified P&O shows less tracking diverge. As the irradiation level changes rapidly from 800 to 200 W/m2, it's shown that the modified algorithm attains the steady state faster than the conventional P&O and the average efficiency increased by 4.34%.

The queue length is an important parameter used by several companies of traffic management for quantitative analysis of traffic scene. In this paper, we propose a system to measure the queue length. The proposed system contains two principal operations for measuring the queue length the first operation is the motion detection, and the second one is the vehicle detection. The traffic scene is divided into a number of blocks, which have variable sizes based on the camera parameters and the distance between the camera and the position of the block. To minimize the execution time to accord the real-time application, we continuously apply the detection motion operation on the first block of the scene and the queue tail. The vehicle detection algorithm is based on the edge detection and the vehicle features extraction to improve the detection of vehicle and minimize the error of detection of the other things? edges (damaged of road, the mark of the road, the shadow of trees or building). The algorithm is applied to videos obtained by stationary camera. The obtained results demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the proposed system.

This paper proposes a Hybridized Symmetric Cascaded Multilevel Inverter for voltage levels ranging from 5 levels to 17 levels. The proposed Multi Level Inverter (MLI) topology is built using a modified H-bridge inverter that results in an increased output voltage levels with a smaller number of solid-state switches. This technique enhances the h-bridge configuration from three level to five level by means of a bi-directional switch at source. Gating pulses of hybridized symmetric MLI are generated through staircase modulation. The operation and performance of the proposed topology is tested for different output voltage levels, simulation results prove that the proposed technique results in less THD at all levels with lesser power consumption and are easily applicable for renewable energy applications.

In Smart Grid (SG) communication network, sensors integrated communication radios namely ZigBee, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth are becoming urgent and crucial part of SG wireless communication. Sensor nodes are generally battery powered. With the enhancement and huge utilization of sensor technologies, batteries have not been improved significantly at the same pace. However, batteries are essential to power the sensor nodes and there is no alternative of this energy bank. Therefore, to provide seamless power to the nodes is a challenge when the nodes are meant for integrating distributed renewable generations for years. Necessitate of the battery replacement is not often cost effective when the batteries are drained out. This paper presents a feasibility study of standalone Photovoltaic (PV) powered battery using Sensors-radios integrated Embedded Node (SEN) for SG application. In this study, we have analyzed charging characteristics of a lead-acid battery that can be recharged during day time by a PV module. The aim of this research is to testify the two simultaneous jobs- (i) the battery is sufficient to power Sensors-ZigBee integrated Arduino (SZA) for at least one day operation, (ii) scrutiny the optimal size of PV for recharging the battery considering three different day variations- average, cloudy, and full rainy day. The result from real data analysis reveals that the module is sufficient to recharge the battery on an average day; however, it is not sufficient for full cloudy or full rainy day. Finally, a mathematical model is obtained from regression analysis that shows battery internal resistance is exponential to voltage on both full cloudy and rainy day, but it is linear on average day.

This paper addresses to integrate an optimal Proportional-Integrator-Derivative controller for frequency regulation in an isolated microgrid power system based renewable generation. This autonomous microgrid system is composed of Distributed Energy Sources like wind, solar, Diesel Engine Generator, Fuel Cells system, and two different storage devices such as Battery Energy Storage System and Flywheel Energy Storage System. Optimal tuning of the investigated controller is considered as the main problem to be resolved using the Krill Herd algorithm through an objective function. The obtained results are also accomplished with and without the battery energy storage system. The comparison of system performance shows that the proposed control scheme based Krill Herd Algorithm is better than the Genetic Algorithm in the improvement of system performance.

The current paper aims at presenting and examining an implementation on a digital signal processor (DSP) of the conventional space vector pulse width modulation (CSVPWM) so as to control the dual three phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (DTP-PMSM) drives applied on electric ship propulsion. It is also an attempt to accomplish a developed control of this technique based on vector space decomposition (VSD) strategy. By this strategy, the analysis and the control of the machine are achieved in three two-dimensional orthogonal subspaces. Among the 12 voltage vectors having maximum, the conventional technique namely the adjacent two-vectors (12SA2V) is chosen. Thereby, the test platform allows the implementation of the chosen vectors which are modeled on MATLAB/Simulink using block diagrams and the automatically generated code which is targeted in the DSP card processor. Simulation and experimental results have exposed the efficiency of the proposed test bench of 5 KW prototype machine by using a low-cost TMS32F28379D.

This paper presented single DC bus single phase seven level cascaded H-bridge (CHB) inverter for multi-panel photovoltaic grid-connected applications. A single DC bus supplying flyback converters to produce DC link voltages for CHB cells is suggested. A balanced operation of CHB inverter cells is obtained irrespective to power unbalance occurred by individual maximum power point tracking boost converter of photovoltaic (PV) panels due to the non-uniform irradiation and partial shading. A DC bus voltage control system with addition of estimated DC bus ripple voltage to the reference is proposed to eliminate the second order harmonic contained in the feedback voltage of DC bus enabling to design high bandwidth of DC voltage control loop. This produces fast dynamic response, low total harmonic distortion (THD) of grid current and smaller DC bus capacitance. Mathematical modeling of bus voltage control system is presented. PSIM simulation program is used and the simulation results are obtained to validate the proposed control system.

This paper presents a novel single-stage Microinverter topology using only two-power switches. The number of components count are directly proportional to the power losses, weight, cost and complexity of the design. Nowadays, conventional Microinverter without transformer having minimum of six power switches, while only three power switches involved in a Microinverter structure with the presence of a transformer. Thus, this paper proposed a novel Microinverter topology with only two-power switches to convert DC-voltage from Photovoltaic (PV) module to an AC-output. Modes of operation and current flow during each cycle are being explained. Variation of modulation index, irradiance and temperature of the PV module, the switching frequency and harmonic content of the proposed Microinverter are being analysed. A simulated model of Microinverter topology, employed only two power switches with a standard Unipolar Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) having 0.85% harmonic percentage; able to inject current to the load; have been successfully built and demonstrated through simulation based on MATLAB/Simulink, thus provide theoretical validation for further research.
