Abstract

This study aims to identify leading sectors, analyze poverty conditions, and explain the relationship between the potential of leading sectors and poverty levels in the Mebidang area. The research method uses Location Quotient (LQ) analysis to determine the base sector, classify leading sectors into labor-intensive and capital-intensive categories, and comparative descriptive analysis to link regional economic structure with poverty variations. The poverty indicators used are the Headcount Index (P0), Poverty Gap Index (P1), and Poverty Severity Index (P2) based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The results show that Medan City is dominated by capital-intensive sectors such as finance, real estate, and corporate services, while Binjai and Deli Serdang are more supported by labor-intensive sectors such as trade, transportation, construction, and educational services. Further analysis shows that labor-intensive sectors contribute more to poverty reduction through labor absorption, while capital-intensive sectors drive economic growth but have less significant impact on reducing the number of poor people. Thus, the development strategy of the Mebidang area needs to be directed at strengthening labor-intensive sectors without ignoring the role of capital-intensive sectors so that economic growth is inclusive and effective in reducing poverty.

Abstract

Forest and land fires are a frequent disaster during the dry season in Kubu Raya Regency, caused by a combination of natural factors and human activities. Analysis of land cover changes in hazard areas is important to determine the dynamics that contribute to the increase in fire hazard. This study aims to: (1) map the spatial distribution of forest and land fire hazard areas, (2) analyze land cover changes in hazard areas, and (3) visualize the results using ArcGIS Dashboard. The forest and land fire hazard map generated through a weighted overlay of three parameters: land cover, soil type, and rainfall. Land cover was classified from Sentinel-2 imagery using the Random Forest algorithm, rainfall from kriging interpolation of CHIRPS data, and reclassified soil type. Land cover changes were obtained by detecting changes between 2019 and 2023, then overlaying with the forest and land fire hazard map. The results show that Kubu Raya Regency is dominated by moderate hazards covering an area of 431,743.79 ha, with an increase in land cover that influences the high hazard class being in shrubs of 58,619.01 ha and dry fields of 20,074.09 ha. The analysis results are presented in the ArcGIS Dashboard as a monitoring tool to support forest and land fire mitigation through maps, graphs, and indicators.

Abstract

The object of paddy field cover in Indonesia in high-resolution images is difficult to identify due to its unique characteristics and similarity to surrounding objects. This study aims to compare the performance of two Deep Learning architectures, UNet with ResNet34 backbone and SAMLoRA with ViT-B backbone, to perform segmentation using high-resolution images with accuracy down to the paddy field unit. Both models were trained using identical hyperparameters, with and without data augmentation, to evaluate accuracy and computational efficiency. The results show that SAMLoRA outperformed UNet across all evaluation metrics, achieving a higher mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of 0.7909 compared to 0.7568. Although SAMLoRA required a longer training time, it produced clearer and more interpretable segmentations, capturing complex details more effectively. In conclusion, both Deep Learning models offer a much faster and more effective alternative to manual digitization for mapping paddy fields.

Abstract

This study examines changes in coastlines and land use in Demak Regency, Central Java, from 2015 to 2025, utilizing Google Earth imagery and GIS-based spatial analysis. Two locations, Sayung and Wedung, were selected to represent differences in human-related (anthropogenic) impact. The methods employed included visual interpretation of images at multiple time points and the application of the Spatial Consistency Index (SCI), a measure of the stability or invariance of the coastline's physical features over time. The results show that Sayung experienced significant erosion from 2015 to 2020 but was relatively stable after mangrove rehabilitation (SCI = 0.0198, indicating high stability), while Wedung showed extreme coastline retreat (regression) and degradation of aquaculture ponds (SCI = 0.00516, indicating low stability). This approach, based on freely available data, is effective for long-term monitoring of coastal areas where conventional satellite data is limited.

Abstract

This study analyzes the economic-social synergy in Cakung and Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, from 2020 to 2025. The method employed is descriptive-analytical through a literature review (library research), processing secondary data from BPS, Bappeda, and previous academic journals. Findings indicate that economic growth in both areas is driven by the optimization of local revenue (PAD) and capital expenditure. Cakung excels in industrial recovery and HDI improvement, while Kramat Jati faces structural vulnerabilities due to urbanization and disaster risks. Although economic growth reduces unemployment, income inequality and social segregation challenges persist. It is concluded that inclusive policies are needed that combine environmental risk mitigation with strengthening social capital to ensure sustainable development.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the level of social vulnerability to disasters in Linggajati Village, which is located within the Pacific Ring of Fire—one of the regions with the highest disaster risk in the world due to intense tectonic activity. Indonesia’s geological conditions present not only the threat of earthquakes but also volcanic disasters that can significantly disrupt community life. In this context, the village demonstrates high socio-economic vulnerability, requiring an in-depth analysis to identify potential material and human-related damages in the event of a disaster. This research adopts a quantitative approach by analyzing several key parameters, including population density, gender ratio, poverty rate, disability ratio, and the proportion of vulnerable age groups. The social vulnerability index is calculated by assigning a 60% weight to population density and 10% to each of the other parameters. The data used comes from the 2023 Linggajati Village monograph, which includes information on population size, poverty levels, age group distribution, and disability characteristics. The results of this study are expected to provide a comprehensive overview of disaster risks and serve as a strategic foundation for enhancing local-level disaster response and mitigation capacity.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women remains a significant public health issue, especially in Central Java, Indonesia, where the prevalence is notably higher than the national average. This study aims to identify the local determinants of the high incidence of CED using Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR), a spatial regression approach that accounts for spatial heterogeneity in the relationships between variables. The research uses secondary data from the 2023 Village Development Index (IDI) to examine social and health indicators across Central Java. The findings highlight that access to adequate sanitation plays a significant role in CED incidence, with limited access to sanitation a key risk factor across all regions. This study provides valuable insights into the spatial variability of CED determinants, underscoring the need for targeted interventions that account for regional characteristics to reduce CED risks among pregnant women.

Abstract

This article analyzes the role of the nickel mining industry in Sulawesi within the globalization of the electric vehicle (EV) industry. The rapid growth of the global EV market has significantly increased demand for critical minerals, particularly nickel as a key component in lithium-ion batteries. Indonesia, as the world’s leading nickel producer, has become strategically positioned within the global value chain of the EV industry. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and literature review method, this study examines the relationship between global EV expansion, Indonesia’s nickel production growth, and the spatial concentration of mining and processing activities in Sulawesi. The findings indicate that Sulawesi plays a crucial role as an upstream supplier in the global production network. However, despite Indonesia’s dominance in nickel production, higher value-added activities remain concentrated in countries that control battery technology and advanced manufacturing. The study concludes that Indonesia’s integration into the global EV industry presents both opportunities for industrial upgrading and challenges related to technological dependence and global value chain hierarchy. Strengthening domestic processing capacity and sustainable resource governance is essential to enhance long-term national competitiveness
