Abstract

Natural disasters always threaten human life, but sometimes it may prosper people in the disaster area. For example, the earthquake in Aceh, it brought material aids and employment opportunities to Acehnese. However, the aid caused a social conflict due to the aids distribution deemed unfair. In this case, a village leader, as a central figure, demanded his expertise to prevent violence or damage. This research aims to analyze the village leader's roles as a safety valve in handling conflict of shelter aids for earthquake victims. This study was conducted with a qualitative approach that involved fifteen informants as the primary data source. They were the village's apparatus and earthquake victims. The results showed that the village leader as a safety valve, he formed a community group as a new safety valve and offered his people new hope beyond the demands. Thus, this study suggests that the safety valve model may be used to pause the conflict escalates into violent behavior, but not to settle the root causes of conflict. Nevertheless, it may create harmony if the solutions proposed are beyond the promise of voice. For the next researchers, the study suggests examining the effectiveness of hope or promise in conflict resolution for disaster aids management

Abstract

Stocks have the highest risk between other investment instruments, but with the right analysis, the high risk is proportional to the high return that can be obtained. Stock return analysis can be done using a basic approach, namely fundamental analysis and technical analysis. This study aims to examine the effect of the individual stock price index, past stock price, debt to equity ratio (DER), and net profit margin (NPM) in consumer goods industry companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange 2015-2018. This study uses multiple regression analysis models. The population of this study consisted of 60 companies, and the research sample consisted of 27 companies with 108 consumer goods industry companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange 2015-2018 periods. The results showed that individual stock price index, past stock price, DER, and NPM simultaneously have a significant effect on stock return. Partially individual stock price index and past stock prices have a significant effect on stock return. In contrast, DER and NPM have no significant effect on stock return in consumer goods industry companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the 2015-2018 periods.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is a phenomenon which related to the spread of coronavirus disease 2019. This pandemic that hit the entire world is increasing sharply, including in Indonesia. Several policies have been implemented, one of them is about regulations for doing the COVID-19 health protocols to respond this pandemic. This health protocols aim to ensure the public activities safely during this pandemic. Although these regulations have been implemented in Indonesia, the number of individuals who have been confirmed positive is growing rapidly. This rapid increase in positive cases can be caused by several things. One of them is due to the low obedience of the society towards health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on what has been described, this research aims to find out the reasons behind the low obedience of the society towards health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic by using the theory of the Health Belief Model. Based on the analysis using six components of Health Belief Model, the results of the low obedience of the society towards health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic are the perception of society about their low potential to be infected of coronavirus disease 2019 by thinking that the disease will appear just like common flu, society doesn’t really understand about the benefits of implementing health protocols, there are obstacles to get the health facilities, lack of government instructions in guiding society on how to act during the pandemic, and the low of society confidence that they are able to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia. Therefore, in the future, the government can improve on planning a better way to make society implementing the health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. So it can reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted various business sectors including the tourism sector. Hotel industry in Denpasar City has closed its business operations, laid off its employees and terminated their employees. This study was conducted to map the distribution of employees layoff at star hotels in Denpasar City and formulate strategies for star hotels to reduce employee layoff rate due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Eight (8) star hotels in Denpasar City were used as samples based on the data released by Bali Province Manpower and Energy Office in 2020. Questionnaires were distributed to collect data from October to December 2020. This study employed a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods in the forms of qualitative descriptive analysis approach, SWOT analysis and QSPM. The results showed that the largest number of layoffs occurred in the 3-star hotel cluster with an average layoff of 32 percent. Market penetration through optimization of information technology-based promotion tools (IT) is proposed as the main strategy to overcome the problem. The results of this study are expected to provide overviews and recommendations for hotel management in applying this strategy more effectively through professional communication and resource management in order to avoid employee layoffs.

Abstract

This paper examines the roles played by women in the maintenance and sustenance of a peaceful society through the development of informal socio-economic institutions in colonial Uzairue land. It notes that the roles played by women in this regard have not received adequate scholarly attention. It further explores a socio-political overview of colonial Uzairue land, women in Uzairue worldview, and gender (women) theories, stereotypes and roles in Uzairue land. It uses the qualitative historical method which is narrative, descriptive and analytical. The data used for this research were derived from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data were derived from oral interviews through oral discussions and interactions (by this researcher), with selected interviewees during fieldwork in Uzairue land. The secondary data were obtained from relevant published materials including books and journal articles. This research examines the role of women in Uzairue land in the provision of a peaceful society, and the encouragement of socio-economic progress, through the provision of health care services, occupational and economic ventures. It views the concept of peace-building as efforts, techniques and approaches aimed at preventing conflicts, achieving durable peace, and stabilizing society politically and socio-economically. This study concludes that the instinctive roles of women as caregivers, comforters, peacemakers, and home keepers, and their respective participation and specialization in the provision of health care services, among other socio-economic ventures, undoubtedly encouraged the mutual and peaceful development of colonial Uzairue land. It demonstrates therefore that women are intrinsically linked with the peace-building process and overall development of society, and that they should be accorded high regards even in the contemporary period.
