Abstract

ABSTRAK Kemampuan siswa kelas X SMA N 3 Bukittinggi dalam menulis tergolong masih rendah. Hal tersebut dilihat dari analisis nilai siswa dari tiga rater. Rendahnya nilai siswa dalam menulis disebabkan karena kurang nya pengetahuan siswa terhadap aspek –aspek yang perlu diperhatikan dalam menulis seperti compenent, organization, vocabulary, language use, mechanic. Dalam kesempatan ini penulis menganalisis nilai siswa melalui naratif teks. Penelitian ini berteujuan unutuk mengetahui sejauh mana siswa memahami setiap aspek penulisan sehingga siswa mendapatkan nilai yang jauh lebih memuaskan untuk penulisan selanjutnya, setelah mngetahui kamampuan siswa dan guru bisa melihat dibagian asapek mana yang perlu ditingkatkan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif, populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas  X IPS yang berjumlah 147 orang dan sample dari penelitian ini sebanyak 23 orang. Pengumpulan data diambil dari tes menulis teks naratif. Data dari penelitian ini berupa nilai writing test siswa dari kelompok sampel. Ditemukan hasil penelitian ini mengemukakan nilai yang didapatkan oleh siwa dalam aspek content sebanyak 68,79 dengan kualifikasi baik. Organization sebanyak 78,04 dengan kualifikasi baik, vocabulary sebanyak 76,73 dengan kualifikasi baik, language use sebanyak 62,08 dengan kualifikasi rata-rata sedangkan  mechanic 50,43 dengan kualifikasi rendah.   Kata Kunci:  Kemapuan menulis, narrative text.

Abstract

 This paper describes the use of ELC Study Zone Website in teaching reading. The purpose of this paper is explaining how to use ELC Study Zone Website in increasing the ability and motivation of senior high school students in teaching reading. The main problem that students faces get diffulties in teaching reading low motivation of students in learning reading. As a teacher, they have to find some strategies or activities to solve this problem. One of the activities is using ELC Study Zone Website. ELC Study Zone Website is an educational website which serves a lot of materials, resources for English language such as, topics, reading text, interactive exercise, and some videos and audio to support in learning. It could make the students more understand, because all of the materials come from the native speaker. By the warm situations that have been created when using ELC Study Zone Website in teaching reading, the students could remove their shyness in reading and will be motivated to read in the learning process.

Abstract

Writing is a process that allows students to elaborate their ideas and background knowledge creatively through written expression. In the 2013 curriculum, several text genres learned by Senior High School Students are divided into two parts. Those are functional text and monolog text. One of them is procedure text which belongs to a monologue text. However, there are some problems faced by students in writing procedure text. They are not able to organize their idea, do not understand the generic structure and language feature of the procedure text, not able to write an assignment and get distracted easily during writing task and the students also have other problems such as lack of vocabulary and find difficulty with sentence structure and word order. The other problems also come from the teacher itself. In order to help the students in writing a procedure text, the teachers should prepare a new method which creates the different learning style in the classroom. Moreover, the method given should be appropriate and effective for the students. In this case, guiding question technique is the appropriate applied in teaching writing procedure text. This technique presents the interesting way in the process of learning.

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat komponen-komponen yang paling berpengaruh terhadap kecemasan siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris dan juga sumber-sumber kecemasan siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris di SMAN 7 Padang. Data dari penelitian ini adalah angket dan wawancara. Sumber data penelitian ini ialah 2 kelas X; X9 dan X10, 2 kelas XI; XI IPS 1 dan XI IPA 4, dan 2 kelas XII; XII IPA 1 dan XII IPS 1. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komponen yang paling berpengaruh terhadap kecemasan siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris adalah ketakutan terhadap penilaian negative orang lain, diikuti dengan kecemasan dalam berkomunikasi, kecemasan terhadap ujian, dan yang terakhir adalah kecemasan berada di dalam kelas bahasa Inggris. Melalui interview didapatkan bahwa siswa merasa sumber kecemasan mereka adalah karena faktor mereka sendiri, keyakinan diri mereka yang merasa bahwa bahasa Inggris sulit, koreksi langsung dari guru, kegiatan kelas yaitu berbicara, dan ujian bahasa Inggris.Key words: English, language, anxiety

Abstract

Most of people like technology, especially for children even we life in needing technology the most era. Most of children think that study is the most boring thing. Demanded by the reason above, by using technology can enhance students’ interest to study. One of the appropriate technology is e-learning, using Eliademy. By using Eliademy, can also enhance students’ interest and ability in English. In using Eliademy as e-learning media only need personal computer and internet connection. Teacher and student have different account with different goal. Teacher prepares the course and the tasks that will be done by students. The students do the activity that is commanded by teacher. Students are demanded to read to complete the tasks. Students can also do discussion and seminar in some menus which are available in Eliademy.

Abstract

This article describes how to teach writing a descriptive text about someone by using the CSW (Catch, Speak and Write) game for Senior High School students of the tenth grade. The CSW (Catch, speak, and Write) game is one of games that invites students to play while learning. The CSW game or Catch, Speak and Write game, is a game that uses picture and chocolate as the media. By using the CSW game, students will play while learning by answering a few questions through a picture with chocolate as a media that will be thrown and caught by the student before the student answer the questions. By using the CSW game in teaching and learning process, the teacher’s role is very important to make the students more active and enthusiastic in learning so that the students’ difficulties in writing will be easier with a comfortable atmosphere. Abstrak Artikel ini menjelaskan bagaimana cara mengajarkan menulis descriptive text tentang seseorang dengan menggunakan the CSW (Catch, Speak and Write) game untuk siswa SMA kelas X. The CSW (Catch, speak, and Write) game adalah salah satu permainan yang mengajak siswa bermain sambil belajar. The CSW game atau Catch, Speak and Write game, adalah suatu permainan yang menggunakan chocolate dan gambar sebagai media pendukung. Di dalam the CSW Game siswa akan bermain sambil belajar dengan menjawab beberapa pertanyaan melalui sebuah gambar yang didukung dengan media chocolate yang akan dilempar dan ditangkap siswa sebelum siswa tersebut menjawab pertanyaan. Di dalam Penggunaan the CSW game guru sangat berperan penting untuk membuat siswa lebih aktif dan bersemangat dalam belajar sehingga kesulitan siswa dalam menulis terasa lebih mudah dengan suasana yang lebih nyaman.

Abstract

This research was a descriptive research that aimed to identify the tests developed by senior high school English teachers in Padang using High Order Thinking Skills criteria. This study also aimed to determine the mostly-used criteria of HOTS in the tests. The sample in this study were mid semester tests and semester tests developed by English teachers from MGMP Bahasa Inggris SMA kota Padang. The tests used in this study were from grade XI of 2016/2017. Each test had two packages (A and B). This study used instrument in the form of indicators from HOTS criteria and Bloom’s HOTS criteria.               From the result of the tests developed by senior high school English teachers of Padang using the criteria of Higher Order Thinking Skills, it showed that the tests developed had used the HOTS criteria. As a result of the analysis of the two tests, 30% of High Order Thinking Skills questions were found in the tests. The result of this research also found that the mostly-used HOTS criteria in the tests are Creating and Deduction. The Knowledge dimensions found in the tests are Conceptual Knowledge, Procedural Knowledge, and Metacognitive Knowledge.

Abstract

This research was a descriptive research that aimed to analyze the reading comprehension questions in English textbook by using Higher Order Thinking Skill. The data used in this research is reading comprehension questions of English textbook grade X, XI, and XII which is used in SMAN Kota Padang. There are four schools to be inspected and the writer found 10 English textbooks. This study used instrument in the form of indicators from HOTS criteria and Bloom’s Taxonomy Revision criteria. From the result of the reading comprehension question in English textbook by using Higher Order Thinking Skill at SMAN Kota padang, it showed that the reading comprehension questions had used the HOTS criteria. As a result of the analysis in reading comprehension questions, 425 questions (23,09%) Higher Order Thinking Skill questions were found in the reading comprehension questions in 10 English textbooks. The result of this research also found that mostly-used HOTS criteria in the reading comprehension questions is evaluating category.

Abstract

AbstrakPenggunaan subtitle berbahasa Indonesia tidak effektif jika digunakan sebagai media untuk mengasah kemampuan Bahasa Inggris siswa karena mereka akan dengan mudah mengerti kalimat-kalimat yang diucapkan oleh paratokoh film animasi yang ditonton tanpa memperhatikan lagi aspek Bahasa Inggris yang didengar. Karena lemahnya kemampuan mendengarkan siswa Indonesia, penulis mengganti penggunaan subtitle berbahasa Indonesia menjadi subtitle berbahasa Inggris, sehingga membantu mereka melihat apa yang tertulis dari apa yang mereka dengar ketika menonton. Diharapkan dengan mendengarkan pengucapan sambil membaca tulisan dalam film animasi akan mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara mereka setelah itu. Maka, dalam makalah ini penulis akan menjabarkan mengenai pengembangan English subtitle pada film animasi untuk membantu guru-guru menjadikannya sebagai media dalam mengasah kemampuan Bahasa Inggris khususnya pada aspek berbicara.Key words: English subtitle, Animation movies, Media, Teaching speaking

Abstract

Penelitian dalam makalah ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa kelas 10 MAN 2 Padang dalam penggunaan bentuk lampau pada teks recount secara oral. Hasil Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu Guru Bahasa Inggris dalam melihat kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan bentuk lampau secara oral sehingga dapat meningkatkan proses pembelajaran. Pada penelitian ini, penulis meminta siswa untuk bercerita dalam kurun waktu 5 menit, kemudian merekam untuk mendapatkan data. Dari rekaman tersebut, penulis mentraskripkan data dan melakukan analisis terhadap kemampuan siswa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, diketahui bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan bentuk lampau masih tergolong sangat rendah.
