Abstract

Office workers are a form of work that is at high risk of experiencing complaints or musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the most common MSDs problems, many workers experience symptoms of lower back pain while working. LBP disorders have various risk factors, including individual, occupational, and environmental factors. Several employees of PT. JIEP feels pain in the back to the buttocks. These complaints can cause movement and daily activities to be disrupted. This study aims to determine the correlation between age and length of work on LBP complaints among PT. JIEP using the Multiple Linear Regression. Data was obtained by distributing questionnaires to employees of PT. JIEP has 35 people aged 21-30 who work in the HSE, Legal, HCM, IT, Maintenance, and Finance departments. The results of analysis show that the age variable (X1) has no partial relationship to LBP complaints (Y). Whereas in the length of work variable (X2) there is no partial relationship to variable Y. F test states that the variables X1 and X2 together have no relationship with the variable Y which is shown in the F test with a Fcount value of 0.734 <Ftable 3.29. Based on the value of R2 = 0.044, it is known that age and length of work affect LBP complaints by 4.4%. From the results of the questionnaire identifying the factors that cause LBP complaints, it is known that there are two factors, namely work body posture (54.3%) and psychology (45.7%).

Abstract

White crystal sugar is one of the plantation commodities that is widely produced because it is widely consumed by the people of Indonesia. White crystalline sugar at Sugar X Factory is made from sugarcane sap which has gone through the refining stage into clear sap and then concentrated using an evaporator to become thick sap, where thick sap will become white crystalline sugar after crystallization. In the process of converting clear sap into viscous sap, it requires quite a lot of steam in the evaporator, causing the used steam in the Sugar Factory to be consumed more by the Evaporation Station. In fact, in the Sugar X factory, many steam has not been able to thicken the clear sap to the maximum due to the considerable workload. This is because the incoming temperature is very low, so the temperature must be raised in order to reach the flash point to evaporate. A direct contact heat exchanger equipment needs to be installed before entering the evaporator at the Evaporation Station of the X Sugar Factory. The purpose of this research is to obtain a direct contact heat exchanger or DCHE design which will then be installed at the X Sugar Factory Evaporation Station. To obtain the desired direct contact heat exchanger design, actual data, literature data, and assumption data are needed. Based on calculations, this DCHE has an outer diameter of 1,062 meters with a height of 8,628 meters. Based on calculations, this DCHE has an outer diameter of 1,062 meters with a height of 8,628 meters. After calculation, it was found that this tool can save used steam consumption as much as 14,467 tons / hour and can increase the capacity of the tool from 5,622 TCD to 6,371 TCD, so that this equipment is considered feasible in terms of economy and use for use as a preheater before entering the evaporator of the Evaporation Station.

Abstract

This research aims to comprehend the air quality in rooftop areas in the city of DKI Jakarta, renowned for its high population density and rapid infrastructure development. The main focus is on the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the roof area, serving as an indicator of air quality influenced by air pollution, industrial activity, and heavy transportation. The utilization of Internet of Things (IoT) technology and CO2 sensors proves to be an effective solution for real-time monitoring of CO2 concentrations. This research holds significance for air pollution control measures, providing insight into the impact of rooftop gardens in reducing CO2 emissions and inspiring future research in the realms of air quality and IoT technology. Through prior literature, three notable studies underscore the industrial and technological impact of CO2 monitoring. The research was conducted in two locations in DKI Jakarta, namely the Garden Roof and Ordinary Roof areas. Monitoring took place over four parts of the day with a four-hour interval to compare CO2 levels. The tools employed included the NodeMCU ESP8266, DHT-22 sensor, and MQ-135 sensor. Results revealed that roof areas with gardens exhibited lower average CO2 levels (295 PPM) compared to regular roofs (360 PPM), indicating the potential of garden roof designs to reduce CO2 concentrations. Research recommendations include increasing the frequency of data collection and considering additional factors for a more comprehensive understanding of urban air quality.

Abstract

One of the drawbacks of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) biodiesel is that it has a high pour point which causes disadvantages in its use. The objective of this research was to obtain biodiesel of low pour point by mixing CPO biodiesel with Candlenut biodiesel with various ratios among them. In this research, the effect of biodiesel composition, and the type of biodiesel in the mixture were evaluated in order to obtain the best combination of the biodiesel in the mixture. The influence of polyunsaturated such as linolenic derived from candlenut oil was also evaluated. The result of the research showed that when the amount of the Candlenut biodiesel increased in the mixture the pour point decreased. When the ratio between CPO and Candlenut biodiesel was 80:20, the product had an optimal pour point of – C. In fact, .the number of double bonds present in linolenic acid had a more significant effect on the quality of biodiesel produced than the length of the fatty acid chain.

Abstract

Agro-industrial waste in Indonesia is a significant problem for the environment. Optimization of agro-industrial waste utilization is an exciting thing to be researched further. This study aims to utilize agro-industrial waste to optimize laccase enzyme production. The agro-industrial waste used is in the form of bagasse, rice straw, and corn stalks. The waste is used as biomass and treated to extract cellulose through bio-delignification. Cellulose serves as a substrate substance in the production of laccase enzymes. Laccase enzymes can be applied as a biocatalyst in the environmental, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. Cellulose from agroindustry waste was synthesized by heat treatment using steam explosion with the operation conditions 200°C and 10 bar for 10 minutes. The production of laccase enzymes was done using the green technology submerged fermentation method for 32 hours at 25°C. The optimal result in producing laccase enzyme is using substrate from corn stalks and adding nutrients with an activity value of 25.46 U/mL. The reaction kinetics of laccase enzyme and commercial enzyme against 0.1 M substrate were modelled using the Euler method, and the k value was 2x10-4 min-1 (crude laccase) and 1.9x10-2 min-1 (commercial laccase).

Abstract

One tool that can help eliminate waste is the lean assessment matrix (LAM). LAM is used to reduce waste by calculating the weight of the relationship between waste to obtain waste priorities. Waste prioritization considers assessment of severity, occurrence, interrelationships between waste and impact value. In the previous assessment matrix, calculating the weight of waste relationship values used the Waste Relationship Matrix (WRM) method, but the drawback of this tool was that the number of questions used was too many and the value conversion did not have a standard so it did not make it easy for respondents or human experts to measure the relationship between waste. So, in this research, Waste Assessment Waste Type Weight was developed by integrating the Decision Making Trial And Evaluation. Laboratory (DEMATEL) into LAM. Implementation of the Lean Assessment Matrix modification in the case study resulted in a priority rank of waste, namely Defect waste (W3, W2, W4) and Overprocessing waste (W16 and W15). The results of the LAM tool modifications carried out can help companies determine critical waste more easily and in line with company strategy.

Abstract

Passive design is a way to save energy through the passive use of solar energy, that is, without converting solar energy into electrical energy. the passive design relies more on the ability of engineers how the design of the building itself can "anticipate" external climate problems. In Indonesia as a tropical region, cooling systems and lighting systems are the largest contributors to building energy consumption, accounting for 24.7% and 16% respectively of the total building energy consumption. The purpose of this research is to do storage modeling using the passive energy method. The procedure is carried out with a combination of energy calculations around storage and CAD. CAD software is used to create 3D solid surface drawings and shapes. Then draw several options for the air openings that will be used. The results showed that based on the month of observation, the value of heat energy that occurred in the storage of dry harvested grain and rice with passive energy buildings was lower and heat energy was higher in June. Therefore, the solution for choosing the type of opening in January is required an opening percentage of 25% and for June, an opening with a percentage of 50% is required).

Abstract

Medical waste, as one of the hazardous waste, must be managed properly to avoid significant negative effects to the environment. Medical waste management overall involves reduction, storage, transportation, processing and disposal of waste. Hospital X, as a generator of medical waste, is responsible to implement reduction and storage of medical waste. This article aims to do deep evaluate the medical waste management of Hospital X, especially in terms of packaging and waste storage where this kind of evaluation has not been implemented yet in previous reseearch. This study includes as descriptive research which conducted data collection technique through observation and interview with manager of health and safety environment and also the cleaning service of Hospital X. Primary data includes medical waste management of Hospitall X which will be evaluated descriptively its compatibility based on Law of Minister of Environmental Republik Indonesia 56/2015. The evaluation results that medical waste packaging procedures comply with requirements of Minister of Environment Regulation 56/2015. However, medical waste storage evaluation reveals two things that do not comply with the regulation: (1) location of storage area is prone to flooding and (2) storage room has insufficient lighting. Hospital X needs to do some mitigation such expand drainage for water storage, redesign storage area and add lights to the storage room. Medical waste management of Hospital X are continuously being improved. This shown from interview result with personal who handling medical waste and environmental health manager of hospital. The result indicating that training and monitoring-evaluation is held routinely in Hospital X.
