Abstract

ABSTRAK Mandalasari, Merina. 2018. “Compliment Strategy and Topics based onGender Differences by Indonesian Idol Judges 2018 Makalah. Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris Fakultasa Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Padang   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk strategi  dan topik pujian yang digunakan oleh juri laki-laki dan perempuan di  Indonesia Idol 2018‟. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Data dari penelitian ini adalah pujian dari para juri “Indonesia Idol 2018‟ yang bisa dilihat dari transkrip dialog. Jumlah pujian yang ditemukan dalam acara tersebut adalah sebanyak 152 data. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk pujian yang digunakan oleh juri laki-laki dan juri perempuan cenderung sama, yaitu pujian dengan fokus pada orang pertama dan kedua. Hal ini disebabkan oleh objek pujian yang sama yaitu para finalist yang menampilkan keahlian mereka dalam bernyanyi. Selanjutnya topik pujian yang paling sering digunakan oleh juri laki-laki dan perempuan dalam acara ini adalah mengenai keahlian, tapi dilihat dari persentase topik pujian mengenai penampilan, dalam acara ini ditemukan bahwa topik mengenai pertunjukan di atas panggung lebih sering digunakan oleh juri perempuan. Keywords: pujian, bentuk pujian, keahlian, dan pertunjukan .

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of Borderline Personality Disordere which is represented by the main character and to know the contribution of the plot, setting, and character in revealing the Borderline Personality Disorder. This analysis is related to the concept neurosis by Freud that is supported by the text-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the main character has Borderline Personality Disorder that can be seen from the main character’s inappropriate emotional reactions and highly self-destructive behaviors.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui unsur-unsur dari struktur percakapan yang terjadi antara customer service dan pelanggan di Bank Kesejahteraan padang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Data penelitian ini adalah percakapan antara customer service dan pelanggan di Bank Kesejahteraan Padang yang berjumlah 20 percakapan. 20 percakapan tersebut terdiri dari empat percakapan membuat buku tabungan, tujuh percakapan tentang keluhan, lima percakapan menganti buku tabungan dan empat percakapan mengganti pin ATM. Data ini dianalisis berdasarkan teori Nanthakanok (2013). Temuan ini menunjukan bahwa struktur percakapan dapat dibagi menjadi tiga bagian, yaitu pembuka (opening), isi (body) dan penutup (closing). Di dalam pembuka terdapat dua unsur, yaitu 1) sambutan atau sapaan (greeting) dan 2) bertanya (asking question), di bagian isi juga terdapat dua unsur, yaitu 1) menyatakan tujuan berkunjung atau datang (stating the purpose of visiting) dan 2) menjelaskan dan mengambarkan proses dan prosedurnya (explaining and describing the process and procedure) dan di bagian penutup terdapat dua unsur, yaitu 1) membuat janji untuk pertemuan selanjutnya (making an appointment for the next meeting) dan 2) mengucapkan terima kasih (saying Thanking). Di samping itu, temuan ini juga menunjukan bahwa ungkapan yang digunakan peserta dalam percakapan tersebut adalah formal seperti selamat pagi (good morning), selamat siang (good afternoon), ada yang bisa saya bantu (can I help you), terima kasih (thank you) dan terima kasih sudah datang (thank you for the visiting).  Dengan demikian percakapan antara customer service dan pelanggan di Bank Kesejateraan padang terstruktur karena hampir semua percakapan memiliki unsur-unsur yang sama.

Abstract

In the study of language, what people do by saying something is called speech acts. Speech acts is not only found in everyday life but also in the film. This research concerns with speech acts produced by the main character in Shrek movie script. The aims of this research are to describe the types of speech acts are produced by the characters in animated of western movie entitled “Tangled”. Data of this research in the form of utterances that involved illocutionary acts used by each character in that movie which is taken from YouTube then classify them into categories of illocutionary acts based on Searle’s of theory.  The types of research in this study are qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative research is applied to analyze the data in the form of the text. Quantitative research is used to count the member of speech acts used by the characters in that movie to conclude which types of speech acts is dominantly used. Based on data analysis, found that there are four of illocutionary acts found in that movie; directives, representatives, expressives, and commissives. This study shows that the dominant speech acts used is directives which 44% of percentage. It indicates that the characters of the movie “Tangled” use directives because some of them want the other character to do something.

Abstract

This study examines the types of persuasive strategies used by Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) and insurance agents in influenced target costumers. The purpose of this study besides to find out the types of persuasive strategies used by MLM and insurance agents also to find out the differences and the similarities of the types of persuasive strategies used by the agents. This study is a descriptive qualitative method because it explains and compares the types of persuasive strategies used by MLM and insurance agents to see the differences and similarities. The result of the study shows that (1) the types of persuasive strategies that mostly used by MLM and insurance agents are Logic and Evidence (2) the highest component used by MLM agents is Specific Evidence; however, insurance agents used Credible Evidence.

Abstract

Compliment is a form of positive speech that is intended as a form to respect or appreciate something. In giving compliment a person has a certain options. This paper investigated the compliment strategies employed by male and female in social media interaction. This research is categorized as documentaries studysince the object of this research was in form of documentation of compliment use in column comment of Facebook.This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods. Finding showed that in different gender, male give more explicit compliment (94.4%) than female (93.3%). For the second strategy of compliment (implicit compliment), female tend to use implicit compliment (6.7%) than male (3.7%). In the last strategy of compliment (non-compliment), male prefer to use that strategy 1 time (1.8%) but female choose not to use non-compliment. In the same gender, female give more explicit compliment (1.8%) than male (0%). However, female also use implicit compliment 1 time but male get zero. For non-compliment strategy, male and female choose not to use that strategy in giving compliment.

Abstract

Word formation is the process of creating new words based on the word itself, or the other words. It means the new words can be created by shortens the words itself, combining them to the other words, add affixes to give grammatical information, etc. The aim of this study is to know the types of word formation used in a literary work, in this case, a novel. The object of this study is the 16th chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone written by J. K. Rowling. Type of this study is descriptive. The data were analyzed by using O’Grady & Archibald theory about word formation. The result shows that there were 340 words with the frequency 755 times have word formation process. Inflection (64.1%) becomes the most frequently used, and compounding (4.5%) becomes the less frequently used.

Abstract

This article discuss about Word formation that conceived of as the process by which words are brought into existence. This suggests that words do not exist in a vacuum; they are usually composed. This research examines autistic child in SLB Padang as a participant in conversation activity who use word formation process when communicate with other. Conversation activity was used to collect data about word formation process used by autistic child and also qualitative and descriptive method to describe and explain the processes of word formation used by autistic child. the aim of this paper to discover the word formation process used by autistic child  when communicating with people especially when the teacher in the teaching and learning process in schools. From a linguistic point, an autistic child is a child who has limitations in the areas of socialization and communication. The processes of word formation were analyzed by morphological studies. The formation processes of autistic children found word in a conversation with the teacher, namely: derivation, reduplication, acronym and initialism, borrowing, clipping, compounding and blending. From the data analysis found that the dominant word formation process used autistic child is a derivation. The data used was conversation between teacher and autistic child were recorded and transcribed when the process of teaching and learning in class. The collected data are grouped based on the process of forming words.

Abstract

This research investigates the comparison between Batusangkar sub-dialect and Lintau Buo sub-dialect, which focuses on phonetic and phonological aspects. The aim of this study is to identify the types of sound changes that occur between two sub-dialects in the same language from phonetic and phonological aspects. This research used a descriptive method. The researcher used elicitation techniques in conducting interviews to collect data from each informant. The results of this study indicate that there are 13 sound changes, which are divided into 5 vowel changes, that are [a] to [əʊ], [ɪ], [ə], and [ɑ:] to [ɔ:]. Then, 4 consonant changes, that are [k] to [ɳ], [r] to [w] and [ɰ], and [t] to [m], and 4 diphthong changes, that are [ɪa] to [ɪə] and [ɪʊ], [ʊa] to [ʊə] and [ʊ]. In addition, there are sound changes caused by phonological processes; assimilation, dissimilation, insertion, and deletion. Furthermore, there are several words that have full vocabulary changes. The results show that the pronunciation between the two sub-dialects is different. The significant changes occurred when the word in sound [a] in Batusangkar sub-dialect is changes to [o] in Lintau Buo sub-dialect and the word, which have a phonological process that is deletion.

Abstract

This research is rooted in a number of language phenomena that occur in society. The phenomena can be categorized into word shifts. The word shift occurs because of age shifts, status differences and so forth. The contents of the word will be grouped into the type and cause of the word changes in this paper. The method used is descriptive research method. The data source of this research is the young generation and the older generation in Aripan, Solok. To obtain accurate data, the process was conducted by interviewing 10 informants consisting of 5 young people and 5 older generations. From the results of the discussion, the authors found 3 types of changes that occur in these words, namely lexical change (95), sound change (4), and lexical and semantic change (1). In addition, from the discussion also found 2 factors causing the change in the words, namely language contact and spelling pronunciation.
