The research sample uses 28 foreign exchange banks in Indonesia in the 2014-2017 period which are divided into politically connected and politically unconnected banks. The results show that politically connected banks have cheaper funding costs and better performance than banks that are not politically connected. The implication of this research for banking institutions is that political connections are an advantage that can be used to obtain funds from the public at a lower cost and will be able to improve bank performance.

Abstract

Lake Toba is the biggest and deepest volcanic lake in South-East Asia, located in Parapat, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. It is the tourism icon in Indonesia andrecommended to be one of the Global Geopark Network (GGN) tourism icons established by UNESCO. The tourists visiting this destination are still as not many as other tourism destinations in Indonesia. Many factors cause such condition. Hotel’s hospitality service, which is an important role for tourism convenience, is not at its maximum quality. Therefore, the domestic and foreign tourists have not been able to thoroughly enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba. The low quality of services may be caused by the less effective of the recruitment system, career development, and compensation systems which result in the diseffectiveness of employees work. The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact of how recruitment system and career development on the enhancing of effectiveness in working through compensation as the intervening variable. The research is carried out at Niagara Hotel Parapat. The population of this study is 174 Niagara Hotel Parapat’s employees and 64 of them are selected as samples for this research. The method used in this research is Path Analysis. The result shows that recruitment system and career development (test-F) have significant positive influence over compensation. There is a significant positive influence between recruitment over compensation, but there is no significant influence between the career developments toward compensation. It causes career development possibility at Niagara Hotel to be too short and the compensation system to still be under the province minimum wage. Recruitment system, career development, and compensation affect positively and significantly to the effectiveness in working. There are significant positive influences among recruitment system, career development, and compensation with respect to the effectiveness of the employees work at Niagara Hotel Parapat. Recruitment is a dominant variable which influences more to work effectiveness rather than to career development, directly or indirectly through compensation. The research also shows that compensation is an intervening variable for recruitment system but not for career development.

Abstract

In the era of rapid technological advancement, the conventional use of smartphones has undergone a transformative paradigm shift. The presence of Apple's iPhone has become a significant entity surpassing mere communication functions. This research explores the dynamics linking social comparison, peer pressure, consumer innovativeness, and user satisfaction in the context of iPhone usage. Engaging 319 iPhone users in Indonesia through a comprehensive online survey, data was collected, and 150 respondents met the specified criteria. The study employs Partial Least Squares analysis using the SmartPLS4 software. Empirical findings reveal a positive correlation between social comparison and peer pressure, exerting a substantial influence on consumer innovativeness. Interestingly, social comparison also has a positive impact on consumer happiness. However, the research finds that while peer pressure significantly contributes to consumer innovativeness, it does not affect consumer happiness. This investigation underscores the crucial role of social comparison and peer pressure in shaping consumer innovativeness and happiness. The study elucidates the complex interaction between psychological and social factors. By understanding the desire to differentiate oneself and seek social acceptance, this research enhances our understanding of consumer decision-making in iPhone usage, facilitating diverse perspectives on technology as a crucial element in social identity construction.

Abstract

This study aims to ascertain the impact of capital structure, liquidity, and profitability on firm value, with firm size serving as a moderating variable. The study population is comprised of healthcare companies that are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the period between 2020 to 2022. The research design employed in this study was that of causal research. The sampling technique employed was that of purposive sampling. This method resulted in the acquisition of 14 companies meeting the specified criteria from a total of 19 companies observed over a three-year period. The total sample size was 42 samples. The statistical analysis employed in this research is multiple linear regression, coupled with moderated regression analysis (MRA). The results show that profitability affects firm value, while capital structure and liquidity have no effect on firm value. Firm size also cannot moderate capital structure, liquidity and profitability on firm value. The implication is that companies can increase their value by focusing on increasing profitability. This can be achieved through good financial management, efficient cash flow management, and maintaining healthy debt levels.

Abstract

Banks in carrying out the intermediation function require additional capital. Therefore, part of the bank's ownership is sold to the public in the form of shares and debt securities. Firm value is one of the indicators for investors in assessing the performance of a company. The aims of this study are: 1) To determine the factors that influence the value of Indonesian banking companies. These factors are capital structure, efficiency and size of the bank. 2) To find out that profitability moderates the value of Indonesian banking companies. This research uses quantitative verification research. The research analysis technique with moderate variables uses the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) model. Using secondary data from the financial statements of each bank. The financial reports are downloaded through the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) website. Processing data using the e-Views 11 application. The results of this study show that the capital structure and the size of the bank have a significant positive impact on corporate value. If a bank is inefficient, it will not have a significant impact on corporate value. Profitability as a mitigation variable cannot amplify the impact of capital structure, efficiency, or bank size on corporate value.
