Abstract

The rapid advancement of information and communication technology has significantly increased social media usage, particularly among adolescents. Social media offers various benefits, including facilitating social interaction, expanding access to information, and providing a platform for self-expression. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social media use and adolescent sexual behavior at SMAN 1 Tebing Syahbandar, Serdang Bedagai Regency, in 2026.This research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved 231 students aged 15–18 years. Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis to describe the distribution of variables, bivariate analysis with the Chi-square test to assess associations between variables, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression to identify the most influential factors affecting adolescent sexual behavior. The findings revealed that 208 respondents (90.0%) were categorized as having high-risk sexual behavior. The bivariate analysis indicated that the duration of social media use was not statistically associated with adolescent sexual behavior (p = 0.434). However, frequency of use (p = 0.006), intensity of use (p = 0.000), and exposure to sexual content (p = 0.000) were significantly associated with adolescent sexual behavior. The multivariate analysis demonstrated that the intensity of social media use was the most dominant factor influencing adolescent sexual behavior, followed by exposure to sexual content. Overall, these findings suggest that social media use contributes to adolescent sexual behavior, particularly when characterized by high intensity and frequent exposure to sexually explicit content. This study highlights the importance of strengthening digital literacy, enhancing parental supervision, and reinforcing school-based reproductive health education. These efforts are expected to equip adolescents with the skills to use social media wisely and responsibly, thereby minimizing the risk of unhealthy sexual behavior.

Abstract

Butterfly pea flower extract can function as a qualitative indicator in detecting borax in various foods, which is characterized by a color change from blue to green or other colors after interacting with samples containing borax. Borax is often used as a food preservative, for example in tofu. The impact of the use of borax added to food can have a negative impact on the health of people who consume it. This study aims to describe the borax content in tofu sold by traders in the Pasar 6 Kualanamu village area, Beringin District. This study is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. This approach is used because the study focuses on observing phenomena that occur visually, namely the color change of butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea) when reacting with tofu samples to determine the presence or absence of borax in the food ingredients being tested. The results of the qualitative analysis of borax with butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea) on all tofu samples are negative with the resulting color blue. Interpretation of the color results after adding butterfly pea flower extract, if the result is blue or purple indicates negative borax (does not contain borax), if the result is bluish green indicates positive borax (contains borax). This shows that the tofu obtained from traders A, B, C who sell in the village area of Kualanamu Market 6 does not contain borax. Awareness of the dangers of using borax is very necessary for all parties to avoid the negative impacts caused by the use of borax in food.

Abstract

Turnaround Time (TAT) is an important indicator of laboratory service quality that supports accurate diagnosis and clinical decision-making. Delays in laboratory results may be influenced by pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing laboratory Turnaround Time (TAT) at Grandmed Hospital Lubuk Pakam. This study used a quantitative approach with an analytical observational design and a cross-sectional method. The population consisted of 32 clinical laboratory personnel selected using total sampling. Data were collected through validated and reliable questionnaires and secondary data from laboratory information system records. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with Spearman’s rank correlation test at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that most TAT values met the standard (87.5%). The average TAT for emergency services was 87 minutes, outpatient services 118 minutes, and inpatient services 130 minutes, all within the minimum service standard (≤140 minutes). Pre-analytical factors (r = 0.604; p = 0.000) and analytical factors (r = 0.545; p = 0.001) had significant effects on TAT, while post-analytical factors were not significant (r = -0.098; p = 0.595). In conclusion, pre-analytical and analytical factors are the main determinants of TAT, indicating the need to improve these stages to enhance laboratory service quality.

Abstract

Health development is a crucial component of national development aimed at improving the quality of human resources to become healthier, more intelligent, and more productive. One of the key indicators of successful health development is the reduction in infant and under-five mortality rates. Children under five years old are considered a vulnerable group due to their high risk of experiencing nutritional problems and diseases. Nutritional disorders in toddlers can increase susceptibility to infections, hinder growth and development, and reduce immune function and cognitive ability.  Underweight below the red line (BGM) is a condition of severe malnutrition resulting from inadequate intake of energy and protein over a relatively long period. In 2024, there were 11 recorded cases of BGM in Sumber Makmur Village. This study aims to identify factors associated with the incidence of BGM among toddlers. The study employed an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design, involving 72 toddlers selected through a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through interviews and observations and analyzed using the Chi-Square test.  The results showed a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of BGM among toddlers (p=0.010), between nutritional knowledge and BGM (p=0.031), between husband’s income and BGM (p=0.018), and between the number of family members and BGM (p=0.001). Based on these findings, it is expected that mothers with toddlers experiencing BGM will improve their understanding of balanced nutrition, adopt regular feeding practices, and provide appropriate complementary foods according to the child’s age, and consistently apply these practices in daily life.

Abstract

Adolescents in the transitional and growth phase are vulnerable to nutritional problems, including both undernutrition and overweight/obesity; therefore, adequate and balanced nutritional intake is essential during this period. However, current lifestyle and dietary changes have led to an increased consumption of fast food among the population, particularly among female adolescents. Fast food is typically high in calories, fat, sugar, and salt, and excessive consumption may lead to calorie accumulation, thereby affecting an individual’s nutritional status. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between fast food consumption habits and the nutritional status of female adolescents at SMP Negeri 6 Pekanbaru. This study employed a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 293 eighth-grade female students, with a sample of 66 respondents selected using simple random sampling. Data on fast food consumption were collected through interviews using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), while nutritional status data were obtained from measurements of height and weight, which were then calculated using the Z-Score (BMI-for-age) formula. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square statistical test. The results showed that respondents who frequently consumed fast food tended to have a higher prevalence of overnutrition (46.7%), whereas those who rarely consumed fast food mostly had normal nutritional status (72.2%). The Chi-Square test yielded a p-value of 0.002 (<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between fast food consumption habits and the nutritional status of female adolescents at SMP Negeri 6 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Medical emergencies represent a significant occupational health risk frequently encountered by plantation workers due to the physically demanding nature of their work, the use of work equipment, and exposure to specific environmental conditions. Nurses’ readiness in managing emergency situations is strongly influenced by their level of knowledge, first aid skills, and the availability of healthcare service support. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the readiness of nurses in plantation clinics in dealing with medical emergencies by considering the existing clinical service support.  This study employed a qualitative design with a thematic approach and was conducted at the Puskesbun Clinic of PTPN IV Langkat. The research informants consisted of plantation workers, clinic healthcare personnel, and clinic managers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document reviews. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis, which included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.  The findings indicated that most nurses in plantation clinics possess basic readiness in identifying medical emergency conditions; however, their first aid skills remain limited. Clinical service support plays a significant role in enhancing nurses’ readiness, particularly through the availability of healthcare personnel, initial emergency care services, and medical referral systems. The identified challenges include limited emergency training for nurses, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and long distances and travel time to referral healthcare facilities.  In conclusion, the readiness of nurses in plantation clinics to manage medical emergencies is not yet optimal and requires further improvement through continuous training, enhancement of clinical facilities, and the development of more effective referral coordination systems.

Abstract

The implementation of Minimum Service Standards (MSS) serves as a policy instrument designed to ensure equitable quality of primary healthcare services. However, the implementation of MSS in first-level healthcare facilities continues to face various challenges, particularly those related to the readiness and capacity of supporting systems. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of MSS at Dandy Dinda Primary Clinic in Deli Serdang Regency, assess the availability of facilities and infrastructure, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing the achievement of MSS indicators. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis involving clinic management and healthcare personnel. The data were analyzed thematically by linking empirical findings to systems theory and the Donabedian model, which encompasses input, process, and output components. The findings indicate that MSS implementation at Dandy Dinda Primary Clinic has been carried out; however, it has not yet reached an optimal level. In terms of input, information systems, human resource development, and the availability of facilities and infrastructure remain insufficient to fully support MSS implementation. In the process aspect, the application of standard operating procedures is inconsistent, and quality evaluation has not been conducted routinely nor in a data-driven manner. Meanwhile, in the output aspect, the achievement of MSS indicators varies and has not yet produced a significant impact on improving service quality and patient safety. This study concludes that the success of MSS implementation is more strongly influenced by the robustness of supporting systems rather than individual commitment alone. Therefore, strengthening information systems, continuously enhancing human resource capacity, and implementing follow-up action plans based on quality improvement cycles are essential to improve compliance with standards and achieve MSS indicators optimally.

Abstract

Background: Drug availability is an important indicator in ensuring service continuity and the quality of primary healthcare facilities. An effective drug management system can improve community access to medicines through the strengthening of primary healthcare services. Accurate needs planning, stock control, and procurement processes are key factors in maintaining the continuity of healthcare services. This study aimed to evaluate the drug procurement policy in relation to health administration and drug demand at Lubuk Pakam Public Health Center.  Methods: This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive evaluative design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document review. The main informants consisted of the Head of the Public Health Center, the responsible pharmacist, and a pharmaceutical management officer (TTK). Triangulation informants included the treasurer, e-logistics system officer (SIMO), and a nurse.  Results: The findings showed that drug procurement had been implemented relatively well and systematically through the stages of planning, submission through SIMO, distribution, recording, and periodic evaluation. Coordination among staff was carried out through routine meetings and internal communication, which supported stock monitoring and the handling of drug needs. The SIMO system facilitated recording and drug needs planning, although technical obstacles such as network disruptions and slow synchronization were still encountered. Other challenges included budget limitations, delayed fund disbursement, delayed distribution, discrepancies between requested and received medicines, and differences between physical stock and system data. Drug availability greatly influenced service quality, and when shortages occurred, drug substitution was carried out based on pharmacist recommendations.  Conclusion: The drug procurement policy at Lubuk Pakam Public Health Center has had a positive impact on health administration and the fulfillment of drug needs. However, improvements are still needed in procurement flexibility, acceleration of financial administration, supply accuracy, and the reliability of the e-logistics system to further optimize healthcare service quality.

Abstract

Background: One of the public health problems that requires greater attention is anemia, especially among adolescent girls, because it has the potential to reduce health status, daily productivity, and disrupt learning concentration. Sleep duration and the adequacy of iron intake are suspected to be factors influencing hemoglobin status. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between sleep duration and the adequacy of iron intake with hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls. Methodology: This analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 33 female students selected using a total sampling technique. The study was carried out at Sekolah Islam Terpadu Aulia Cendekia during November–December 2025. Sleep duration data were obtained from the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, iron intake was collected through the Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), and hemoglobin levels were measured using an Hb meter. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between variables with SPSS software. Results and Discussion: Most students have abnormal hemoglobin levels (66.7%), insufficient sleep duration (51.5%), and low iron intake (57.6%). The analysis shows a significant relationship between insufficient sleep duration and low hemoglobin levels (p=0.010; OR=9.643), as well as a significant correlation between inadequate iron intake and low hemoglobin levels (p=0.024; OR=7.111). Conclusion: Insufficient sleep duration and low iron intake are significantly associated with hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls; therefore, intervention through nutrition education and improvement of sleep patterns is needed as an effort to prevent anemia.
