Abstract

The formaldehyde was found as one of the toxic and mutagenic products. Long-term exposure will harm the health of the human body. This study aims to detect formaldehyde developed on an electrochemical sensor using Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE) modified with a thin layer of gold as the working electrode by cyclic voltammetry. Electrode modification was carried out by electrodeposition of Au potential-sweeping on electrodes known as Au/GCE electrodes. The resulting electrode has high conductivity and excellent catalytic activity because it is able to provide a large peak current response. In this study, the optimum conditions will be determined based on variations in the electrodeposition cycles of gold thin films and variations in the supporting electrolyte. The optimum cycle of gold thin film electrodeposition was obtained, namely one cycle and 0.1 M KOH as the optimum supporting electrolyte. The peak current obtained is sharper, the sensitivity and stability are also better due to the electrocatalytic properties produced by the high gold thin layer.

Abstract

Sechium edule. or chayote is a plant that belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family. Almost all parts of this plant can be consumed, one of which is the fruits. chayote can be cooked as a vegetable and is a good source of vitamin C . In this study, phytochemical screening was performed to identify secondary metabolites containing in Musa x paradisiaca L. The results of phytochemical screening showed that Sechium edule. contained secondary metabolites of flavonoids, steroids and saponins, but did not contain alkaloids and terpenoids.

Abstract

The unique properties of the magnetic quantum dot Fe3O4 make it widely synthesized by different methods and applied in the biomedical field. The synthesis method plays an important role in determining the optical properties of the magnetic quantum dot Fe3O4. This study aims to determine the magnetic synthesis of quantum dot Fe3O4 coated with oleic acid by coprecipitation method. Quantum dot Fe3O4 magnetic synthesis method by coprecipitation using oleic acid for functionalization of Fe3O4 quantum dot magnetic. The results of the FTIR analysis showed five main absorption bands namely O-H, C-H, C=C, C-O, and Fe-O which indicated that the magnetic quantum dot Fe3O4 was successfully functionalized with oleic acid.

Abstract

Beef rendang is one of traditional foods from Minangkabau, West Sumatra. Rendang cooked with basic ingredient from beef, coconut milk and special spices. The addition of cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) spice in cooking can improve the taste, other than that, cumin is additionally valuable as an antioxidant, antidiabetic, and lowering cholesterol. Nevertheless, there is no organoleptic report stating that cumin spice can improve the taste of rendang. The aim of the study was to see the level of preference for rendang which was added weight  variations of cumin based on sensory parameters (color, meat texture, surface of spices, aroma, flavor). The test method determined organoleptically by the hedonic test method on 48 panelists from chemistry 3rd year understudies of University of Negeri Padang were given rendang with variations in addition of cumin at 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 grams/500 grams of beef. The test results appeared a significant decrease in the level of inclination for rendang in parameters of color, surface of spices, and flavor of rendang with the addition of 2.5 grams of cumin when compared to the original rendang and and in common there was no significant alter. In conclusion, the expansion of cumin flavor influences the taste of beef rendang.

Abstract

Manganese is one of the heavy metals that can pollute waters. This is caused by the use of pesticides and steel industry waste. Adsorption is one method that can be used to separate manganese metal. The adsorbent that is often used in adsorption is silica gel. However, the effectiveness of silica gel in absorbing heavy metal ions is very low, so modification is needed to increase the absorption capacity of silica gel to heavy metal ions. The purpose of this research is to obtain optimum conditions and sorption capacity of sulfonate-modified Silica-GPTMS in adsorbing Mn2+ ions and its adsorption isotherm. This study used batch method for adsorption process by varying pH and contact time. The results of absorption capacity at the optimum conditions of pH 4 and contact time 30 minutes.

Abstract

This study aims to increase the electrical conductivity of the aniline synthesis product with added dopant. Polyaniline conductive polymer synthesis was carried out with aniline monomer mixed with Ethylene Glycol Dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as crosslinker, Dimethoxy phenylacetophenone (DMPP) as initiator, Fe2O3 as dopant. The polymer results were tested for electrical conductivity using a Four Point Probe (FPP) and characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Uv-vis DRS (Uv-visible Diffuse Reflectance). the composition that showed the highest conductivity was the addition of Fe2O3 dopant as much as 0.0283 g with an electrical conductivity value of 17.0609 x 10-3 S/cm.

Abstract

Adsorption is a process of absorption of adsorbate or substances absorbed by the surface of the adsorbent or absorbent substance which aims to reduce the Fe3+ cation in a solution. Research has been carried out on the adsorption of Fe3+ cations using silica sulfonate adsorbents by varying the pH and contact time to obtain optimum conditions during adsorptions. The adsorption process of Fe3+ cations used a sulfonate modified silica gel adsorbent has been carried out by varying the pH, namely 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; 7 and the maximum pH has been fixed at pH 6 with an abdorption capacity of 2,32732 mg/g with an absorpyion percentage of 78.79 %, contact time variations of 15; 30; 45; 60; 75 minutes have been obtained for optimum contact time at 45 minutes with an absorption capacity of 2,225756 mg/g and absorption percent of 77,33 %

Abstract

Heavy metals are produced from various industries whose existence is very dangerous for the environment and human life. Cadmium is an example of a heavy metal that is dangerous and meeds to be addresses. Biosorption is one method that can be used to absorb heavy metal. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum conditions of ansorption and ansorption capacity of durian shell cellulose the absorption of Cd metal. In this study using a batch method and the test is measured using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) instrument and characterized by FTIR. In this study the parameters tested were variations in pH (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and concentration (50, 100, 150, 200, 250) ppm. The optimum conditions obtained in each variation were pH 4, concentration 200 ppm and contact time with a maximum adsorption capacity of 4,1 mg/g. The modeling of the isotherm that is close to equilibrium is the Langmuir isotherm with R2= 0,9499.

Abstract

Methylene Blue is a dangerous dye produced in the textile industry. Biosorption can be used as one method to overcome textile dye waste. Biosorption is an easy-to-use method, because it is simpler, more economical, and environmentally friendly. Biosorbents that can be used, namely cellulose in durian peel (Durio zibethinus Murr.) can be used as an alternative to be used as a biosorbent in the absorption of methylene blue dyes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of stirring speed on the absorption of Methylene blue dye using cellulose adsorbents. In the study, methylene blue biosorption was carried out using durian peel cellulose biosorbent (Durio zibethinus Murr.) with a batch method at variations in stirring speeds of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 rpm. The results of this study obtained a cellulose extract from 90 grams of durian peel the extract resulted in 28.585 grams with a percentage of 31.69%. Results obtained at a speed of 200 rpm obtained an optimum absorption capacity of 25,0948 mg/g.

Abstract

The research that has been done on the photolysis of the degradation of Malachite Green using TiO2 catalyst aims to determine the effect of the percentage degradation of the Malachite Green solution. The results of UV-Vis spectrophotometer measurements obtained a wavelength of 617nm. The results showed that the highest percentage of degradation was 99.05% at 210 minutes using TiO2 catalyst, while 65.45% with TiO2 catalyst mass of 0.25 grams. This study shows that the hydroxyl radical (∙OH) is the main control in degrading Malachite Green.
