Abstract

This study aims to identify problems facing by participants in experiencing teaching pratice under The Strengthening Teaching Competency Programme. An evaluation method was employed through problem and issues maping, interpreting problem  dynamics, and improving actions. A qualitative-naturalistic approach with inteview was conducted during April-July 2009 to participants of Lower Secondary School Teacher Training  who live  in remote and rural areas in  Bandung, Bogor and Serang region. Interview was also   conducted to tutors, supervisors, programme manager, remote-school principals, peer teachers and students involved in the  teaching practicum/exercise. Observations and documentary study were employed to support the data of the interview. Problems  identified as  the low performance of  supervisory officials and partnership schools in guiding  student teachers in  developing didactic materials for both practicum and final exam. Most participants become stressed due to the absence of a definite timetable guidance process both in the process of lesson plan development, implementation of practicum and execution of final exams. It was suggested to redesign the current system with a more reliable system for participants coming from remote areas who wish to carry out teaching practice.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of problem based learning (PBL) method on motivation readiness and learning outcomes.The research employs quasi experimental design “On Group Pretest-Postest Design”. The total population is 70 students, and the samples selected is18 respondent. The sampling technique employed is non probability sampling. The results of analysis using Wilxocon Matched Pair indicates that there is significant influence of  PBL on the dependent variables, with the p-value for learning motivation, p = 0,000, study readiness, p = 0,001 and learning outcomes p = 0,001. The findings confirm that problem based learning (PBL) method has significant effects on motivation study, readiness and learning outcomes, which implies that this methods can be employed for effective teaching learning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pengaruh metode Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap motivasi, kesiapan dan hasil belajar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen (quasi eksperimental design) dengan rancangan “One Group Pretest-Posttes Design”. Jumlah populasi 70 mahasiswa dan sampel yang diambil sebanyak 18 responden. Teknik pengambilan sample dengan Non probability Sampling jenis purposive sampling. Hasil pengolahan data uji Wilcoxon Matched Pair menyatakan bahwa terdapat pengaruh dengan nilai p-value dari masing-masing variabel yaitu motivasi belajar p =0,000, kesiapan belajar p = 0,001 dan hasil belajar p = 0,001. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwaterdapat pengaruh signifikan penggunaan metode problem based learning (PBL) terhadap motivasi, kesiapan dan hasil. Dengan demikian metode problem based learning ini dapat menjadi bahan pertimbangan dalam upaya menghasilkan pembelajaran yang efektif.

Abstract

Research and development (R & D) of electronic books (e-book) for science in International Secondary Schools (RSBI and SBI) were conducted with the objective of providing science e-books as a source of learning for teachers and students of RSBI and SBI. With the development of this e-book, it was expected to develop an integrated understanding of science in students, develop students' language skills, and to develop skills in using information technology. The study was conducted by the method of R & D that begins with an analysis of national science curriculum and Cambridge curriculum. The e-book was presented in the form of integrated themes that combined concepts of physics, chemistry and biology written in English. From the results of feasibility study conducted on the use of the e-books it was found that the e-books were sufficiently met the criteria in terms of image presentation, animation, font used, English, exercises and student activities. In general, it was concluded that the e-book developed was creatively made and appropriate for learning source in secondary schools, particularly in RSBI and SBI. Penelitian Pengembangan Buku Elektronik untuk Sains di SMP SBI dan RSBI dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk menyediakan buku sains yang dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu sumber belajar bagi guru dan siswa SMP di RSBI/SBI. Dengan dikembangkannya buku ini, diharapkan pembelajaran sains dapat mengembangkan pemahaman sains siswa yang terintegrasi, mengembangkan kemampuan berbahasa siswa, serta mengembangkan kemampuan dalam menggunakan teknologi informasi. Penelitian dilakukan melalui metode Reseach and Development (R&D) yang diawali dengan analisis kurikulum sains SMP berdasarkan KTSP dan kurikulum Cambridge. Penyajian buku berupa tema-tema yang mengintegrasikan konsep-konsep dalam fisika, kimia dan biologi dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar. Dari hasil uji kelayakan penggunaan buku yang dilakukan terhadap siswa SMP diperoleh bahwa e-book yang disusun memenuhi kriteria penggunaan e-book dalam aspek penyajian gambar, animasi, penggunaan huruf, penggunaan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar, latihan serta kegiatan siswa. Secara umum, e-book yang dikembangkan dinilai memiliki kreativitas yang baik dan layak digunakan sebagai buku sumber dalam pembelajaran sains di SMP, khususnya di RSBI/SBI.

Abstract

Align with the shift of educafional paradigm from teacher-centered to student-centered, sooner or later teachers should adapt themselves to the new roles. This article discusses teachers' roles and competencies related to e-learning.

Abstract

The study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of ‘two schools under one-roof’policy which integrate primary and secondary schools in Pongkar Village, Tebing, Karimun District. The research informants consists the principals, teachers, administrative staff, school committees, and students at the Under One roof schools at Pongkar Village, and of  the officials of the Karimun District Education Office. Methods of data collection are interview, observation and documentation study. The results showed that the policy of one-roof SD-SMPN 4 in Pongkar Village has been run in accordance with the objectives of its establishment, indicated from the standard and the policy objectives that have been achieved, the inter-organization communications went smoothly, and the activities to ensure the implementation of the policy went well. Conducive socio-economic and political conditions support the implementation of the under-one-roof school policy. Inhibiting factors that occur are insufficient facilities and infrastructure, the insufficient number of teachers, low motivation of some communities to send their children to this school, and geographical conditions. Attempts to overcome obstacles in implementing the policy includes obtaining special funding assistance from the Karimun District Education Office, empowering teachers to make learning more effective, better arranging school schedules, and socializing the policy and the school to the community. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis: (1) pelaksanaan kebijakan SD-SMP satu atap di Desa Pongkar Kecamatan Tebing. Informan penelitian adalah pejabat Dinas Pendidikan Kabupaten Karimun, kepala sekolah, guru, pegawai tata usaha, komite sekolah, dan siswa. Lokasi penelitian di sekolah satu atap di Desa Pongkar Kecamatan Tebing Kabupaten Karimun. Metode pengumpulan data dengan wawancara, observasi dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kebijakan SD-SMPN 4 satu atap di Desa Pongkar telah berjalan sesuai dengan tujuan pendiriannya, terlihat dari standar dan tujuan kebijakan yang telah tercapai, komunikasi interorganisasi berjalan dengan lancar, dan aktifitas pengukuhan berjalan dengan baik. Kondisi sosial ekonomi dan politik yang kondusif mendukung pelaksanaan sekolah satu atap. Faktor-faktor penghambat yang terjadi adalah sarana dan prasarana yang belum memadai, jumlah tenaga pendidik dan kependidikan belum cukup, motivasi sebagian masyarakat untuk menyekolahkan anaknya masih rendah, serta kondisi geografis. Usaha untuk mengatasi hambatan dalam pelaksanaan kebijakan SD-SMP Negeri 4 satu atap di antaranya adalah memperoleh bantuan dana khusus dari Dinas Pendidikan Kabupaten Karimun, memberdayakan guru-guru agar pembelajaran lebih efektif, pengaturan jadwal sekolah yang lebih baik, dan melakukan sosialisasi kepada masyarakat.

Abstract

This research intends to analize the effect of scaffolding technique on the difficulty level experienced by students in solving problems of The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) for space and geometry lessons. This research uses qualitative analytic. The subjects in this study are 9 students from 32 students in grade V of the Islamic Elementary School of Al-Azhar BSD. The validity of ICAS test results ranged from 0.2 to 0.6 and the reliability is 0.66. The results showed the reduction of students’ difficulties in solving mathematics problems of ICAS after obtaining scaffolding technique based on the result of cognitive mapping. The conclusions are: (1) The number of incorrect student answers during the initial diagnostic test and the final diagnostic test vary of 2 to 3 from 6 questions; (2) There was a reduction in the average score of the students’ wrong answers by 65%; (3) Of the 9 subjects who received scaffolding techniques based on cognitive mapping, there were 6 subjects had a reduction of difficulty more than 50%, while the other 3 subjects had a reduction of difficulty less than 50%. (4) The result of paired t-test of 9 subjects is 5.121 with significance level of 0.001. It can be concluded that scaffolding technique has a good impacts in reducing students’ difficulties in geometry. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis dampak penggunaan teknik scaffolding pada tingkat kesulitan siswa dalam penyelesaian soal The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) untuk materi space dan geometry.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 9 orang siswa yang diambil dari 32 siswa kelas V E SD Islam Al-Azhar BSD. Validitas hasil uji coba tes ICAS berkisar antara 0,2 sampai 0,6 dengan reliabilitas sebesar 0,66. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan reduksi kesulitan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika ICAS year 5 setelah mendapatkan teknik scaffolding berdasarkan hasil pemetaan kognitif. Beberapa kesimpulan diperolehyaitu: (1) Banyaknya jawaban siswa yang salah pada saat tes diagnostik awal dan tes diagnostik akhir berkisar antara 2 sampai 3 dari 6 soal; (2) Terjadi pengurangan atau reduksi pada rata-rata jawaban siswa yang salah sebesar 65%; (3) Dari 9 orang subjek penelitian yang mendapatkan teknik scaffolding berdasarkan pemetaan kognitif, ada 6 subjek yang mengalami reduksi kesulitan lebih dari 50%, sedangkan 3 subjek lain mengalami reduksi kesulitan kurang dari 50%. (4) Hasil perhitungan uji-t berpasangan pada 9 subjek adalah 5,121 dengan nilai signifikan 0,001. Dengan demikian, penerapan teknik scaffolding saat penelitian memiliki dampak baik pada subjek yaitu mengurangi kesulitan siswa dalam mengerjakan soal geometri ICAS.

Abstract

Early childhood need proper media when they want to express their willingnesses and feelings due to they havent got verbal communication ability well. Pictures or visual art can be used as media that can depicture children feelings when they can not talk. In more mature age phase, pictures or visual art made by children can be rendered as expressive media to measure perceptions they have. Hence, pictures can be made as aid media to develop language skill to children. There are some steps that need to be conducted for giving stimulus that can produce visual art containing typical original story for children. Creating visual art is one of steps that can be conducted to enhance kinds of intelligence components in early age children. Besides, it is used to develop spatial-visual intelligence in the children, creating visual art can be proceeded as one of ways of developing language creativity. Utilizing visual art can enact the children more helpful in narrating about something. Describing a thing experienced by the children then narrates it, is one of step for them in expressing their feelings on something. Therefore, by means of visual creation development, a teacher is be able to increase children capabilities in communication and their ability in intellectual. Anak usia dini membutuhkan media yang tepat ketika akan mengungkapkan keinginan serta perasaannya saat mereka belum memiliki kemampuan komunikasi verbal yang baik. Gambar atau karya visual dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media yang menceritakan perasaan anak ketika mereka tidak berbicara. Pada tahapan usia yang lebih matang, gambar atau karya visual yang dibuat oleh anak-anak dapat dijadikan sebagai media ekspresi serta untuk mengukur wawasan yang dimiliki oleh mereka. Karena itu, gambar dapat dijadikan sebagai media yang membantu mengembangkan keterampilan berbahasa pada anak. Agar dapat menghasilkan karya visual yang kaya dengan cerita asli khas anak-anak, banyak langkah yang perlu dilakukan untuk memberi stimulus. Menciptakan karya visual adalah salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengembangkan berbagai komponen kecerdasan pada anak usia dini. Selain untuk mengembangkan kecerdasan visual-spasial pada anak, menciptakan karya visual dapat dilakukan sebagai salah satu cara pengembangan kreativitas berbahasa. Menggunakan karya visual membuat anak-anak lebih terbantu dalam bercerita mengenai suatu hal. Menggambarkan hal yang dialami oleh anak kemudian menceritakannya adalah merupakan salah satu jalan bagi mereka mengekspresikan perasaannya terhadap sesuatu. Dengan demikian, melalui pengembangan karya visual, guru dapat meningkatkan kemampuan anak dalam berkomunikasi serta peningkatan kemampuan berpikirnya.

Abstract

This article is the result of research on face-to-face tutorial services for students participating in distance education programs. The research was conducted during the months April to June 2009 in tutorial centers in the district of Tangerang located at SMPN XIII and SD Sukasari 1. Subjects were participants of primary school teacher training program (PGSD), tutors, managers and organizers of the program. Observations focused on the administrative services, academic services, and facilities for tutorial activities. Results showed that there was no special briefing for participants. As a result many students are not prepared to follow the tutorial. The location viewed from the perspective of affordability was very low, because most students live in the suburbs. Tutorial classroom conditions do not meet minimum service standards of a conducive learning space as a result tutors were difficult to develop an instructional system optimally. It is advisable to give a special briefing for the students so that participants had an understanding of the nature of the tutorial, the need to increase the quality of facilities and infrastructure, review the location of activities, and the need for strict academic requirements for tutors.

Abstract

Mathematical thinking is divided into lower-order thinking skills (LOTS) and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). The LOTS is consisted of recall thinking and basic thinking, while HOTS required a more complex thinking abilities such as critical thinking and creative thinking. This research is aimed to develop a valid, effective, and practical HOTS-based worksheet for S-1 PGSD students who took Mathematics course in Universitas Terbuka. The application of HOTS-based worksheet is expected to be able to improve students’ learning motivation, as well as their ability in thinking critically and creatively in solving mathematical problems. The research is a developmental research, and the obtained data were analyzed descriptively. The subjects of this research were 72 students of S-1 PGSD program Universitas Terbuka Surabaya who took Mathematics (PDGK4108) course. The results showed that the developed HOTS-based worksheet fulfils the validity, practical, and effective criteria to improve students’ learning motivation, which can be seen that 77% of students (56 students) felt encouraged and motivated to think critically and creatively, 72% of students (52 students) showed the ability to solve problem based questions. Furthermore, 78% of the students (41 students) achieved 75 out of 100 score or more. It can be concluded that the application of the developed HOTS-based worksheet is suitable in teaching Mathematics. Kemampuan berpikir dalam matematika dibagi atas kemampuan berpikir tingkat rendah (low order thinking skills disingkat LOTS) dan berpikir tingkat tinggi (high order thinking skills disingkat HOTS). Berpikir yang tergolong LOTS meliputi berpikir memanggil (recall thinking), dan berpikir dasar (basic thinking),sedangkan yang tergolong HOTS meliputi berpikir kritis (critical thinking) dan berpikir kreatif (creative thinking). Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan LKM (lembar kerja mahasiswa) berbasis HOTS pada matakuliah Matematika di program S-1 PGSD UT yang valid, efektif dan praktis. Pendekatan tutorial dengan menggunakan LKM HOTS ini, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar mahasiswa dan meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis serta meningkatkan kemampuan dalam mengerjakan soal-soal matematika sehingga dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar. Jenis penelitian adalah penelitian pengembangan (developmental research) dan deskriptif. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 72 mahasiswa program S1 PGSD UPBJJ UT Surabaya yang mengambil mata kuliah Matematika (PDGK4108). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa LKM berbasis HOTS yang dikembangkan memenuhi kriteria valid, praktis danefektif,  untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar mahasiswa, ditunjukkan oleh 77% (56 mahasiswa) yang merasa tertantang dan termotivasi untuk berpikir tingkat tinggi (kritis, dan kreatif), 72% (52 mahasiswa) mampu menyelesaikan soal-soal yang bersifat pemecahan masalah, dan dari mahasiswa yang mampu tersebut ada sebanyak 78 % (41 mahasiswa) mendapat nilai lebih dari atau sama 75 dari skor maksimal 100. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa LKM bebasis HOTS yang dikembangkan cocok untuk diaplikasikan dalam pengajaran matematika.

Abstract

The research analyses the effect of cooperative learning model Jigsaw type and learning motivation on student’s understanding on citizenship subject. The research method uses quasi experimental design with post test only control design. The subject of research was 44 students which constitutes two classes, experiment and control classes. The data collection employs test and questionnaire. The data was analyzed using Two-way Anova test. The results show that cooperative learning model Jigsaw type hasa significant effect on student’s conceptual understanding. The ANOVA test produce significant level below 0.05, which indicates there is significant effect of the Jigsaw model and learning motivation on student achievement. It can be concluded that the cooperative learning model contributes better to learning achievement than conventional learning model, and a high learning motivation contributes better to students learning achievement in citizentship subject than a low learning motivation. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw dan motivasi terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep PPKn siswa sekolah dasar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen dengan post test only control design. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 44 siswa yang terdiri dari 22 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 22 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Anova 2 jalur. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw yang positif dan signifikan terhadap hasil belajar siswa berupa pemahaman konsep PPKn siswa. Siswa dengan tingkat motivasi yang tinggi lebih baik dalam hal penggunaan model Jigsaw dan hasil belajar, dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mempunyai motivasi rendah. Terdapat interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan motivasi belajar terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep PPKn. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw lebih baik daripada model pembelajaran ceramah untuk mencapai hasil belajar yang lebih baik, dan bahwa siswa dengan motivasi belajar yang tinggi lebih baik daripada siswa dengan motivasi belajar yang rendah dalam penggunaan atau pemanfaatan model pembelajaran Jigsaw dan hasil belajarnya.
