Abstract

Agricultural extension is crucial for enhancing production and the well-being of farmers; however, how well it works relies on how satisfied farmers are with the services offered. This study seeks to evaluate the degree of farmer satisfaction with agricultural  extension services in the Otauw Mokho Farmers Group, Sereh Village, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with a saturated sampling technique applied to 20 members of the farmer group. Data were collected thru questionnaires, interviews, and observations, and then analyzed using scoring methods with a Likert scale. The research results show that the level of farmer satisfaction with agricultural extension services reaches 81.24% (very satisfied category), especially in the dimension of extension service quality. Meanwhile, satisfaction with extension support in marketing and farmer group development reaches 78.80% (satisfied category). Aspects that received high ratings include the communication skills of the extension workers, professional appearance, and the ability to provide new ideas for business development. However, the provision of production facilities and the use of social media for marketing still need to be improved. This research provides important input for formulating more effective extension strategies tailored to the needs of farmers in Jayapura Regency.

Abstract

Vegetable agribusiness is important for making ensuring there is enough food and for helping farmers earn more money. But how well it works relies a lot on how simple it is to conduct business and how effectively the value chain works. This study aims to assess the economic feasibility and value chain framework of vegetable agribusiness in Lawoila Village, South Konawe Regency. The study used a quantitative descriptive technique, using primary data collected from interviews with farmers, middlemen, and dealers. The research looked at the expenses and revenues, the R/C Ratio, the B/C Ratio, the profitability, and the marketing margins. Each planting season, it cost an average of Rp3,287,333 to cultivate vegetables, and the total income was Rp5,775,000. The net income was Rp2,487,667, which indicates this. The R/C Ratio is 1.76 and the B/C Ratio is 0.76, thus you can produce vegetables and earn money doing it. Customers paid Rp7,000 for each bundle, while farmers paid Rp3,000 for each bundle. This meant that the overall marketing margin for each product was Rp4,000. The middlemen and merchants get most of the value that is produced. This suggests that the benefits throughout the value chain are not yet evenly divided out.

Abstract

The focus of this study is to (1) identify the marketing channels for fresh fruit bunches (FFB) of oil palm produced by smallholder farmers, (2) describe the marketing functions performed by each marketing institution, and (3) analyze the efficiency of the marketing channels used in Payung Village, South Bangka Regency. Using a descriptive quantitative approach conducted from mid-June to July 2025, this study mapped the marketing flow, the roles of relevant institutions, and their efficiency levels. Snowball sampling revealed that smallholder farmers, collector traders, and palm oil mills form the dominant marketing chain. The analysis results indicate that traders largely assume logistical roles and risk management, while farmers participate in storage functions. Specifically, first-tier collector traders were identified as the most efficient channel, with the lowest margin of Rp120–Rp150/kg and a farmer’s share reaching 95.74%.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the most profitable intercropping commodities on dry land in Kampungbaru Village, Plandaan Subdistrict, Jombang Regency. The research was conducted purposively from May to July 2025 on 63 farmers who practised intercropping of chilli and maize and chilli and tobacco. Primary data were collected through observation and interviews, while secondary data were obtained from relevant agencies. The analysis used calculations of production costs, revenue, income, Revenue Cost (R/C) ratio, and Benefit Cost (B/C) ratio. The results showed that chilli–tobacco had higher total costs than chilli–maize, but provided greater revenue and income. The R/C ratio and B/C ratio values for chilli–maize were 3.49 and 2.49, while those for chilli–tobacco were 4.59 and 3.59, indicating that both systems were feasible to implement, with higher values for chilli–tobacco. These findings indicated that pepper–tobacco intercropping was more profitable and had the potential to improve the welfare of dryland farmers.

Abstract

Bananas are a horticultural commodity that continues to grow in Banyuwangi. Bananas are categorized into two types: fruit/table bananas and processed/plantain bananas. This study aims to identify various vertical diversification potentials of plantain bananas, identify the most potential priority products of plantain bananas to be developed, and determine the added value of priority products from plantain bananas. This study utilizes two analytical methods: the Exponential Comparison Method (ECM) and Hayami's Value-Added Analysis. The results indicate that sale pisang (dried banana slices) is the most potential processed plantain product for further development and has a significant influence on market opportunity factors, capital, profit potential, and human resource capability. The results of the product value added analysis calculation are IDR 9,053.00/kg, with a relatively high value added ratio of 52%.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the income levels of rice farmers and to map the internal and external factors that influence farming activities. The research was conducted in Pasuruan Regency, East Java, with three sub-districts selected using purposive sampling technique, namely Kraton, Wonorejo, and Kejayan sub-districts, with a total of 72 farmers as respondents determined using the Slovin formula. Data collection was conducted thru structured interviews based on a Likert scale questionnaire, while data processing used a SWAT analysis approach combined with IFAS and EFAS matrices. The research findings revealed that: (1) the average income of rice farmers in the study location is Rp6,824,000 per planting season with an average yield of 2,300 kg per planting season on an average land area of 0.3 hectares; (2) identified strengths include farmer motivation (score 4), farming experience (score 4), soil fertility (score 3), and the application of agricultural machinery technology (score 3), while weaknesses include limited business capital, inefficiency in fertilizer use, narrow farming land, and weak farmer group dynamics; (3) opportunity factors include access to KUR Tani financing (score 4), availability of superior varieties (score 4), availability of fertilizers and pesticides (score 4), and government policy support (score 3), while threat factors include rainfall fluctuations, low government purchase prices (HPP) for rice, scarcity of agricultural labor, and attacks by plant-disturbing organisms (OPT); (4) based on the IFAS matrix (score difference 0.90) and the EFAS matrix (score difference 1.21), the strategic position is in Quadrant I, so the recommended priority strategy is an aggressive strategy (SO) thru optimizing production facility subsidies, accelerating the adoption of modern agricultural machinery, and strengthening farmers' access to capital.

Abstract

The matoa nursery business has strong potential in tropical fruit agribusiness development; however, its sustainability depends on cost efficiency and financial viability. This study aimed to determine whether this business is financially feasible and economically viable. The method applied is a case study approach with descriptive quantitative analysis, using data on production costs, revenue, and profit per production cycle. The results showed a total production cost of IDR 75,016,083.33 with revenue of IDR 240,000,000, resulting in a profit of IDR 164,983,916.67 per production period. The R/C ratio was 3.20 and the B/C ratio was 2.20, indicating high cost efficiency and profitability. The break-even point for production is 3,750.80 seedlings and IDR 75,016,083.33 in sales. This is far below the realization of sales of 12,000 seedlings or IDR 240 million, indicating a large safety margin. Thus, the matoa nursery business at CV Kebun Sari is declared feasible and has the potential to be developed comprehensively.
