Abstract

Many students assumed reading is not difficult process. In fact, reading process is not merely their understanding of each word and the surface structure denoted in a text, but it also includes the process of comprehension. Unfortunately, they also do not realize that during this process, reading anxiety, reading self-efficacy and vocabulary have been stated as some contributing factors. Thus, the current study examined whether reading anxiety, reading self-efficacy and vocabulary contribute towards students’ reading comprehension and which one of these factors that serves as the better predictor of students’ reading comprehension among 82 students of second semester of English department of Halu Oleo University. Questionnaires are employed for measuring students’ reading anxiety and reading self-efficacy, vocabulary test for measuring students’ vocabulary. Whereas, reading comprehension test for measuring students’ reading comprehension. The result revealed reading anxiety contributes towards students’ reading comprehension, reading self-efficacy contributes towards students’ reading comprehension and vocabulary contributes towards students’ reading comprehension. Vocabulary is higher than reading anxiety and reading self-efficacy in predicting students’ reading comprehension when these factors are examined simultaneously. Importantly, this study leads to the conclusion that vocabulary is better and stronger predictor of students’ reading comprehension than students’ reading anxiety and students’ reading self-efficacy. Taking importance of vocabulary into consideration, therefore language teachers should put more emphasize on students’ vocabulary, particularly endeavor to make their vocabulary knowledge wider and deeper.

Abstract

Doxorubicin chemotherapy has been a strong focus in breast cancer research. Side effects, toxicity and resistance have been extensively studied. One proposed solution to these issues that its combination with deoxyelephantopin. Deoxyelephantopin is known to be toxic in many cancer cells but safe in normal cells. IC50 of each compound were determined by using a MTT assay, and the MDR-1 gene mRNA expression were determined by using qPCR method, while the interaction of doxorubicin in combination with deoxyelephantonin on Pgp receptor were predicted by using an in silico approach. The IC50 of deoxyelephantopin was found to be 11.2 g/mL, while IC50 of doxorubicin was 448 nM IC50 values showed a deoxyelephantopin-doxorubicin combination was able to reduce MDR-1 expression by 19% compared to doxorubicin and IC50 values indicated that the combination formula reduced the expression by 15% over doxorubicin alone. The affinity of doxorubicin and deoxyelephantopin is -12.16 kcal/mol and -9.51 kcal/mol, respectively, while the affinity of doxorubicin after combine with deoxyelephantopin decreases from -12,16 kcal/mol to -11,25 kcal/mol due to the release of one Leu 221 hydrogen bond. The combination of doxorubicin with deoxyelephantopin is able to reduce expression and suppress the function of the Pgp protein.

Abstract

This article discusses Zillmer's reserves for endowment last survivor of life insurance. Zillmer reserves are a type of modification of premium reserves which are calculated using prospective reserves and the Zillmer rate. In Zillmer reserves, loading which is the difference between gross premium and net premium in the first policy year is greater than standard loading. In this article, the life insurance used is endowment last survivor of life insurance, where the reserve calculation for last survivor status is calculated for 3 cases, namely, both participants survive until the end of the policy, participant x survive but participant y died, and participant y survive but participant x died. So the purpose of this research is to find a way to make the loading value in 3 cases on the dwiguna last survivor of life insurance Zillmer reserves smaller. To achieve this goal, this article uses the Lomax distribution with the parameters estimated using maximum likelihood estimation and then determined by a Newton-Raphson iteration method. Based on the illustration, even though in the first policy year in cases where both participants survive until the end of the policy there was still a negative loading, overall Zillmer's reserves in each case continues to increase over time

Abstract

Combined life insurance is a type of insurance that protects two or more people who are related by family and is divided into two, namely joint-life life insurance and last-survivor life insurance. The last survivor life insurance is a condition of life insurance that will continue if there is at least one of all insurance participants who is still alive and will stop if all insurance participants die. The insurance company has to pay the benefit to the heirs of the insurance participant. When a claim occurs, the insurance company must prepare the reserve fee. The purpose of this research is to determine the amount of premium reserve of endowment last-survivor life insurance using prospective reserve and full preliminary term reserve. Full preliminary term reserve is one of the modified premium reserve calculations from Zillmer Reserve. To determine prospective reserve and full preliminary term reserve using the initial life annuity, single premium, and annual premium. Whereas the initial life annuity is influenced by the combined life and death opportunity of the insurance participants. Furthermore, the combined life and death opportunity of insurance participants will be obtained from Clayton copula and to obtain the parameter of Clayton copula, Rstudio software is used. Based on the result, the value of prospective reserves and full preliminary term reserves has increased every year and prospective reserves produce a greater value than full preliminary term reserves. If the insurance company uses this reserve calculation, the reserve that the company must prepare will increase every year. This is useful for insurance companies in predicting the amount of reserves they must have.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of product variety, service quality, and price on purchasing decisions among customers of MINISO Central Park. The research employs a quantitative causal design with data collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to customers. The analysis was conducted using multiple regression to evaluate the validity, reliability, and statistical significance of the proposed relationships. The findings reveal that service quality and price significantly influence purchasing decisions, while product variety shows no substantial impact. The results suggest that customers place greater emphasis on the affordability of products and the quality of service they experience, rather than the diversity of product assortment. This highlights the importance of focusing on value creation and service excellence to strengthen consumer decision-making. The study contributes to marketing literature by providing evidence from a retail context and offers managerial implications for enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
