Abstract

The development of science and technology has an important role in the process of improving the quality of education, one of which is by creating a learning medium that can support the learning process. The purpose of this study was to determine the needs of students for Android-based learning media on DNA replication material for genetics courses in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNP. This type of research is a quantitative descriptive study. The method used in data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to biology students who had taken genetics courses and interviewing two lecturers in the genetics course. In addition, the data used are in the form of study results obtained by students who have completed the genetics course. The results showed that students experienced difficulties in understanding the DNA replication material due to the abstract material and the lack of interesting learning media. For this reason, an Android-based learning media is needed that can be accessed anywhere and anytime to support student learning.

Abstract

The Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic has a profound effect on education today. As a result, personal academic activities including laboratory practice in learning should be avoided. Social distancing makes several schools, colleges and companies closed and applies online learning. Online learning is a form of education where a lot of media will be adopted for the learning and intercommunication system between students and teachers. One of the strategies used for learning is to take advantage of existing technology. This study aims to determine the perceptions of teachers and students towards online learning during the pandemic. The research method was carried out quantitatively by interviewing and distributing questionnaires containing statement items with five aspects of the focus of the study, namely implementation, interest, motivation, attitudes and responses and student satisfaction during online learning. Quantitative data analysis was carried out using a Likert scale survey method with 1 biology teacher and 103 students, namely students of class X, XI and XII IPA MAN 1 Padang Panjang as the research sample. The results showed that the five aspects of learning related to teacher and student perceptions of online learning during the pandemic had positive results. The researcher's findings are positive, it does not mean that there are no obstacles in the implementation of online biology learning such as difficult places to access the internet, internet quotas and the material and assignments given are difficult for students to understand.

Abstract

Teaching and learning activities are required online to reduce the spread of the corona virus. All subjects are transferred to online media, including biology which in its teaching requires practicum for student understanding. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of online biology learning during the Covid-19 pandemic for high school/ equivalent students in Muaro Jambi Regency. This study uses a quantitative model with a survey method. In this study, researchers only describe problems of learning and the media used for online learning. The implementation is done by collecting data, managing, and presenting the data objectively. In the research conducted, 36.8% of students answered in doubt and 27.3% did not agree in understanding biological material. This shows that the effectiveness of learning biology during the Covid-19 period is still not effective, because of the obstacles experienced by students, namely the media or learning methods provided by educators do not attract students' interest, learning is boring, and some students do not have adequate facilities for online learning. Giving a lot of assignments makes it difficult for students to understand biology learning.
