Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to analyze the attitudes and talents of students towards teacher profession and their impact on their academic result. The sample of this study was 78 students Economics Education Studies Program in Economy Faculty, The State University of Padang. The data were analyzed with descriptive and multiple regression. The finding of this study indicated that students showed positive attitudes and talents toward teacher profession. Besides, the attitudes and talents had positive effect towards their academic achievement Kata Kunci: Sikap, Bakat, Prestasi Belajar

Abstract

Political ideology has been assumed to be correlated with public service motivation (PSM) as indicated by some researchers in developed countries. This study was designed to investigate the correlation between political ideology and PSM among civil servants in Padang City. Mixing approach was used in this study. Using Anova test on responses by 417 respondents of civil servants in Padang City, this study tested the correlation between political ideology and PSM among the employees, in terms of the differences in the level of PSM based on political ideology followed by respondents. The findings of this study indicated that political ideology was significantly correlated to the level of PSM. Kata Kunci: Motivasi Pelayanan Publik, ideologi politik, Pegawai Negeri Sipil (PNS)

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research aims to increase the activity of learners in the learning of Citizenship Education classroom XII2 IPS at SMA Negeri 1 of Suliki Subdistrict, the District Lima Puluh Kota in the 1st half semester of 2011/2012 academic year through the application of the Jigsaw method of cooperative learning techniques. This study was conducted in two cycles. The results of this study showed an increase in activity of the learner, the average value of learning outcomes, and learning completeness of learners. The conclusion of this study is that there are increased activities in the learning of learners in Citizenship Education by using the Cooperative Learning Jigsaw techniques so as to improve learning outcomes in class XII2 IPS SMA Negeri 1 of Suliki Subdistrict, the District of Limapuluh Kota. Abstract

ABSTARCT As an ethnic group Minangkabau people was influenced by many conditions developed around them, like scio-cultural, value system they had, beliefs and religious, and status and roles they played. Based on those conditions, Minangkabau people has been well-known with their unique community structure and leadership pattern in the past. This condition had been running in harmony until the coming of Japanese colonialism in 1943. This pattern of leadership had been changed and tended to be disfunctional. In their colonialism era, Japanese tried to use the Tungku Tigo Sajarangan (the pattern of Minangkabau traditional leadership) as a tool for maintaining their power over Minangkabau colony. Abstract

Mass media should ideally function as information, education and entertainment channels. However, in Indonesia, the mass media perform its function more as entertainment through many channels such as infotainment shows that more charged in Indonesian celebrity gossip. This often raises a lot of Indonesian social problems in society as one of the unplanned effects by the media. As part of the social sciences, science of communication should be able to provide insight to the media as communicators to be more intelligent to educate the people of Indonesia so many social problems that arise as a result of unplanned effects by the media could at least be minimized. Abstract

In the current civics lesson, students often experience boredom and tends to just lecture to simply look for value alone. This is due to the material being taught monotonous, theoretical, cognitive nature, even verbalistic. In the course it appears that the students just come, sit down, shut up and go home and some have fallen asleep. Although the discussion of the methods applied in lectures, but students and lecturers are more likely to lead to the questioning, rarely exchanging information, let alone understanding, not able to analyze and comment on the information that is different, and not many are active but more so the audience, so the ability critical thinking and interpersonal skills difficult to achieve. This resulted in "disruption" process of character formation of students as embodied the vision, mission, and goals of the Civic Education. For that one of the efforts is to develop a simple method and a simple discussion, starting from the preparation phase, the implementation phase and the closing phase. Abstract

ABSTRACT   Citizen Charter or public service contract is a new strategy in providing services to reach  the  values of participative, accountable, transparent and collaborative in public service. We know that implementation of public service contract in Indonesia is not understood by local policy maker yet. But, many local governments have successfully implemented contract of public service.  It means that public service contract can be tool of creating public service mechanism better and it can be instrument to reform public bureaucracy in Indonesia. Citizen Charter is according to idea of good governance, so governance principles is collaborate of three sector in public service, such as local government, private sector and society. Abstract

This study was carried out to look at the effect of participation in well known adventure mountaineering expeditions in Peninsular Malaysia, namely Chamah-Ulu Sepat and Trans Titiwangsa expeditions on the score of participants’ critical thinking skill. The study population were public university students who participated in one of the aforementioned expeditions within the period of data collection which was during the long break during the second semester academic session and the first semester of academic session. This study utilizes an established instrument developed by Watson and Glaser which is potentially able to help achieve the study objective, taking into consideration the validity and reliability of the construct and its suitability with the respondents. The findings of the study reveal that there is a significant difference between the score of critical thinking skill of the participants before and after the adventure climb.  However, mean scores between the two expeditions reveals that they do not differ significantly.Therefore, it can be concluded that students participation in mountaineering expeditions can be used as a training method to enhance their critical thinking skills. The study adds to another approach of increasing the level of critical thinking skill through adventure mountaineering expeditions in Peninsular Malaysia.Keywords: Critical Thinking Skills, Training and Development, Incidental Learning, Adventure Training

Abstract

This article analyzes the existence of civics education learning as a value education in building the character of the nation. Imple-mentation of character education in schools should be grounded to the basic character values​​, which subsequently developed into the values ​​that better suit the needs, conditions, and school environment itself. Basically, success in life is not determined by a person's knowledge and skills, but also by the ability to manage themselves and others. This suggests that the quality of character education of students are very important to be improved. Character education in schools should begin by giving confidence to students to be able to do positive things in their everyday lives.
