Abstract

Introduction: Orthodontic treatment is one of treatment in the field of dentistry by moving the teeth to correct malocclusion and malposition of the teeth. After treatment is complete, there is still the possibility of relapse, which is the process of moving the teeth to their original position before orthodontic treatment. It is still a complex problem after the end of orthodontic treatment. Objective: This literature review aims to examine the process and mechanism of relapse so that it can be additional information in efforts to prevent relapse. Discussion: Relapse can occur due to various factors and relapse occurs rapidly on day 1 to day 24 after removal of the orthodontic appliance. Orthodontic tooth movement and relapse movement will show an increase in the number of osteoclasts in areas of stress and a decrease in the number of osteoclasts in areas of tension. This suggests that alveolar bone remodeling is an important element in the process of relapse. Conclusion: Efforts to deal with relapse need to be carried out with various approaches, including pharmacologically which can affect the alveolar bone remodeling process, especially in osteoclast cells which play a role in the process of tooth relapse movement. Abstract

Background: Bone loss has a major impact on the process of placing implants and dentures. Nanoparticle hydroxyapatite (HANP) has better biodegradability and mechanical properties than micro-particle hydroxyapatite. PVA is a synthetic polymer that is cheap, hydrophilic, has high mechanical stability and flexibility but low biodegradability. PLGA is a new synthetic polymer which is widely used in the biomedical, however PLGA has less osteoconductive properties. The ideal scaffold has several important characteristics, one of which is having a porosity of>70%.  Objective: To know the role of PLGA on the porosity of the scaffold by comparing the porosity of the HANP-PVA scaffold and the HANP-PVA scaffold given PLGA Methods: Group 1 was the HANP-PVA scaffold with a content of 20% HANP (w / w). Group 2 was the HANP-PVA scaffold which added 20% (w/w) of PLGA. Both groups were synthesized by freeze drying method at -80oC for 24 hours. The porosity test was used the liquid displacement method for 24 hours. Statistical testing using Shapiro Wilk, Levene's test and Independent t-Test Results: The porosity of the HANP-PVA scaffold was 77.90% ± 4.51 and the HANP-PVA-PLGA scaffold was 87.55% ± 5.67. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that the data were normally distributed (p> 0.05). The independent t test showed a significant difference between the HANP-PVA and HANP-PVA-PLGA scaffold (p <0.05) Conclusions: The addition of PLGA to the scaffold can increase the porosity of the HANP-PVA scaffold. HANP-PVA-PLGA has the potential to accelerate bone regeneration after extraction  Keyword: bone loss, PVA, PLGA, Hydroxyapatite nanoparticle

Abstract

Background: Traumatic ulcers are generally caused by physical, chemical, or thermal trauma. When an ulcer occurs, wound healing processes such as hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling occur. In the wound healing process, the expression level of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) must be tightly controlled because increased expression of MMP-9 can delay wound healing by degrading the extracellular matrix (ECM) and collagen uncontrollably. Nanotransfersome gel of lime peel extract (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids which have anti-inflammatory properties and can accelerate the wound healing process. Nanotransfersomes can improve tissue localization and minimize excessive drug release. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of lime peel extract nanotransfersome gel on the expression of MMP-9 on wound healing of wistar rats ulcers. Methods: This study used 4 groups of wistar rats with time series on days 3 and 7, namely the control group, the treatment group given lime peel extract, the treatment group given lime peel extract nanotransfersome gel, and the treatment group given standardized herbal medicine. Observation of the MMP-9 using 400x magnification. Result: Data analysis using One Way Anova test showed that there were significant differences in MMP-9 expression in the treatment groups K7 with P7B and P7A with P7B. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that lime extract nanotransfersome gel can reduce MMP-9 expression in wound healing of wistar rats ulcers.   Keywords: wound healing, ulcers, nanotransfersome gel of lime peel extract, matrix metalloproteina

Abstract

Introductions: Radiology plays a vital role in dentistry as a supporting examination. However, dental X-rays pose risks of deterministic and stochastic effects. Therefore, it is necessary to comply with the use of dental X-rays and radiation protection according to the ALARA principle. Perception is the process of receiving messages that are processed into an understanding of the messages received. Meanwhile, compliance is a form of action as the result of the emergence of perceptions with some influencing factors such as the working period. Purpose: This research aims to determine the relationship between the length of study and students' perceptions of compliance with the ALARA principle in the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Brawijawa. Methods: This research was conducted through an online survey using social media and the sample was determined using a purposive sampling technique. It used a questionnaire to assess students' perceptions of compliance with the ALARA principle. A total of 196 respondents were selected from three batches adjusted to the target study group. Results: The results showed that the average total score of respondents' perceptions of compliance with the ALARA principle was 73.81 (SD=6.16) and respondents were dominated by a high level of compliance (96.43%). The value of this correlation was calculated and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results of the Spearman correlation test showed that the strength of the positive correlation is weak with a significance score of 0.855 (sig > 0.05). Conclusions: There is no significant relationship between the length of study and students' perceptions of compliance with the ALARA principle in the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Brawijawa. Abstract

Providing the best denture treatment for patients with tooth mobility is quite challenging and requires a collaboration between the prosthodontist and periodontist. This study aims to describe the use of a metal frame removable partial denture with a swing lock as a suitable treatment option for individuals who suffer periodontal disease-related with tooth mobility. The case is a 55-year-old male patient complained of mobility and several diastemas in his lower front teeth. The patient claimed to regularly visit an internist for checks despite having diabetes mellitus. The patient asked to get his teeth fixed. He wanted to properly chew his food while wearing the denture. Treatments for the patient included DHE, scaling, and root planing. A bone transplant and periodontal flap operation were subsequently planned for the patient the following week. A metal-frame partial denture with a swing lock will be the patient's final treatment. Metal frame partial denture is one of the treatment options as a periodontal splint to treat the tooth with mobility. Metal frame partial denture with swing lock is an alternative treatment for conditions related to periodontal disease that require optimum stabilization.
