Abstract

Background: NiTi rotary file is an instrument that famous for its flexible and strong properties. Instrument fracture during preparation due to cyclic fatigue is one of the main causes of rotary file fracture. The geometric shape of a rotary file will determine its resistance properties because it is in direct contact with the root canal wall and will determine its resistance to cyclic fatigue. Objective: This study aims to determine the difference in cyclic fatigue fracture resistance of two heat treated rotary files that have different geometric shape. Methods: The research inserted rotary files with an endomotor operating at 400 rpm and 2.0 torque into artificial stainless steel root canals with a 90-degree curvature and 2 mm diameter, treated with 5.25% NaOCl. It included two groups (flat design and S-Shape), each with 5 samples, and measured the duration of each sample using a stopwatch. Results: This research show that there is a significant difference in time (p<0.05). Conclusion: The flat design rotary file shows stronger resistance to cyclic fatigue fracture compared to the S-Shape rotary file.

Abstract

Background: Pulp necrosis is a condition in which the pulp of an immature tooth dies partially or completely due to inflammation that must be treated immediately so that root growth does not stop. Recently, regenerative endodontic procedures (REP) have been successfully used to treat necrotic immature teeth. REP is believed to be a biological treatment designed to replace damaged physiological structures of the tooth, including dentin, root structures, and the pulp-dentin complex. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of 3D printed polycaprolactone (PCL) hydrogel scaffold combined with ellagic acid from pomegranate peel extract on the increase in odontoblast cells in regenerative endodontic treatment. Methods: The research method used was true experimental with a Post Test Only Randomized Control Group Design. The samples were randomly divided into four groups: a control group induced by pulp necrosis and not given 3D printed PCL hydrogel scaffold, and three treatment groups induced by pulp necrosis and given 3D printed PCL hydrogel scaffold with variations in the ratio of chitosan:ellagic acid 1:10, 2:10, and 3:20. Results: The test results showed an increase in odontoblasts in each treatment group with the most significant increase at a ratio of 2:10. Conclusion: The combination of 3D printed PCL hydrogel scaffold and ellagic acid from pomegranate peel extract influences the increase in odontoblast cells in regenerative endodontic treatment. Keywords: regenerative endodontics, 3D printed PCL hydrogel scaffold, ellagic acid, odontoblast.

Abstract

Introduction: Facial profile analysis is crucial for evaluating aesthetics in orthodontic treatment planning.Cephalometry analysis (Steiner) assesses soft tissue structure through the S-line, while photometry lateralanalysis (Proffit) focuses on soft tissue angles with a more comprehensive approach. This study evaluates thecorrelation between these two methods in patients at the FKG UB Clinic. Objective: To determine thecorrelation between facial profiles assessed by Steiner’s cephalometric analysis and Proffit’s photometricanalysis at FKG UB Clinic. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 30 patients meeting theinclusion criteria (aged ≥17 years, regardless of prior orthodontic treatment, with high-quality lateralcephalometric and photometric data). Data were analyzed using the Spearman test. Results: The correlationcoefficient of 0.247 with a p-value of 0.188 (p > 0.05) indicated no significant relationship between the twomethods. Most results from both methods showed convex facial profiles, with some differences caused byphoto-taking techniques. Conclusion: There is no significant correlation between Steiner and Proffit analyses. However, both methods complement each other, and their combined use can improve the accuracy ofdiagnosis and orthodontic treatment planning. Keywords: Steiner analysis, Proffit analysis, cephalometry, photometry lateral, facial profile.

Abstract

Traumatic ulcers are traumatic wounds that occur on the oral mucosa resulting in loss of surface epithelium. The process of healing ulcers involves angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels. Treatment of traumatic ulcers uses Triamcinolone acetonide, but it has side effects so alternative medicines are needed with antiinflammatory herbal plants, namely black cumin and mangosteen peel which have been proven to speed up wound healing. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a combination gel of black cumin extract (Nigella sativa L.) and mangosteen peel (Garcinia mangostana L.) on angiogenesis of traumatic ulcer wound healing in wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This research method uses a Randomized Post Test Only Controlled Group Design in vivo with 40 male Wistar rats, divided into groups are negative control (K-), positive control (K+), and treatments (P1, P2, P3) with two time series. Samples were obtained from the traumatic ulcer area on the labial mucosa of the lower jaw of wistar rats, then HE stained and observed with a light microscope with a magnification of 400 times. The gel treatment group with a combination of black cumin extract (Nigella sativa L.) and mangosteen peel (Garcinia mangostana L.) showed a higher average number of blood vessels and has the potential for a faster healing process for traumatic ulcers than the other groups. The results of the research can be concluded that the combination gel of black cumin extract (Nigella sativa L.) and mangosteen peel (Garcinia mangostana L.) has an effect on angiogenesis in healing traumatic ulcer wounds in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus).

Abstract

Saliva or spit is a complex fluid that plays an important role produced by the salivary glands to maintain the balance of the ecosystem in the mouth. The acidity in saliva is influenced by Streptococcus mutans because it can accelerate the process of creating an acidic environment in saliva. The infusion of garlic (Allium Sativum) contains allicin, ajoene, flavonoids, and essential oils that can inhibit the growth of the bacteria Streptococcus mutans. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of garlic (Allium Sativum) decoction on the pH of saliva artificially induced by Streptococcus mutans in vitro. This research employs a True Experimental Design, specifically the Pretest and Posttest Control Group Design. The concentrations used in this study are 25%, 50%, and 100%. The results indicate a difference in the pH levels of artificial saliva that has been induced by Streptococcus mutans and treated with garlic decoction in vitro. The data analysis utilized correlation and regression tests, showing an influence of 73.3% of garlic decoction on the pH of artificial saliva. Independent T-test showed a significant difference between the same groups with different observation times, namely in treatment 1 day 2 with treatment 1 day 3 of 0.013 (p<0.05). Based on this research, it can be concluded that garlic boiled water has an effect and relationship in increasing the pH of saliva artificially induced by Streptococcus mutans in vitro.

Abstract

Background The wound healing process after tooth extraction includes inflammation, granulation tissue formation, intracellular matrix deposition and tissue remodeling. IL-6 acts as a biomarker of the inflammatory process. In old age, especially women, the menopause process cannot be avoided and at that age the need for tooth extraction treatment is quite high. If there is failure in the wound healing process, in this case the inflammation process will prolong, increasing the probability of infection, one of which is alveolar osteitis. The menopause process affects estrogen levels in the blood, so the formation of collagen as the main ingredient for tissue regeneration is reduced, and IL-6 can increase during times of inflammation, especially the chronic phase. Objectives This study compared inflammatory IL-6 levels using the ELISA method in menopausal and non-menopausal mice. Methode In this study there were 10 rats (rattus novergicus) which were then grouped into 2 groups, namely control and treatment. Control group where no oophorectomy was performed (non-menopausal) while the treatment was carried out by oophorectomy (menopause). Then 1 month later, the tooth was extracted and observed on the 3rd day after extraction. Result showed that the average IL6 level in the control group was 0.0868 (ng/L) and in the treatment group was 0.1912 (ng/L). then continued with the Mann Whitney non-parametric statistical test with a significance level of 95% (p<0.05). Conclusions There was a significant difference between the treatment and control groups, where IL-6 levels in the menopausal group were higher than in the non-menopausal group.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a condition of hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormal insulin secretion. This condition causes an increase in Reactive Oxygen Species, thereby reducing the production of growth factors such as TGF-β for fibroblast synthesis. Traumatic ulcers are ulcerative lesions characterized by the loss of the epithelial layer due to trauma. Binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) contain flavonoids and saponins that can accelerate wound healing. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effect of binahong leaf extract gel (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) on the number of fibroblast cells in the healing of traumatic ulcers in white rats with diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study used a true experimental design in vivo with 32 male Wistar rats divided into 4 groups with 2 time series. The variable being studied is the average number of fibroblast cells observed on the 5th and 7th days. The doses of binahong leaf extract gel (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) used were 10% and 20%. Result: The group given 10% and 20% binahong leaf extract gel showed an increase in the number of fibroblasts compared to the other control groups. This difference is significant compared to the control group based on the Post-hoc Tuckey test with a p-value <0.05. Conclusion: The gel of binahong leaf extract (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) significantly increases the number of fibroblast cells in the healing of traumatic ulcers of the labial mucosa in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain induced by diabetes mellitus, and a concentration of 10% is quite effective for the healing of traumatic ulcers. Keywords: Binahong leaf, diabetes melitus, fibroblast, traumatic ulcers, wound healing.
