Abstract

The present research focuses on flouting maxim in Bohemian Rhapsody movie. The aim of this research is to find out the types of flouting maxim found in Bohemian Rhapsody movie. The data were taken from the Bohemian Rhapsody movie that has been downloaded and they are collected through observation and taking note technique. In this research, the researcher focused on the theory of Grice (1975) in analysing the type of flouting maxims. The descriptive qualitative method was used in analysing the data found in this research. In analysing the data, the researcher used the theory from Grice (1975) about Logic and conversation. Based on Grice theory (1975) “flouting maxims belong to the form of non-observe conversation principle”. The result of the research shows that the types of flouting maxim found in the movie are 44 data. The dominant flouting maxim did by the characters in this movie is the flouting maxim of manner with the frequency of 15 data (34%), following by flouting maxim of quality with frequency of 12 data (27%), next is flouting maxim of quantity with frequency 9 data (21%), and the last one flouting the maxim of relevance which is the type of flouting maxim that occurs the least in this Bohemian Rhapsody movie with a frequency of 8 data (18%). From the data that has been got in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, the character who does the most flouting the maxim is the main character in this movie, Freddie Mercury did all types of floating the maxim. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakter serigala dalam tiga dongeng anak yang menjadikan serigala sebagai antagonis dan pandangan sosial masyarakat yang menyebabkan serigala sering menjadi antagonis dalam sastra anak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan pendekatan sosiologis terhadap karya sastra. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa serigala sebagai tokoh antagonis seringkali ditampilkan sebagai makhluk yang menakutkan dari segi fisik dengan kepribadian dan reputasi buruk di masyarakat. Pandangan orang terhadap serigala sebagai hewan yang mengerikan lahir ratusan tahun yang lalu, tanpa penelitian yang intens orang beranggapan bahwa serigala adalah ancaman bagi manusia, ternak, dan sumber daya alam. Abstract

The goals of this study is (1) to identify the different types of adjective phrase translation shifts and (2) to analyzes how the translation equivalent of adjective phrase appears in the subtitle Red Notice Movie 2021 translation shift. The theory from Catford (1965) was used to analyze the varieties of translation shift of adjective phrase translation shifts, while the theory from Bell (1991) was used to analyze the translation equivalent. This study used observation to collect data and qualitative descriptive analysis to analyze the data. Red Notice 2021 was used as a data source. The result of this study got 64 data for the total in the types of translation shift are 23 level shifts, 11 structure shifts, 9 class shifts, and 21 unit shifts, except intra-system shift. Meanwhile, the translation equivalent results are 25 fully equivalent, 33 meaning decreases, 1 meaning increase, and non-equivalent. 4 different meanings, 1 meaningless Level shifts are the most common, and class shifts are the least common. Meanwhile, decreased meaning is the most common type of translation equivalent, increased meaning is the least data in partial equivalent, and no meaning is the least data in non-equivalent. Moreover, translation shifts are required to address these issues and to serve as a strategy for forming the equivalent. Keywords: Translation Shift, Translation Equivalent, Adjective Phrase

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to identify the kinds of category shift and describe how the principles of translation occurs in the translation of noun phrase in Five Little Pigs novel. In this study the data was taken from a novel by Agatha Christie (1942) entitled Five Little Pigs as the source language and its translated version in Indonesian entitled Mengungkit Pembunuhan as the target language. The data were collected by using observation method and combine with note taking method to find out and classify the data. The theory used in analyzing the data ware a theory of Category Shift proposed by Catford (1965) and a theory of principles of translation by Nida (1975). Descriptive qualitative method was used to analyze the data. The findings of this study demonstrate that all kinds of category shifts were discovered in the novel's translation of noun phrases. The most frequent data found was the structure shift consisting of 155 data or 49.3%. The second is unit shift that has 108 data or 34.3%, the third was class shift which reach the number of 31 data or 9.8%. And the last is intra-system shift consisting 20 data or 6.3% percentages out of the total data were 314 data. Moreover, for the principles of translation, the highest frequency found is gain of information with 139 data or 44% out of 314 data. Abstract

The aims of this research are to analyze the taboo words in the subtitle of Project X movie. According to Wardhaugh (2010:239), Taboo is the restriction or avoidance of action in any community that is thought to be harmful to its members, generating them worry, embarrassment, or shame. The use of taboo words can be found in our conversation on a daily basis and also in the entertainment, for instance in a movie. This study aims at (1) find out the taboo expression in the Project X movie, (2) categorizing and analyzing translation strategies used by the translator in translating taboo expressions found in the subtitle of the Project X movie, This study is a descriptive qualitative study. The data comes from the film Project X. The data comes from the movie's subtitles, which contain prohibited terms. This study uses Batistella's (2005) theory to define the different sorts of taboo words, as well as Baker's (1992) theory to examine the translation strategy. According to the findings, there are four categories of taboo expressions among the eighty data points examined. They are epithet (twenty five data), profanity (eight data) Vulgarity (thirty seven data), and obscenity (ten data). For the translation strategies are used translating taboo expressions, the results show that there are eight types of translation strategies. They are translation by more general word (nineteen data), translation by more neutral word/less expressive word (eight data), translation by cultural substitution (thirteen data), translation using loan word or loan word plus explanation (five data), translation by paraphrase using a related word (twelve data), translation paraphrase using unrelated word (two data), translation by omission (nineteen data), and translation by illustration (two data). Abstract

This research aimed about the types of illocutionary acts found in After movie. The researcher used the theory from Searle (1976) in order to find out the types of illocutionary acts. Meanwhile, to analyze the meaning based on the context of situation, the researcher used the theory from Halliday and Hassan (1985). The main data source of this study is After movie. Observation method and note taking technique are used in this study to collect the data. This study used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the types of illocutionary acts and the meaning based on the context of situation. In this research there are 27 data were found in After movie. All the types of illocutionary acts were found in this research which are Assertive, Directive, Commissive, Expressive and Declarative. Abstract

This study focuses on analysing the types and function of taboo words found in Lil Dicky’s Song on Album Professional Rapper. The data source was taken from Lil Dicky’s Song on Album Professional Rapper it was released on July 31, 2015. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this study to describe the use of taboo words in song lyrics. In this study, the descriptive qualitative method was used to describe the use of taboo words in song lyrics. The method was used to offer a clear analysis of the data based on the theory. This study employed the theory from Batistella (2005) which is proposed to analyse the type of taboo words found in Lil Dicky’s Song on Album Professional Rapper and the theory from Wardhaugh (2006) which is proposed to analyse the functions of taboo words found in Lil Dicky’s Song on Album Professional Rapper. Based on the analyses there are 295 data about the types and functions of taboo words found. There are four types of taboo words found those are epithet, profanity, vulgarity and obscenity. Obscenity becomes the most types found in the lyrics of the song which found 152 times. And Profanity becomes the least types found which is found 19. And four functions of taboo words are found in the song lyrics those are to show contempt, to draw attention to oneself, to be provocative, and to mock authority. The most function found is to show contempt which is found 107 times and to mock authority becomes the least functions with only found 3 times. Keywords: Taboo words, Types, Functions, Song lyrics

Abstract

This paper is entitled "Depiction of feminism concept in Disney animated movie: Encanto 2021". The goal of this paper is to describe how the concept of Feminism is portrayed and which feminisms appear in the Disney animated film Encanto. As a result, the concept of Feminism is the object of this research. In this regard, the data used in this study are those related to the concept of feminism, and they are taken from a conversation between characters in the film. The movie script transcription is used to qualify this study in addition to the conversation transcription. The qualitative-descriptive method is used to describe data and analysis in a structured manner. The qualitative research method is used to generate descriptive data in the form of sentences and paragraphs. Based on the analysis, Encanto’s women characters are identified as independent woman and has a several feminism values in themselves, such as liberal feminism value, ecofeminism value, and also socialist feminism value. Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the main character by using feminism approach in the novel The Da Vinci Code. The study concerns to find out the feminism theory based on Julia Kristeva’s. This study applied descriptive qualitative method in the data collected by library techniques namely document and analyzing the data used data reduction, data display, and data verification. The findings showed that characteristic of the main character is an educated women, a brave woman and a powerful women. The findings shows the 3 types of feminism, liberal, radical, and cultural. The findings show that The Holy Grail symbolizes the quest to retrieve the time-honored “Feminism Worship” and to promote the self-consciousness of women. Abstract

This current study examines university students’ motivational orientations towards English language learning. This study conducts a semi-structured interview to gain rich data. To achieve the objective successfully, 6 students who take an English language major at a university in Bandung, Indonesia were interviewed to provide answers related to English language learning motivation. The results of this study have demonstrated the participants’ positive motivations towards English language learning. Through data analysis, the respondents positively express their strong motivations towards English language learning as they have a personal interest in English, the international language. Mastering English could help them adapt to this globalization era, and the status of English is essential as its use is immensely wide in many sectors. Yet, they understand that the status of Bahasa Indonesia and maintaining it are also crucial to their identity. Keywords: English language learning, English, Motivational orientation
