Abstract

Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) has many benefits, especially in its seeds, commonly used as a food flavoring. Pepper effectively increases appetite, increases the digestive glands' activity, and accelerates fatty substances' digestion. In general, pepper production per unit area in Indonesia is low. The average is below 1 ton of dry pepper per hectare. This low productivity is mainly due to inadequate cultivation techniques, such as improper fertilization and inadequate care. The development of pepper cultivation is still running slowly due to the many obstacles faced by farmers. This productivity could be increased if farmers could apply good and correct cultivation techniques. Generally, pepper cultivation in Indonesia uses standards. This technique is expensive and requires intensive maintenance. The pepper seeds commonly planted by farmers come from running shoots. The experimental design used was the split-plot design with shade netting as the first factor and the administration of husk charcoal as the second factor. Other factors observed were climatic factors, including temperature and relative humidity, bird bud burst time, sprouting time, and root-shoot ratio. The results indicated that the shade netting and husk charcoal treatment on the planting medium significantly affected bird bud burst time, sprouting time, and root-shoot ratio. This study aimed to investigate the effect of climate on the growth of pepper cuttings. The results indicated that the best bird bud burst time occurred in treatment n0 (100%), a0 (1:1) 34.67 days, and not significantly different from n0 (100%) a2 (0: 1) 35.00 days. The best sprouting time occurred in treatment n0 (100%) a2 (0: 1) 32.00 days, not significantly different from n0 (100%) a0 (1: 1) 32.50 days. The root-shoot ratio was significantly different in treatment n0 (100%) a1 (1; 0) 5.28 g.

Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) identify the interaction effect between varieties and mixed doses of urea + ZA on the growth and yield of shallots in Ultisol soil; (2) to identify the effect of each shallot varieties and the dosage mixture of urea + ZA which produce the highest yield in Ultisol soils. The research was conducted from April to June 2019 in Tungkaran Village, Martapura, with a split plot design. The main plot was shallot varieties (V) with three levels, namely Biru Lancor (v1), Bima Brebes (v2), and Super Philip (v3). Subplots were a mixture of urea + ZA (P) with four levels, namely 0 kg urea + 600 kg ZA (p1), 100 kg urea + ZA 400 kg (p2), 200 kg urea + 200 kg ZA (p3), and 300 urea kg + ZA 0 kg (p4). Each experiment was repeated three times. Therefore, there were 36 experimental units. Observation parameters included plant height, number of leaves per clump, number of bulbs per clump, fresh bulbs' weight per clump, and yield of stored dry bulbs. The results showed that the Bima Brebes variety (v2) had a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, number of bulbs per clump, the weight of fresh bulbs per clump, and yield of stored dry bulbs. The mixture of 200 kg urea + 200 g ZA (p3) significantly affected plant height, number of leaves, number of tubers per clump, the weight of fresh tubers per clump, and yield of stored dry tubers.

Abstract

Green mustard (Brassica juncea L.) is a popular vegetable among the people. Green mustard leaves are commonly used as complementary ingredients such as chicken noodle, meatballs, etc. These vegetables are easily accessible to traditional markets, supermarket, and mall. The main obstacle in cultivating green mustard is Plutella xylostella attack. P. xylostella pests can attack both vegetative and generative, striking at the shoots and leaves of plants from breeding to harvesting. One of the effective and safe controls is the bioinsecticide Bacillus thuringiensis. Tukungan soil is a swamp land management technology that aims to diversify commodities that can be planted. This technology is very helpful in utilizing and maximizing existing agricultural land, especially in South Kalimantan. The bioinsecticide material used is a strain of B. thuringiensis which is the Turex WP. This research aims to determine the best dose of bioinsecticide B. thuringiensis (Turex WP) in controlling P. xylostella pests, increasing growth and yield of green mustard in tukungan soils. The research used a one-factor randomized block design, namely the dose of bioinsecticide (Turex WP) consisting of five treatments: p0 = 0 g/L, p1 = 0.5 g/L, p2 = 1 g/L, p3 = 1.5 g/L, and p4 = 2g/L. The results showed that the bioinsecticide B. thuringiensis (Turex WP) with a dose of 2 g/L was effective in controlling P. xylostella pests, increasing growth and yield of green mustard in tukungan soils.

Abstract

Learning during the COVID-19 pandemic tends to be less developed students' skills. Based on the facts, many elementary school teachers in South Kalimantan are experiencing difficulties because there are limited models and strategies to implement online learning. This reason encourages developing the innovation blended learning model. Innovation on this study is the the product of developing blended learning model with the syntax are Group, Analysis, Work Together, Inform, Solve the problem on outdoor, Actualization of solution, Battle games, Unity on role play, Manage conclusion and Invent the creation (GAWI SABUMI). The purpose of this study is to produce a new learning model and find out the effectiveness of the GAWI SABUMI learning model to improve the ecological awareness and high order thinking skills of elementary school students in Banjarmasin. This study used the type of research and development consisted of three phases to find the effectiveness of the model on the dependent variable through the quasi-experimental research. The study sample was 40 students on an elementary school in Banjarmasin. The result of quality evaluation of the blended learning model GAWI SABUMI was at a high level (X= 4.62) (SD = 0.14). Students had post-test learning skills scores higher than pre-test at .01 level of significance which means that the GAWI SABUMI model meets the criteria of being valid, reliable, and feasible to be implemented and potential to improve students' high order thinking skills and ecological awareness.

Abstract

Acid sulfate soils are one of the potential lands for agriculture with appropriate treatment. The main problem in these soils is the chemical properties, which is high in acidity and limited nutrients availability and Fe and Al toxicity. Amelioration techniques are needed to improve the chemical properties of the soil, which is oyster mushroom baglog waste compost. This research aims to study the effect of oyster mushroom baglog waste (OMBW) compost to soil chemical properties, also to know the best dosage which affects chemical properties. The research was conducted at the greenhouse of the Agroecotechnology Department and the Laboratory of the Soil Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru. The research was started from August-October 2020. One-factor completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and five replications was used, the b0 treatment was not OMBW compost, b1 was 5 t ha-1, b2 was 10 t ha-1, b3 was 15 t ha-1, and b4 was 20 t ha-1. The application of the OMBW compost significantly affected the soil pH and decreased soluble-Fe and Al, but did not significantly affect the Eh value at 2 WAA (Week After Application). The best concentration of dose of OMBW compost was 10 t ha-1 which improved soil pH, decreased soluble-Fe and Al.

Abstract

Arthropoda Preference Test has been carried out on Zinnia Sp. In paddy plantations (Oryza sativa L.). This study aims to determine the level of arthropod diversity in paddy cultivation areas using Zinnia sp. compared to rice without Zinnia sp. The method used is a survey method with purposive sampling which was determined intentionally. The results of the comparison of the 2 treatments showed that in the vegetative phase the number of pests, predators, and parasitoids was more without treatment than using treatment, while the generative phase used less treatment than without treatment. Indeed, from the number of species obtained, there was no signicant difference, but it was seen from the number of fewer pests and more predators with refugia plantations compared to those without refugia. This is evidenced by the comparison of rice yields obtained more with treatment than without treatment 561:429 in units of kg.

Abstract

The lotus is one of the aquatic plants that grow in the Lebak area and is widely used as food and medicine by the local community. The lotus growing environment determines its growth. The distribution of lotus plants has not been well identified. This study aims to determine the distribution of lotus mapping for environmental evaluation of lotus growing in Teluk Sinar Village, Sungai Pandan District, Hulu Sungai Utara Regency, South Kalimantan Province. The study used data collection methods with primary and secondary data survey techniques. Primary survey through delineation of lotus plant boundaries in the field. Field measurements were also carried out to identify the environmental variables of lotus growing. In addition, the interpretation of high-resolution satellite imagery and low-resolution satellite imagery for spectral analysis. The environmental variables for growing lotus include water depth, light penetration depth, water pH, and sediment pH. The results of the study revealed a map of the distribution of lotus and the growing environment of the lotus. The lotus distribution map was obtained from the results of overlaying several thematic maps, image interpretation, and field measurements using Arc View and Arc GIS software. The distribution of lotus plants can grow in an environment with a water depth of 35-121 cm, a light penetration depth of 23-100 cm, a water pH of 6.25-8.37, and a sediment pH of 3.33-4.69. The results of the Lotus Distribution Mapping and the Lotus growing environment obtained can be used as a basis for determining the potential distribution of Lotus in each region.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal level of use of sago pith silage to replace rice bran in the ration on the production performance of male Peking ducks. The research treatments included: T0 = No sago pith silage (control), T1 = Use of 5% sago pith silage in the ration, T2 = Use of 10% sago pith silage in the ration, T3 = Use of 15% sago pith silage in the ration, T4 = Use of sago pith silage 20% in the ration. The experimental diet contained 16% crude protein and 3000 kcal/kg metabolizable energy. The Pekin ducks used in this experiment were 2 weeks old. The research design used was a complete randomized design using five feeding treatments, five replications, and four ducks per replication pens. The parameters measured were feed intake, weight gain, body weight, feed conversion, the percentages of carcass, giblet, and abdominal fat at 8 weeks of age. The results showed that the use of sago pith silage had no significant effect on feed consumption, weight gain, body weight, feed conversion, and the percentages of carcass and giblet. However, the use of sago pith silage increased abdominal fat. It can be concluded that the use of sago pith silage up to 20% to replace rice bran in the ration has no negative effects on the performance and carcass quality of ducks.

Abstract

About 22,000 hectares are planned to be converted to oil palm plantations by the local government. However, this area has been the source of livelihood for the Banjar people for generations. This economic-environmental services valuation was carried out using a total valuation approach. Previous studies have shown that swamps have economic benefits as a source of water for rice farming (Oryza sativa), timber (Melaleuca cajuputi), fisheries, handicraft crops (Eleocharis dulcis), and for drinking water. They also have ecological benefits in biological functions such as fish feed and breeding grounds, Galam (Melaleuca leucadendron) breeding, water storage, carbonate stocks, and biodiversity value. The total economic value was 21.3 million IDR per ha, with a ratio of the economic value of 7.15% and the value of ecosystem services (ecological) of 92.85%.

Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) determine the effect of various doses of arbuscular mycorrhizae with SP-36 fertilizer on the growth of butternut squash in the swampy land; (2) determine the best combination of various doses of arbuscular mycorrhizae with SP-36 fertilizer on the growth and of butternut squash in the swampy land. The research was carried out in the Green House of SMK PP Negeri Banjarbaru from October 2020 to November 2021. The study used a factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with 2 factors. The fist factor was arbuscular mycorrhizae dose (M) which consisted of 4 levels, namely: m0 = Control ; m1 = 5 g tan - 1 equivalent to 0.1 ton ha - 1;m2 = 10 g tan - 1 equivalent to 0.2 ton ha - 1; m3 = 15 g tan - 1 equivalent to 0.3 ton ha - 1.The second factor was SP-36 fertilizer dose (S) fertilizer which consists of 4 levels, namely: s0 = Control; s1 = 1,39 g tan - 1 equivalent to 0,125 ton ha - 1; s2 = 2,22 g tan - 1 equivalent to 0,2 ton ha - ; s3 = 3.06 g tan - 1 equivalent to 0.275 ton ha- 1, combination repeated 3 (three) times, with 6 polybags of them, so that there were 288 plants in total. The result showed that there was an interaction effect on the volume of roots at 2 and 4 weeks after planting, shoot dry weight, root dry weight and shoot root ratio. The single factor of application of arbuscular mycorrhizae and SP-36 fertilizer each had a very significant effect on root colonization. Combination of arbuscular mycorrhizae at a dose of 10 g ton - 1 equivalent to 0.2 ton ha- 1 and SP-36 fertilizer at a dose of 3.06 g ton - 1 equivalent to 0.275 ton ha – 1 could increase the growth of butternut squash in the swampy land.
