Abstract

This research explores whether the expression monogenes represents the meaning of a child, an only child, or whether it is intended to emphasize begotten children. This topic is important to research because errors in understanding the meaning of the expression monogenes will have implications for understanding Christology. The term monogenes has generated much debate. The most prominent discussion is whether this expression wants to emphasize only or only begotten. Therefore, the author seeks to find the answer through this research. The method used is a literature study focusing on the term monogenes used in the Gospel of John. The research results show that the term monogenes in the Gospel of John emphasizes the exclusive relationship between Jesus Christ and God the Father where this relationship does not have to be in the framework of a metaphysical relationship or begotten relationship - because that is not what the term monogenes wants to emphasize - but rather the specificity of that relationship later. At the same time, he noted that Jesus was essentially the same as the Father. The explanation above is based on the realization that the term monogenes does not come from the word genna but from the word genos.

Abstract

This research is motivated by differences in views between revisionists and traditional understanding of the interpretation of Romans 1:26-27. The text in Romans 1:26-27 is traditionally considered and accepted as a text prohibiting even condemning LGBTIQ practices. However, the revisionists view that the acts condemned in Romans 1:26-27 do not refer to people with a homosexual orientation, but homosexuals committed by heterosexual people. This study aims to review the Bible's teaching on LGBTIQ to evaluate the revisionist interpretation of Romans 1:26-27. The approach in this research is qualitative research using hermeneutic methods and literature review. In the view of the revisionists, Romans 1: 26-27 discusses criticism of idol worship, criticism of heterosexuals, not homosexuals, discusses relationships that are unequal and driven by excessive lust. But looking back at Romans 1:26-27, LGBTIQ is a sin that violates God's law and not just as a punishment for idol worship. Paulus views LGBTIQ as a sin and deserves to receive the appropriate punishment for his mistakes. So, based on these findings, the revisionists were more influenced by presuppositions in reinterpreting Romans 1:26-27.

Abstract

Chiffon circumcision is a tradition of the Atoni Meto tribe. The practice of Siphon circumcision is unique because after a man undergoes circumcision, he must have sexual relations with another woman who is not his wife or permanent partner, intending to eliminate heat, dirt, or disease. Sexual intercourse is carried out to "cool" the circumcision wound. This research aims to explore the philosophy of the Chiffon circumcision tradition and review it from the perspective of Christian ethics. This research uses qualitative methods, specifically through a literature study approach and direct interviews with several SIfon circumcision practitioners. The research results show that Chiffon circumcision is contrary to Christian ethics because it sexually exploits women and tarnishes the sanctity of marriage.

Abstract

This research examines the role of parents and the church in fostering children's motivation to participate in learning at Sunday School at the Sentani Klasis Indonesian Christian Church. The research method used is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The procedure for collecting data is through questionnaires, interviews, and observation techniques. Research participants were parents and Sunday School teachers, as well as 30 Sunday School children. The research results show that children are strongly motivated to participate in Sunday School learning but face several obstacles. The first obstacle is the lack of parental support in technical matters and in providing motivation. The second obstacle is the church's lack of optimal efforts to facilitate learning in Sunday School, from the curriculum not yet being implemented to the lack of available learning tools to the teacher's lack of skills in using creative learning methods. Apart from that, parents and teachers have not communicated intensively regarding Sunday School learning. Therefore, so that Sunday School learning at GKI Klasis Sentani can run well and motivate children to be more active in participating in Sunday School learning, parents and the church need to increase their respective roles well.

Abstract

Religious moderation relates to the middle way, harmony, and balance between religious extremes. The middle path of moderation is not mathematically middle, but harmony and balance are the best choices. In the Indonesian context, the struggle between religion and secularisation is a problem that needs to be answered. In the context of religious diversity, pluralism, and particularism are often in tension and blame each other. In the theology of religions, faith and rationalization often declare the other wrong. This article discusses moderation between these extremes with respect for their positions and deepening it as a contextual form of moderation in Indonesia. The research method used was qualitative, using library sources. This research aims to obtain a model of religious restraint in Indonesia by existing extremes. The research results show that moderation in Indonesia can be done by accommodating positive values from these extremes. These results can answer the struggle regarding moderation in relations between religions and the state and in relations between religions.

This research wants to answer why many overseas Christian students are not active in church youth fellowships where they are studying. The research was conducted on Christian students at one of the universities in Luwuk city, Banggai district, Central Sulawesi. The method used is quantitative with a survey approach. Data was collected by questionnaire and analyzed by descriptive statistics. Four indicators are used: cultural, communication, economic, and social relationships. The research results show that three of them are barriers that are cultural, economic, and social relationships. For this reason, churches in Luwuk need to develop a service system, especially in youth fellowships, making it easier for overseas Christian students to participate actively.

Abstract

Humour is commonly used in sermons. There are even preachers who are famous for always bringing fresh humour to their sermons. But is humour in line with the principles of homiletics? This research explores the idea of humorous preaching from a homiletic perspective. The method used is a literature study. As a result, the author found that humour positively impacts sermons because it can help the preacher creatively present teachings that attract attention and are easy for listeners to understand. However, on the other hand, excessive or misplaced use of humour can have negative impacts, including underestimating and weakening the spirit of the sermon, lack of assertiveness, being biased, changing form, and other adverse effects.

Abstract

Marital rape is a form of violence against women that hurts the victim. The church needs to be involved in dealing with this violence, and for this, there needs to be an exceptional theological basis regarding marital rape. This research aims to describe Christian theology regarding marital rape, especially in the context of Christian marriage. The research method used is a literature study. The research results show that marital rape is very contrary to the Christian concept of marriage, which is based on love. In love, there is no justification for violence in any form. It even teaches explicitly the husband's obligation to love his wife as Christ loves His church (Ephesians 5:25-28). Likewise, in 1 Corinthians 7:3-5, the Bible teaches that husbands and wives should fulfill each other's sexual needs, but only with mutual consent and consideration of each other's feelings.

Abstract

Until now, the Church still prohibits divorce among its congregation. However, the fact is that the divorce rate continues to rise. One of the causes of divorce in Indonesia is domestic violence (KDRT), where the victims are mostly women. This research aims to determine the perceptions of Christian women in one of the local churches in Central Sulawesi regarding divorce due to domestic violence. The research method used is quantitative with a survey approach. Data was taken using a questionnaire, measured using a Likert scale with the options of Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree and Strongly Disagree. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis using the SPSS application. Of the 30 respondents who participated, the results found that respondents gave an average response of Agree to the statements: 1) there is no point in maintaining a marriage full of violence; 2) divorce is one way to end domestic violence; 3) divorce is the victim's courage to end domestic violence behavior; 4) the church's prohibition on divorce is one of the obstacles for victims to escape the shackles of domestic violence. From these results, it can be concluded that if, in dealing with the problem of domestic violence, the church only insists on prohibiting its citizens from divorcing without providing concrete solutions for victims of domestic violence, then the divorce ban will not be effective in reducing the rate of increase in the divorce rate among Christians.
