Abstract

Machine learning (ML), an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, has the potential to revolutionize medical education by aiding in locating scholarly publications, condensing them, producing automatic drafts, summarising articles, and translating information from various languages. Still ethical concerns need to be governed and closely supervised in scientific literature. ML has become a valuable tool for medical research and teaching due to its ability to generate responses that closely resemble human responses when faced with difficult medical questions. It has disadvantages such as the potential dissemination of inaccurate or prejudiced data and excessive dependence on technology in medical instruction, deteriorating analytical reasoning and clinical judgment abilities. ML can aid in various aspects of medical education, including curriculum building, tutoring, test preparation, medical research, simulation, and continuing medical education. This article explores the transformative impact of ML in the medical field, focusing on medical data analysis, rewards in medical education, enhanced diagnosis, and creative content generation. It delves into ML applications for medical learners and educators, including interactive simulations, cooperation enhancement, and clinical vignettes. The article also addresses ML's role in patient care, along with strategies, challenges, and limitations in its implementation.

Abstract

Our current dynamic digital era has generated active procrastination which is a popular trend of behaviour among young adults. Deciphering this reckless habit reveals a fascinating truth in which active procrastination thrives on strategic planning for task completion. This study examined i) self-regulation and resilience as the significant predictors of active procrastination among young adults, ii) the significant difference in active procrastination among university students and working young adults, iii) significant gender differences among university students, and iv) among working young adults. A total of 192 respondents completed the questionnaires, Self-Regulation Scale, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and Active Procrastination Scale. Through quantile regression, results show that self-regulation is a significant predictor of active procrastination among young adults. Independent t-tests shows there is no significant differences in active procrastination among university students and working young adults. However, there are significant gender differences in active procrastination among university students, but not among working young adults. These findings indicate that self-regulation plays a significant role in cultivating active procrastinating among young adults. Furthermore, interesting findings are discovered for gender differences as males have relatively higher active procrastination scores. Hence, the findings emphasize the need for workshops to transform young adults to become active procrastinators through enhancing self-regulation.

Abstract

The demanding hospital work environment has increased the need for organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB). It’s essential to maintain the altruistic behaviour of nursing professionals towards each other to enhance the patient experience and provide quality healthcare service to patients efficiently. This quantitative study explored the relationships between OCB constructs based on social identity theory (SIT) and system justification theory (SJT). This study is empirical and cross-sectional in nature; structural equation modeling is performed on two hundred twenty-two nursing professional responses, using IBM AMOS V.22 to test the hypothesized model. Conscientiousness has a mediating effect on the relationship between civic virtue and altruism (Indirect effect=0.19, Boot SE=.057, lower-level confidence interval (LLCI)=.0940, upper-level confidence interval (ULCI)=.3144). Moreover, sportsmanship had a mediating effect on the relationship between civic virtue and altruism with an Indirect effect=-0.06, Boot SE=.023, LLCI=-0.1159, ULCI=-0.0222). The results supported the hypothesis that civic virtue and altruism are directly related and found that conscientiousness and sportsmanship mediate the relationship between civic virtue and altruism. The findings suggest that employees with higher sportsmanship tend to reduce their altruistic behavior in the long run.

Abstract

Surakarta is facing serious problems related to waste management at the Putri Cempo landfill. PT. Solo Citra Metro Plasma Power with the Surakarta city government built a waste power plant installation with gasification technology. Tar waste is a gasification liquid product that is dangerous if not managed. This study aimed to determine the heavy metal content and toxicity level of gasified tar waste using the atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and lethal dose-50 (LD50) acute toxicity test. The parameters of heavy metals tested are lead (Pb), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and total chromium (Cr). In the LD50 test, the animals were divided into 5 groups, namely 1 control group and 4 groups with doses of 0.50 mL, 1 mL, 2 mL, and 4 mL. The results showed that the tar contained 17.4 mg/L of iron, 3.5 mg/L of zinc, and <0.01 mg/L of lead, copper, and chromium. Acute toxicity tests did not cause death in the animals but still showed toxic symptoms, so the LD50 value is declared pseudo. The content of some heavy metals in tar is within safe limits and the level of toxicity is relatively harmless.

Abstract

Tuberculosis treatment is carried out daily for a long time, causing boredom with taking medication and reducing medication adherence. It results in drug resistance and more prolonged treatment. In response to the situation, this study developed an android-based application called the education, calendar, and medication alarm (EKA) app to improve medication adherence and self-efficacy of tuberculosis patients. Research and development with four steps: evaluation of health education, medication adherence, and self-efficacy; application development; feasibility test; and application socialization. The sample in this study was 38 respondents. This study also uses morisky medication adherence scale (MMAS-8), self-efficacy, and system usability scale (SUS) questionnaires and evaluation sheets to collect the data. Data analysis was done descriptively. The outcomes of the application feasibility test showed that the EKA application received an acceptable value of 81.5 based on acceptance, B value (81.5) based on value scale, an excellent value (81.5) based on adjective rating, and good score (81.5) based on percentile. Socialization on the use of the application goes well, and the patient gets a good understanding and can use the EKA application easily. It proves that the android-based EKA application tested using the SUS questionnaire can be used as a medium for health education and supports medication adherence and self-efficacy.

Abstract

Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a pathological disorder affecting the ear, characterized by a persistent and long-lasting middle ear infection accompanied by the absence of an intact tympanic membrane. Multiple measures can be employed to evaluate the quality of life among patients with CSOM. One such instrument is the chronic otitis media questionnaire-12 (COMQ-12), which has demonstrated satisfactory levels of validity and reliability. The utilization of the COMQ-12 questionnaire has the potential to improve the quality of life experienced by CSOM patients. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Indonesian adaptation instrument of the COMQ-12 in patients with CSOM in the Otorhinolaryngology department of multiple hospitals in Yogyakarta. The study was conducted from February to July 2023. The study comprised 48 participants, consisting of 16 males and 32 females. The adapted Indonesian version of the COMQ-12 instrument demonstrates validity and reliability in assessing patients' quality of life with CSOM, as evidenced by a statistically significant r-value of 0.2353. The internal consistency analysis reveals that Cronbach's α coefficient is 0.868. The Indonesian adaptation of the COMQ-12 demonstrates validity and reliability as an assessment tool for measuring the health-related quality of life in patients diagnosed with CSOM.

Abstract

Soft skills play a vital role for providing excellent customer service in the healthcare setting. This study aims to develop and assess the instrument validity and reliability before measuring the levels of soft skills competency and core value internalization on staffs at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre @International Islamic University Malaysia (SASMEC@IIUM). A self-assessment questionnaire was developed through three phases. The first phase involved reviewing and identifying relevant literatures and existing soft skills assessment instruments through bibliographic searches and expert consultations. A conceptual model was then established based on the selected conceptual frameworks after determining all relevant soft skill domains. The second phase involved generating relevant items, removing duplicate or irrelevant items, and appraising the content validity by three experts. The third phase was data collection, wherein the finalized instrument was distributed to 32 staff of SASMEC@IIUM via google forms. The instrument reliability was investigated through internal consistency reliability or Cronbach’s alpha, with all items, except for the construct ‘gratitude’, achieving acceptable values by exceeding the threshold value of 0.7. Subsequently, two gratitude items were removed from the questionnaire. The current instrument and theoretical framework employed in the self-assessment questionnaire development are valid and reliable for the actual application.
