Abstract

This study aimed to look at the relationship between religiosity and subjective well-being (consisting of life satisfaction, positive emotions and negative emotions) in the elderly in Jakarta (N = 73). The measurement of religiosity in this study use an adaptation of the Religiosity Scale (Diduca & Joseph, 2007), while to measure life satisfaction, and the level of positive and negative emotions using The Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985) and Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale (Watson, Clark, & Tellegan, 1988). The results showed there was a relationship between life satisfaction and positive emotions with religiosity (r = 0.423, p <0.05, r = 0.234, p <0.05), but religiosity did not have a significant relationship with negative emotions (r = 0.048, p> 0.05). The results also found that as age increases, the relationship between religiosity and subjective well-being strengthens.

Abstract

Marital satisfaction is a critical variable in marriage study at large. However, there is not a single study investigating the influence of social desirability bias toward participants’ responses filling in the marital satisfaction scale in the Indonesian context. This study aims to determine which marital satisfaction scale free from bias. Participants of this study were 250 married couples who filled in three different marital satisfaction scales (Satisfaction with Married Life, Relationship Assessment Scale, and Perceived Relationship Quality Component). Regression analysis examined the contribution of social desirability bias toward marital satisfaction. Results showed that Satisfaction with Married Life scale is free from social desirability bias. Meanwhile, Relationship Assessment Scale and Perceived Relationship Quality Component were influenced by the social desirability. This study hopes to contribute to the Indonesian marriage study by utilizing a social desirable bias-free scale or by statistically controlling the bias.

Abstract

Photo-based social media like Instagram is popular in young people. But despite its fame, Instagram proved to be a social media that has the worst impact on adolescent’s mental health. One of the negative impact that may result from using social media is a decrease in self-esteem, which is an individual’s evaluation or judgement about himself. In addition, self-esteem has also proven to be a predictor of excessive use of Instagram in adolescents. This study aims to examine the relationship between the intensity of Instagram usage and self-esteem on adolescents. This study was conducted with quantitative methods, correlational analysis. The number of participants is 410 teenagers aged 12 to 21 years (M = 15.38, SD = 1.71), obtained using convenience sampling techniques. The result showed negative correlation between Instagram use and self-esteem. This indicates that the higher the intensity of using Instagram, the lower the self-esteem. Moreover, further analysis indicates different gender and activities in Instagram may have different relation to self-esteem. Implications of this study in adolescent use of Instagram were discussed.

Abstract

Abstract

Adolescents are one group that is prone to experience anxiety and depression. Adverse childhood experiences had the potential to cause anxiety and depression. A quantitative approach using a correlational design was used to explore the association between adverse childhood experiences, anxiety, and depression. There were 62 college students willing to be involved and fill out The Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7), The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), dan Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire. Majority of the participants (87,1%) reported experiencing at least one ACE, with the most experienced adversities by the participants were emotional abuse, emotional neglect, and physical abuse. As much as27,4% of the participantsreported experiencing four or more ACEs categories. The experience of emotional abuse was positively and significantly correlated with anxiety and depression. Furthermore, sexual abuse was associated with depression while separation of parents or divorce was related to anxiety. The findings of this study strengthen the link between adverse childhood experiences with mental health in adulthood. Early detection of these adversities might be useful to identify students who are at risk of deterioration in their mental health.

Abstract

Marital satisfaction is one of the important things in supporting the happiness of a partner. The emergence of conflict in marriage is normal for couples, but can be more complicated for couples who undergo long distance marriage (LDM) because they are unable to actualize the needs, hopes, and desires that affect satisfaction in marriage. Marital commitments and marital adjustments can increase marital satisfaction. This study aims to determine the correlation between marital commitment and marital adjustment with marital satisfaction on wives who undergo long distance marriage at Halim Perdanakusuma. This study uses a non random purposive sampling involving 72 wives of the Air Force soldiers in Battalion Paskhas 467 Halim Perdanakusuma as a sample and uses a marital satisfaction scale, a marital commitment scale, and a marital adjustment scale as an instrument . The results of multiple regression analysis showed a strong positive significant correlation between marital commitment and marital adjustment with marital satisfaction for wives undergoing LDM. Significantly positive correlation between marital commitment and marital satisfaction on wives undergoing LDM.. Significantly positive correlation between marital adjustment and marital satisfaction among wives undergoing LDM. The conclusion of this study is the higher marital commitment and marital adjustment to wives undergoing long distance marriage, the higher marital satisfaction is felt.

Abstract

Heavy workload could make teachers have negative perceptions about teacher well-being. Therefore teachers need resilience to withstand the heavy workloads to maintain their well-being. Based on the background, the purpose of this study is to find a relationship between resilience and teacher well-being. It is assumed that resilience can be a predictor of teacher well-being. Participants are 263 teachers who actively teach at various levels of school with teaching duration ranging from 6 months to above 30 years. Data analysis performed using Pearson correlation analysis to see the relationship between variables and simple linear regression to see the role of resilience to teacher well-being. The results showed that resilience has a significant relationship with teacher well-being (value r = .333, p <.01). It means that if the resilience value increases, the value of teacher well-being increases. The results of linear regression analysis showed that resilience explained 11.1% of the teacher well-being variance. This study provides awareness that resilience to teachers can be one of the important things to consider to improve teacher well-being. Based on the results obtained, researchers hope the world of education can provide interventions related to resilience to improve teacher well-being.
