Abstract

Academic dishonesty is one phenomenon that has long happened in the world of education and is still interesting to study. It is known that academic dishonesty has increased dramatically each year in the past few decades. This study hypothesized that parental pressure and perfectionism are related to academic dishonesty. Data collection was carried out for 600 students in Jakarta between the ages of 14-18 years; using a questionnaire containing the Children-Adolescence Perfectionism Scale (CAPS), Perceived Parental Pressure Inventory (PPPI), and Academic Dishonesty Scale; all of these three were translated by researchers into Bahasa Indonesia before being used in research. Correlation test results showed that: (1) parental pressure is positively and significantly related to academic dishonesty, (2) perfectionism is positively and significantly related to academic dishonesty, and (3) parental pressure is positively and significantly related to perfectionism. This study suggested that parents should pay more attention to the child's condition and do not impose too high academic achievement standards so that children do not develop perfectionism and commit academic dishonesty to meet these standards.

Abstract

Romantic relationship is one of the most important assets for individual’s self esteem, health and happiness or their subjective well-being (Reis, Collins, & Berscheid, 2000). By that fact, the broke-up of the romantic relationship can decrease the level of happiness and subjective well-being of individuals whether the subjective well-being itself is relatively stable for the entire life (Park & Sanchez, 2007). Sometimes an individual responded their broke-up by doing some maladaptive acts such as an endless emotional distress and obsessive act just to get back their ex-partner. The purpose of this research is to give Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) in order to enhance people’s happiness. The research design is using one group pretest-postest design. As a partisipant, young adult should be in 20 until 40 years of age. This intervention contains 5 (five) session which held once in a week and the duration is ± 90 minutes per session. Based on the quantitative evaluation with Oxford Happiness Questionnaire and Core Bereavement Item, and also the qualitative evaluation from observation and interview, the main result pointed that Acceptance Commitment Therapy is effectively proven to increase subjective well-being in Young Adults’ post relationship dissolution.

Abstract

Undergraduate students with high levels of self-esteem tend to have good adjustments in lectures. They will have the ability to deal with college problems and automatically reduce their psychological distress. This study used a quasi experimental method which is conducted to determine the increase of self-esteem in students who experience psychological distress. Participants of this study were 8 undergraduate students from Universitas Indonesia aged 18-23 years with a level of self-esteem below the value of 29 as measured by Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES), and had a level of psychological distress above the value of 1.75 as measured by HSCL-25. Participants were involved in the intervention of increasing self-esteem consisting of 5 main sessions for two consecutive days (about 6 hours a day). Four weeks after the second day of training, the participant's level of self-esteem and psychological distress were measured. The result of pre and posttest intervention showed that the participant’s mean score of self-esteem increased and the mean score of psychological distress decreased. The result of Wilcoxon test also showed a significant change in both variables (Z RSES = -2.246; Z HSCL-25 = -2.366; p < .05). This study shows that training intervention is effective in increasing the level of self-esteem and reducing the level of psychological distress for undergraduate students at Universitas Indonesia. Participants also commented that they gained new knowledge about self-esteem and new skills to communicate assertively and think positively.

Abstract

Sexting behavior is an activity that is commonly practiced nowadays by teenagers. In this study, sexting behavior is defined as the activity of receiving, sending, receiving and sending sexual content like photos, text messages, or video via mobile phone. This study aims to determine the effect of sensation seeking and self-esteem on sexting behavior in adolescent in Jakarta. The study involved 370 male and female respondents with any backgrounds. The analysis technique used in this research is multiple regression, independent sample t-test and also ANOVA. Some of the results of this study indicates that: (1) there is influences of sensation seeking and self-esteem against sexting behavior, (2) there is influence of sensation seeking against sexting behavior, (3) there is no influence of self-esteem against sexting behavior, and (4) there is difference of sexting behavior in terms of age, education, and sexual orientation. From the results of the study also known that sexting behavior occurs in teenagers, regardless of sexual orientation, educational background, and status of respondents. While it is also known that the most widely referred figure as the purpose of sexting behavior is peers. The most frequent motivation for doing sexting behavior is an attempt to share and try to tease a friend or spouse.

Abstract

In the work environment, generation Y shows proficiency in the use of technology, including social media. The Y generation spent more hours per day accessing social media compared to previous generation. Frequent use of social media can result in the loss of interaction ability directly. Present phenomenon shows that generation Y has difficulty communicating and inappropriate approach in communication. This study aims to determine the relationship between the frequency of using social media and interpersonal communication in Y generation’s employees. Sample in this study were 131 employees with aged 22-38 years who works in DKI Jakarta and have more than one social media. The instruments that were used are The Media and Technology Usage and Attitude Scale (Rosen, 2013) and Interpersonal Communication Inventory (Graham, 1998) which have been adapted. The result of this study indicated that there was negative significant relationship between frequency of social media usage and dimension awareness of others from interpersonal communication. However, in other dimension indicated that there was no correlation between frequency of social media usage and both of dimension, which are awareness of self & self disclosure and coping with feelings & differences.

Abstract

Cognitive emotion regulation adalah konsep regulasi emosi yang berfokus pada proses evaluasidan modifikasi emosi dengan menggunakan strategi kognitif. Strategi yang digunakan individu dalam mengelola emosi memiliki hubungan dengan kecenderungannya mengalami kecemasan dan depresi. Penelitian sebelumnya berhasil mengembangkan alat ukur cognitive emotion regulation dalam beberapa versi, tetapi belum ada penelitian yang membuat alat ukur tersebut versi Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan melakukan adaptasi alat ukur cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire dengan menggunakan mahasiswa sebagai partisipan. Alat ukur ini terdiri dari 36 item yang terbagi ke dalam 8 dimensi, yaitu self blame, other blame, acceptance, rumination, positive refocusing, refocus on planning, positive reappraisal, putting into persepctive, dan catastrophizing. Ada sebanyak 196 mahasiswa (Laki-laki= 18% dan Perempuan=82%) terlibat dalam penelitian ini. Teknik pengujian validitas dan reliabilitas menggunakan Rasch Model pada aplikasi winsteps. Hasilnya adalah seluruh item dinyatakan valid dengan rentang reliabilitas alpha cronbach 0,6 hingga 0,85. Oleh karena itu, alat ukur cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire versi Indonesia dinyatakan mampu mengukur regulasi emosi kognitif secara valid.

Abstract

Some previous studies showed that students with special education needs (SEN) in inclusive elementary schools experience many problems, including academic problems. One individual factor that can affect the academic achievement of students with SEN is social skills. This study aimed to understand the correlation between social skills and academic achievement of students with SEN in inclusive elementary schools. We also examined demographic variables of children (children’s gender, type of disability, and level of impairment) that can affect children’s social skills. Participants in this study were 210 classroom teachers who teach 365 students with SEN inclusive elementary schools in Jakarta. Participants were obtained by convenience sampling technique, with sample from 17 public and five private inclusive elementary schools in Jakarta. This study was conducted using a quantitative method and correlational non-experimental design, and used pearson correlation, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA as statistical test. Our results showed that social skills have a significant correlation to academic achievement of children with SEN. The only demographc variables that affected parental involvement was the level of impairment experienced by children. The results suggest that social skills are an important aspect to be developed in students with SEN.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat perbedaan kepuasan hidup pada pekerja komuter dan yang bukan pekerja komuter. Partisipan penelitian ini secara keseluruhan terdiri atas 94 pekerja yang bertempat tinggal di wilayah Bogor. Pengukuran kepuasan hidup dengan menggunakan The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985). Hasil ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak ada beda kepuasan hidup antara pekerja komuter dengan pekerja bukan komuter.

Abstract

Musik K-Pop semakin mendunia dan diminati, termasuk di Indonesia. Budaya pengidolaan terhadap idol K-Pop tidak hanya dilakukan oleh remaja, melainkan masih dilakukan oleh kaum dewasa muda. Penggemar memusatkan kegiatan pengidolaan pada bias, yaitu idol K-Pop yang paling digemari. Seiring perkembangan teknologi, penggemar melakukan kegiatan pengidolaan melalui media sosial. Kegiatan penggemar di media sosial menunjukkan bentuk celebrity worship, yaitu obsesi terhadap satu atau lebih sosok selebriti. Celebrity worship ditemukan berkaitan dengan tipe kepribadian tertentu. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui lebih jauh mengenai hubungan antara big five personality trait dengan celebrity worship pada dewasa muda penggemar K-Pop di media sosial. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 328 individu dewasa muda berusia 18-40 tahun di JABODETABEK. Celebrity worship diukur menggunakan Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) dan big five personality trait diukur menggunakan IPIP-NEO. Hasil uji dengan teknik pearson correlation menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara neuroticism dan agreeableness dengan celebrity worship. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat meneliti lebih dalam mengenai tipe-tipe personality yang sudah terbukti berkaitan dengan celebrity worship, misalnya neuroticism.

Abstract

The current research investigated the relationship between parenting style and emotional regulation among children in Indonesian population. A total of 126 parents of children aged between 3 and 6 years old participated in this study. The Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire Short Version (Robinson, Mandleco, Olsen, & Hart, 2001) was used to measure parents’ parenting style, and the Emotion Regulation Checklist (Shields & Cicchetti, 1997) was used to measure parents’ perceptions of children’s emotional regulation. The results revealed that there was a positive significant relationship between authoritative parenting style and the development of children’s emotional regulation, and there were negative significant relationships between authoritarian and permissive parenting styles and children’s emotional regulation in this population. This suggests that authoritative style of parenting provides the best support for the development of emotional regulation among children in an Indonesian population.
