Abstract

AbstractManuscript type: Research paper.Research aim: The aim of this research research was to examine whether leadership style mediated the relationship between psychological capital and readiness for change in the process of organizational transformation of state-owned and private companies in Jabodetabek, Indonesia.Design/ Methodology/ Approach: A survey was conducted on 149 employees from 256 of private companies and state own company’s. There were three instruments used: the scale of readiness for change from Hanpachern et.al (1997) and Armenakis et.al (1999; 2013), the scale of psychological capital from modified by Dewayani (2014), and the scale of leadership (transformational and transactional) from Bass and Riggio (2006).  All three of these measurement scales have strong reliability scores between .82 to .91. The data was analysed by SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) and the STATCAL statistical program. Research findings: The results revealed that the perception of employee self-leadership fully mediated the relationship between psychological capital and readiness for change.Theoretical contribution/ Originality: It is suggested that in a process of transformation, the role of both the transactional and transformational leadership styles is important, but transformational leadership has more significant influence in the process of organizational transformation. although in theory and previous studies have stated that transformational leadership is more significant than transactional leadership in the process of organizational transformation, in this study shows the level of position in the organizational hierarchy also influences. In this study shows that at the staff level especially sacrificed proves that the transactional leadership style is more influential than the transformational leadership style. Thus, in the process of organizational transformation both leadership styles need to be applied depending on the group of employees that will be influenced. The lower the position, the more the need to apply transactional leadership style, the higher the position the possibility of the need for transformational leadership style.Practitioner/ Policy implication: From the description above, readiness for change can be interpreted as psychological and physical readiness, to understand the need for changes needed by the organization, individual beliefs to be able to implement planned or proposed changes and to believe that these changes can have a positive impact, both for themselves and organization.Research limitation: The sample size is too small to generalise the findings to the larger population. In addition to samples that are too small to be generalized to a larger population, this study also only involves samples in Jabodetabek so that it is less representative of the population in Indonesia, other than that it is only taken from the staff level so that the managerial level is not examined in this study. Keywords: Leadership, Psychological Capital, Readiness for Change, Indonesian Companies.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of callings meaning of work on environmental mastery (one of the dimensions of psychological well-being) mediated by organizational engagement on the case of women workers in the garment industry at the Nusantara Industrial Bonded Zone (KBN). There were 111 participants, woman workers with a minimum of one year lenght of service. Data was collected through the environmental mastery adaptation scale instrument from Ryff (1989) (RPWBS) to measure Environmental Mastery, Amy Wrzesniewski's (1997) Work-Life Questionnaire and the scale of Organization Engagement from Saks (2006). Hypotheses are tested by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), analyzed by Lisrel 8.7 software. The results showed that the model was declared fit, Organization engagement became the "full mediator" relationship between Callings (meaning of work) and Environmental Mastery (psychological well-being) wuth Chi-square 20.81; df = 24; p.value = 0.65003; RMSEA = 0,000. The managerial implication of this finding is that as long as the garment industry still relies on the role of women workers, management needs to improve a safe and comfortable work environment, and place leaders or supervisors who better understand and respect woman workers in their role in supporting organizational performance. Organizational commitment diukur menggunakan Organizational Commitment Questionnaire dibuat oleh Richard T. Mowday, Richard M. Steers, dan Lyman W. Porter (1979). Social skills menggunakan Social Skills Inventory (SSI) dibuat oleh Ronald. E. Riggio (1989). Life satisfaction menggunakan Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) oleh Ed Diener, Robert A. Emmons, Randy J. Larsen dan Sharon Griffin (1985).

Abstract

This research attempts to build a structural model based on an integrative approach to explain labor intention to participate in collective action. This research is relevant as most of the existing theories and approaches explain the collective action phenomena partially. The main objective of this research is to analyze the integrative approach of psychological social psychology (individual factors), sociological social psychology (inter-group relation factors) and social constructionism (societal factor) in explaining labor intention to participate in collective action, such as demonstrations and labor strikes. This integrative approach research tested a theoretically derived pattern of specific relationship between individual level of analysis, inter-group relation and societal or ideological level of analysis where each level of analysis was represented by one or more theories. The research model proposes three exogenous latent variables namely: social representation, organizational commitment and union commitment, and four endogenous latent variables that are: social identity, relative deprivation, expectancy-value motives and intention to participate in collective action. These research findings proved that an integrative approach model which was represented by expectancy-value motives (individual level), both relative deprivation and social identity (inter-group level) and social representation (societal level) explain the labor intention participating in collective action was significant in non participant sample. On the other hand, in participant sample there were only two factors namely inter-group relation and societal context which explain the emerging of the labor intention participating in collective action.

Abstract

Very rapid development in information technology, one of which lies in social networking media. The use of social media continued to increase from 2013 (42%) to 2015 (47%). The extensive use of social media causes adverse effects such as deceptive behavior (in social media), constant urge to go online, problematic social media use, and checking social media (fear of missing out). This study examines how Big-Five personality affects deceptive behavior, FoMO, and problematic social media use. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling, which 121 students in DKI Jakarta selected. Multiple linear regression and multivariate multiple regression were used to examine the data. As a result, there is a strong correlation between the Big-Five personality in predicting FoMO, deceptive behavior, and problematic social media use. This finding has implications for universities, especially for lecturers with a background in psychology, to direct and provide knowledge to students to avoid deceptive behavior, problematic social media use, and fear of missing out.
