Abstract

The degeneration of functional organ is the common elderly problem. It includes cognitive and physical impairment. Besides the natural process as one of the causes, the researcher finds that this degeneration can be accelerated by the behavior of the older people in avoiding the daily activities, many of them do not feel confident to do such activities. The degeneration of functional organ is a natural process, but it can be perverted. One of the efforts to regenerate physical and cognitive function can be implemented through therapy, both physical therapy and virtual reality therapy. The both therapy closely relates to one of the sources self-efficacies; physiological state, it plays the role in health function and physical activities that requires both strength and stamina. In judging the physical ability, one can be affected by the information about his/her physical condition to face certain situation by examining his/her physiology. The older alzheimer patients are divided into three categories; those who receive physical therapy, those who receive virtual reality therapy and the rest who do not receive therapy. This research is conducted in one of the elderly home cares, which there are some older alzheimer patients who have received two programs of these therapies. The researcher is using qualitative study case method through observation and interview. The research shows that the subjects in the research have vary comprehension in seeing the abstract dimensions and self-efficacy sources.

Abstract

Ever since introduced by Davison (1983), third-person perception (TPP) - the tendency of individuals to assume that mass media have greater influence on others than oneself - have been researched in various contexts and situations. Recent research claims that optimistic bias could explain the occurrence of TPP in individuals. The main focus of this research is to examine TPP in the context of pornography. In line with previous findings, result shows that the majority of adults assume that others are more influenced by the negative effects of pornography within mass media. The power of perceptual bias also has a positive correlation with individual support of pornography censorship. However, that result is only observable if it's tested in individuals that are affected by TPP (assumed that others are more influenced by negative mass media effects than oneself). This study did not find significant correlation between optimistic bias and TPP.

Subjects in this study were the pairs of father, mother, and their children aged 18-25 years that selected by purposive sampling method (N=100). Data were taken using a questionnaire. The data will be analyzed by the cluster method, frequency distributions, and cross-tabulations. The results showed 3 groups on the subjects father, mother, and child. In the entire group formed, there are criteria that are considered very important by each group. Groups of parents are very concerned with the financial criteria and professional contribution to the work, while the groups of child consider that the values and personal expectations are the very important criteria in choosing a career. Abstract

Pre-marital sex phenomenon in the recent society does not only occur among adults, but it also occurs among high school and junior school students. The tendency of teenagers for being engaged in pre-marital sex is getting high when they have positive attitude toward sexual behavior. The effort to vent sexual desire among teenagers is basically affected by external factors, which is peer conformity. Conformity to peers could effectively predict teenagers' difficulties in pro-social problem and dangerous behavior such as pre-marital sex. In addition to the external factors, the internal factor could be seen from emotional intelligence, in which the teenagers are required to properly control their emotion in dealing with sexual desire. This research is aimed to examine the effect of peer conformity and emotional intelligence on pre-marital sexual behavior among teenagers. The sample in this research consists of 114 early teenagers, who aged between 11-14 years old. The researcher used Multi-linear Regression as a technique of data analysis. The result of this research shows that peer conformity and emotional intelligence could significantly affect pre-marital sexual behavior among teenagers.

Abstract

Decreasing voter turnout urge non-partisan institutions or candidates to increase voter participation in election. One of the methods is get-out-the-vote by giving mail to the voters. Gerber, Green, and Larimer (2008) show that social pressure in the form of Hawthorne effects increases voter turnout. When voters are observed, they are exerted to comply with social norms to get praise or to avoid chastisement. Moreover, emotions, such as pride and shame, also play role in the effect of social pressure on voting behavior. Panagopoulos (2010) shows that shame and pride increase voter turnout, and shame is more effective to increase voter turnout than pride. Using field experiment, researcher randomized 135 participants into three treatment groups: "Hawthorne" mailing, "Hawthorne with pride" mailing, and "Hawthorne with shame" mailing. The result was that social pressure in the form of Hawthorne effect decrease voting behavior. There was no difference among the treatment groups. Besides the inadequacy of the experiment, researchers also presume lack of voters' civil attitude as the cause of decreasing on voter turnout.

Abstract

Based on research of Beard (2008) and Ali (2013), optimism is related with flow. Academic flow can be explained by framework of Temporal Motivation Theory (TMT) which consists of expectancy, low value, and impulsiveness (Yuwanto, 2013). Based on literature studies, there is lack of research about relation between optimism and flow based on TMT framework. In this study, researcher tested TMT as a moderate variable of relationship between optimism and academic flow. Respondents in this research are 146 students class of 2013, Faculty of Psychology Universitas Surabaya. This research use Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R) for measuring optimism, The Flow Inventory for Students (LIS) for measuring academic flow and Steel Procrastination Scale (SPS) for measuring TMT. The result reveals that optimism has positive relation with academic flow (r=0.187, p=0.012). Measurement of TMT as moderate variable is done by partial correlation, by controlling expectancy, low value and impulsiveness. The result show no correlation (r= -0.096, p=0.127). This study concludes that expectancy, low value, and impulsiveness are variable which can explain more about relationship between optimism and academic flow. Optimism is not enough to reach academic flow, high expectancy, low value and low impulsiveness are needed to reach high academic flow.
