Abstract

The meaning of life is important and valuable for everyone, including the elderly. The elderly regarded as a period of decline began to occur where the signs of aging , such as wrinkles, graying hair, illness, and so on. In addition to physical changes, the elderly also experience psychological changes, such as less emotionally stable, depression, loneliness, and so on. These things can affect the elderly in meaning life. This study aims to determine how the image of the meaning of life in the elderly living in nursing homes. This study used a qualitative approach with two elderly subjects living in nursing homes X , Jakarta. Data was collected through interviews and observation techniques and the results were analyzed using content analysis. The results of this study are aspects forming of the meaning of life in the elderly are subjective, some interpret his life by linking the religious aspect, but there is also that to make sense of his life by linking the family aspect . Keywords: elderly, meaning of life, the meaning of life aspects

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research was conducted to test college students’ academic buoyancy, especially working college students and not working college students in Jakarta. Academic bouyancy is the ability of students (in this research is college students) to successfully overcome obstacles and problems that occur in everyday academic life, such as facing tasks and examinations from various subjects intended to measure their abilities (Martin & Marsh in Tarbetsky, Martin & Collie, 2017). Using independent sample of comparative study with quantitative method to understand the differences of academic buoyancy in working college students and not working college students in Jakarta. Data is gathered by using academic buoyancy questionnaire made by researcher based on Martin & Marsh (2010) aspect of academic buoyancy. Academic buoyancy questionnaire validity score range from 0.291 to 0.676 and the reliability score is 0.920. Questionnaire is given to 388 college students in Jakarta. Result shows that there are differences between working college students’ and not working college students’ academic buoyancy in Jakarta. The differences of academic buoyancy is explained by the differences on its aspect, self-efficacy, planning, persistence, and anxiety. Working college students’ and not working college students’ academic buoyancy are both high in categorization, but working college students’ mean are higher than not working college students’ mean. For college students who work can reduce anxiety by setting aside a few minutes every day to calm down and make a priority scale to solve important and urgent things first. For college students who are not working, they are expected to make a learning plan in detail and make a target value that is in accordance with their own abilities.Keywords: academic buoyancy, college student, working, not workingABSTRAK: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menguji academic bouyancy pada mahasiswa khususnya mahasiswa yang bekerja dan tidak bekerja di Jakarta. Academic bouyancy adalah kemampuan siswa (dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa) untuk berhasil mengatasi hambatan dan masalah yang terjadi dalam kehidupan akademik sehari-hari, seperti menghadapi tugas-tugas dan ujian dari berbagai mata pelajaran yang dimaksudkan untuk mengukur kemampuan yang dimiliki (Martin & Marsh dalam Tarbetsky, Martin & Collie, 2017). Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian komparatif sampel independen dengan metode kuantitatif untuk mengetahui perbedaan academic buoyancy yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa bekerja dan tidak bekerja di Jakarta. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner academic buoyancy yang disusun oleh peneliti berdasarkan aspek yang dikemukakan oleh Martin & Marsh (2010). Dari hasil uji coba terhadap kuesioner yang disusun peneliti didapatkan rentang validitas sebesar 0.291-0.676 dan nilai reliabilitas sebesar 0.920. Kuesioner penelitian dibagikan kepada 388 mahasiswa di Jakarta secara secara langsung dan daring. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan academic buoyancy pada mahasiswa bekerja dan tidak bekerja di Jakarta. Perbedaan juga terlihat pada aspek self-efficacy, planning, persistence, dan anxiety. Academic buoyancy pada mahasiswa bekerja dan tidak bekerja berada pada kategori yang tinggi dengan nilai rata-rata mahasiswa bekerja lebih tinggi daripada nilai rata-rata mahasiswa tidak bekerja. Untuk mahasiswa yang bekerja dapat mengurangi kecemasan yang dirasakan dengan menyisihkan beberapa menit setiap hari untuk menenangkan diri dan membuat skala prioritas untuk menyelesaikan hal yang penting dan mendesak terleboh dahulu. Bagi mahasiswa yang tidak bekerja, diharapkan untuk membuat rencana belajar dengan detil dan membuat target nilai yang sesuai dengan kemampuan diri sendiri.Kata kunci: academic buoyancy, mahasiswa, bekerja, tidak bekerja

Abstract

The success or failure of any organizations including education institution depends on the leader behavior. A school principal needs to play their role as a leader and manager in order to create conducive learning environment. The task of school principal consist of planning programs and academic activities; in the process, some factors that become barriers include: 1) planning such as teachers, financial, time, administration works, and external influence; 2) monitoring and evaluation of all activities, the implementation of learning process, financial, students’ mentoring, and teachers’ assistance; 3) follow up of improvement or development, for finding solution and re-evaluate.  Some competencies that compulsory to be a school principal are managerial competency, pedagogic, intellectual competency, personality and social competency. The instrument of this research was open –ended questionnaire that had been answered by school principals and also a grading scale that had been filled by primary school teachers. This research used descriptive narrative analysis and comparative analysis. The results gained from case studies among 11 private primary schools. It revealed that school principals tend to use transformational leadership style rather than transactional leadership style. Keywords: competency, leadership style, transformational leadership behavior, transactional leadership behavior

Abstract

This research was conducted to see the picture of employee satisfaction in terms of Herzberg's two-factor theory in PT. WorleyParson Indonesia Jakarta. Based on the initial survey conducted by researchers, it was found that the job satisfaction experienced by employees working.From the above researchers are interested to see how the picture of employee satisfaction in terms of the theory of two factors. In this study the researchers used Herzberg's theory of job satisfaction, Locke, Robbins and others. While the theory of two factors used is the theory advanced by Frederick Herzberg (1959). Job satisfaction questionnaire prepared by Sulastri (2010) based on two-factor theory of Herzberg (1959). The statistical method used in this research is quantitative research methods with the calculation of descriptive statistics. Variables taken from job satisfaction questionnaire developed by Sulastri (2010) based on Herzberg's two-factor theory and interviews. Items are 40 item questionnaire. In this study of employees who are willing to fill the job satisfaction questionnaire totaled 133 people of the total sample of 200 employees were interviewed and of six employees. From the results of this study found that employees generally have a tendency to job satisfaction by factors present in the theory of two factors: motivation factors and hygiene factors. In connection with it could be concluded that there is a tendency of employees were satisfied with their jobs.Keywords: human resources, employee job satisfaction. Herzberg's two-factor theory

Abstract

Education has always been one of the basic necessities of any individual’s life. Education provides opportunities for children to learn, prepare for the future, and be able to change the lives of present and future generations. With education, people can obtain academic achievements that will be useful for his life. Academic achievement in adolescents can be influenced by parenting styles. The aim of the current study is to examine the differences in academic achievement in adolescents based on parenting styles. This study utilizes quantitative data and has 386 subjects.  Data were retrieved through parenting styles questionnaires as well as grade point average (GPA). Data is processed by using One Way ANOVA. Based on the results of research, it was found that there was no differences in academic achievement in adolescents based on parenting, either by father or mother, with a p score on father parenting = .223 and the p score on mother parenting = .737.Keywords: academic achievement, parenting styles, adolescence

Abstract

A profound hearing impairment that happens before the development of language causes several problems for the individual’s academic process and daily communication. Providing an intervention to increase deaf students’ vocabulary as the foundation of their language development is essential. This research was aimed to examine the effectiveness of behavior modification approach using fading and token economy techniques to increase the vocabulary of a student with prelingual profound deafness. The intervention program was adapted from Morris (1985) to teach names of objects and activities. The subject was given three steps of prompt fading and a token every time he succeeded in writing the correct word. Research was conducted on a male prelingual profound deaf student studying at an inclusive primary school who has an average level of non verbal intelligence. Using a single-subject-ABA-single factor research design, the increase in vocabulary is determined by comparing pre-test and post-test. Results indicating that a behavior modification approach using fading and token economy techniques is effective to increase the vocabulary of a student with prelingual profound deafness. The subject was able to understand and produce 87,5% of the eight objects’ names and 100% of the eight activities’ names given.  Keywords: behavior modification, fading, token economy, vocabulary, deaf

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine how the meaning of self compassion in different cultures, especially health workers in North Jakarta when faced failure, suffering or disability themselves, and to analyse if self compassion expressed by Neff is applicable in Indonesia culture. This study uses indigenous psychology approach. This research employs thematic analysis techniques. This technique is applied to the data obtained through open ended questionnaire. The results of these adjustments can be sorted that the degree of the reaction is the overidentification (51.67%), mindfulness (39.17%), self kindness (1.67%), self judgment (6.67%), isolation (0.83%), and common humanity (0% ). Factors affecting self compassion like personality, gender, and cultural roles of parents also appeared on the respondent. In addition to these factors, the researchers also found some new factors affecting health workers in North Jakarta in the face of failure, suffering or feelings of inadequacy that the social environment, external pressure, occupation, education, age, high confidence, motivation and economy. The conclusion of this study is the theory proposed by Neff on self-compassion can be applied in the Indonesian cultural background, which research results obtained by researchers supported by the results of research Clara (2013) on The Meaning of Self Compassion and The Response Toward Failure in Our Society. Abstract

Many shopping centers try to create an environment that makes consumers feel comfortable when they do shopping. Hedonic shopping motivation relates to contentment and enjoyment by shopping experience, it creates happiness feeling. Hedonic shopping motivation can not be separated from the role of culture in the society. This research aimed to know the relationship between individualist-collective culture with hedonic shopping motivation among people in Jakarta. The research used non ecperimental quantitative research. The data was collected by distributing hedonic shopping motivation and individualist-collective culture questionnaire. Total respondents in this research were 134 people. The results revealed collective culture (mean= 18.33) has higher mean rather than individualist culture (mean= 17.29). Statistic analysis with Spearman Coorelation, r= 0.187 ad p= 0.031 < 0.05. Meanwhile, individualistic culture showed no coorelation with hedonic shopping motivation, r= 0.164 and p= 0.059 >0.05. Collective culture also had significant relationship with role shopping (r= 0.241, p= 0.005), social shopping (r=0.179, p= 0.038) and value shopping (r= 0.241, p= 0.042). The research concluded people in Jakarta tend to have collective culture. There was a relationsip between collective culture and hedonic shopping motivation, especially role shopping, social shopping dan value shopping. Keywords: Hedonic Shopping Motivation, Culture, Collective Culture, Individualistic Culture

Abstract

The aim of Study orientation and College Introduction (Orientasi Studi dan Pengenalan Kampus/Ospek) is to give early introduction for new students about a various aspects of college life. Orientation activity divided into university, faculty, and majoring orientation. The main university orientation activity which is held for three days would be extended in faculty and majoring for about 3 months or 1 year and should be attended by all of the new students. Orientation activity usually characterized by mentally challenging activitiy and strong stigma of harshness or violence. Orientation phenomenon is called hazing or bullying. Bullying is described as an oppression, bullying, hazing, extortion, exclusion, and intimidation. Bullying which is happen during orientation tend to valued as stressful situation, therefore each student have to have resilience. Resilience is one’s ability to deal with and to overcome life stressor and perceiving negative experiences as a valuable experience so that one can change to a better life. Resilient people has a several determining factors, included self-esteem and social support. The aim of this research is to examine the significant effect of self-esteem and social support to student’s resilience to deal with bullying experience in college. Sample in this research is 180 participants, using the snowball sampling technique and given measurement instrument such as questionnaires using a Likert scale to measure self-esteem, social support, and resilience. Data analysis in this research using Multiple Regression Analysis with a significance level 0.05. Based on data analysis obtained score R = 0,669, R2 = 0,448. The result of this research concluded that there is a significant effect of self-esteem and social support to resilience. The result showed the proportion of variance explained by all the resilience independent variable is equal to 44.8%, while 55.2% is influenced by other variables outside of research.Keywords: self-esteem; social support; resilience; student

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see an overview of the work ethic of ethnic Chinese traders, this is due to a reflection of a good work ethic through the inherent characteristics of the ethnic Chinese merchants like never give up, work hard, able to delay gratification, and simplicity. The research method used in this research is descriptive quantitative and perform calculations using SPSS 19.0 for windows. Descriptive analysis of the results of frequency on the attached table data, was found that the work ethic of ethnic Chinese traders in the category are likely to be low. this is due to other factors that affect the lifestyle, generational differences, type of work, and the influence of the results of the process of assimilation. The questionnaire used is the Multidimensional Work Ethic Profile - Short Form (SF - MWEP) (Meriac et al., 2013). Thus the hypothesis of the study, which reported an overview of a high work ethic on ethnic Chinese merchants in Jakarta is rejected. Keywords: Ethnic Chinese, Work Ethic, Traders
