Abstract

This paper aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of articles published in the Scopus database on leadership and physical education. The bibliographic data set was administered using VOSviewer. According to the search results, there were a combined 614 articles on leadership and physical education studies. Additionally, the researchers restricted the search to English-language journal articles and the types of documents that may be found. Consequently, 427 articles worth of records were discovered. Based on publications in the Scopus database, the findings revealed that the development of publications in the fields of leadership and physical education has increased, although there is an up-and-down trend from year to year; “quest” became the first choice among other publication media to publish research results; Beauchamp from Canada is the most contributing and influential author on this topic; physical education, physical activity, leadership, curriculum, transformational leadership, adolescents, health, sport, professional development, and education are keywords that frequently feature in those. Therefore, by highlighting specific gaps, a thorough analysis of leadership in physical education might help scholars and practitioners advance current understanding in this field.

Abstract

This study explored the pre-service basic science teachers’ misconceptions using a six-tier diagnostic (STD) test. This study used a cross-sectional survey research model with respondents, namely pre-service basic science teachers (PBSTs) who are first-year students. The six-tier diagnostic test consisted of three questions about change in matter (CIM), classification of matter (COM), and separation of mixtures (SOM). Each test package consists of six questions ranging from questions at the macroscopic level, microscopic communication, level of confidence, symbolic visualization to represent microscopic conditions, and self-confidence in representing concepts. The combination of answers and decisions in six-tier diagnostic includes scientific conception (SC), almost scientific conception (ASC), lack of confidence (LC), lack of knowledge (LK), misconception (MSC), have no conception (HNC). The study showed that the conceptual mastery condition is dominated by the misconceptions (MSC) category. The condition for pre-service basic science teachers’ mastery concepts having the most scientific conception category is related to changes in matter (CIM), while the condition that shows the least scientific conception category is related to material classification (COM). The results can map the conditions of mastery of the pre-service basic science teachers’ concept so that strategies can be designed to correct the emerging misconceptions.

Abstract

This study investigated whether self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy can predict students’ employability levels, either simultaneously or partially. Researchers used class XII students of Muhammadiyah 1 Bambanglipuro Vocational High School, Indonesia with the criteria of having implemented industrial work practices (N=433) as research subjects. The sample consisted of 168 students obtained randomly by cluster sampling technique. Likert model scale as the main instrument in obtaining empiric data to answer the research hypothesis using multiple regression techniques with the help of the SPSS V.23 program. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy have a very significant effect on the level of employability (F=134.28 and sig.=.000). Partially, each independent variable (self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy) also has a very significant effect on employability with statistical values (t) obtained at 11.54, 3.24, 7.99 and sig. level of .000, .001, .000. These findings provide evidence that self-originating factors (self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy) are sufficiently capable of increasing employability. Thus, it can be concluded that internal factors are one of the critical factors in predicting the employability of vocational students.

Abstract

In recent years, styles of transformational and transactional leadership have become an important area of research because of its significant impact on teachers’ outcomes such as commitment, job satisfaction, self-efficacy. However, the relationships between transformational and transactional leadership styles of school principals and teachers’ organizational commitment have been rarely investigated in the educational context in Vietnam. This study aimed to determine how transformational and transactional leadership styles influence the organizational commitment of Vietnamese high school teachers. The study employed two standardized surveys to collect data from 387 teachers at 24 public high schools in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. The results of correlation coefficient analyses indicated that teachers’ organizational commitment was positively influenced by transformational leadership and negatively influenced by transactional leadership. In addition, the results of multiple regression analyses showed that the organizational commitment of teachers was predicted by all components of both leadership styles of principals. The present study suggested that school leaders might combine both transformational and transactional leadership styles in their leadership practices to improve teachers’ organizational commitment.

Abstract

The challenges faced by the counsellors-in-training are enormous. Therefore, investigating emotional quotient (EQ) and counselling self-efficacy among counsellors-in-training is crucial. This study aimed to examine the EQ and counselling self-efficacy levels among counsellors-in-training and investigate the relationships between these variables. A total of 373 counselling students from three universities in the Northern Peninsular of Malaysia have participated in this study. This study involved a quantitative method using survey as a data collection technique and also employed a convenience sampling procedure. There were two questionnaires used in this study, namely Bar-On emotional quotient inventory (EQ-i) and counselling self-estimate inventory. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between EQ and counselling self-efficacy which all sub-constructs for both measures are well-associated with each other. In conclusion, these two variables are essential to ensure counselling students would move toward a better developing identity of counsellors-in-training and encourage the growth of professional competency among trainee counsellors in the future. Hence, it is vital for the government to ensure that quality counselling services should be provided for the community to deal with this problem.

Abstract

Supervision of learning is one of the most important parts of improving the quality of education. It is necessary to develop an evaluation instrument that can assess the performance of school principals’ learning supervision, to achieve national education goals that accord the needs of the times. So, the purpose of this study is to produce an instrument for assessing the learning supervision performance of the head of vocational high school (VHS) that can be used as a reference for supervisors. The method used is research and development (R&D) with a 4D model defined, designed, developed, and disseminated. The research subjects involved 20 school supervisors, 218 principals, and 314 teachers. Data collection techniques employed interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis used the qualitative analysis techniques (interviews) and quantitative analysis (statistics). The results showed that this assessment instrument is an excellent category with an average score of 4.21. This assessment consists of three assessor components: school supervisors, teachers, and school principals. This assessment instrument can be the latest guideline for supervisors who will evaluate the performance of school principals and teachers, so the evaluation carried out is effective, efficient, and optimal in improving the quality of education.

Abstract

In online learning, students often experience problems related to the use of technology. One of them is enterprise resource planning (ERP) technology. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the technology readiness index (TRI) to measure the extent to which students’ readiness for ERP gamification. This research targets students who use ERP gamification during management information systems and accounting information systems courses. The technique of determining the sample is using a census. So that all the population is used as a sample of 153 students in Indonesia, then analyzed using TRI. Through TRI analysis using SEM PLS, most students studying ERP gamification have a medium readiness index. The findings of this research showed that students are very close to technology, so they have a strong adoption of technology. Most students have an explorer character where they are enthusiastic and have high curiosity about learning ERP gamification. Pioneers who need a little encouragement from external parties to adopt ERP gamification. However, typical skeptics should be given a concrete example of the benefits of using ERP in learning. This research is also a benchmark for developing technology-based learning media according to the characteristics of students who are intended for technology in higher education.

Abstract

This paper proposes a framework for participation determinants in lifelong learning through the Independent Learning Policy and Independent Campus or Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka/Independent Learning Independent Campus (MBKM). The framework is based on the technology acceptance model (TAM), self-determination theory (SDT), theory of planned behavior (TPB), and institutional theory. This study contributes to the literature by identifying specific factors and indicators to improve along with their impacts on the participation when the organizers of such initiatives wish to increase participation. Indonesia is the biggest country in South-East Asia with a large economy and influence in the world. Conditions, progress, and setbacks in Indonesia will influence other countries. Many job applicants do not meet the requirements for the job they applied for. Therefore, the Indonesian Ministry of Education initiated the MBKM programs to develop human quality, especially the university students to enhance their skills to meet the job requirements. The 740 respondents completed the online survey with 150 questions to represent reflective indicators. The results were analyzed with the partially least square-structural equation model (PLS-SEM) method and found the influential factors driving participation in MBKM are social influence, supporting factors, government decisions, utility, and recognition. further analysis indicated that convenience and financial incentive factors do not affect participation.

Abstract

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has extremely caused massive disruptions in the education sector, and this led to the adoption of full-distance learning modalities across different educational institutions worldwide. However, studies are still needed within the context of the Philippines in terms of the impact of the pandemic on university students in light of a gradual limited face-to-face transition. This study determined the Filipino college students’ perceived impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress symptomatology (DASS) among them. This cross-sectional study surveyed Filipino university students from a public higher education institution in the Philippines via convenience sampling. A total of 3,718 students participated in the study. Analysis showed that despite the respondents’ level of DASS being roughly similar and normal, half of them is experiencing mild to extremely severe symptomatology. Further results indicated that there is a statistically significant difference in their DASS when grouped according to their gender and class level. The findings will be beneficial to multiple stakeholders in designing data-driven policies that would maximize the possibility of a safe resumption of limited, gradual, and eventually, full face-to-face modalities.
