Abstract

Operating in the competitive dual banking market, Islamic banks’ behavior often mimics conventional banks. One of the ways to do this is by managing their earnings so that their deposit rate of return could be closely pegged to the conventional banks’ deposit interest rate. Farook et al. (2012) define this term as “profit distribution management” or PDM. This paper investigates whether PDM practice in Islamic banks is affected by their market power. Using a sample of Islamic banks from 2009 to 2013 from Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country adopting dual banking market, we find that bank with a high market power are less engage in PDM. This means that, when Islamic banks are able to set high price of their banking product in the competitive market, they are already reach specific market position. In this case, Islamic banks is observed manage their earnings but in the lower intensity. We also provide empirical evidence that other factors such as governance structure and market share of Islamic banks are also matter for the PDM. Some policy implications are discussed.

Microfinance is one of the key aspects that help the development of MSME, and it also applies globally. In many previous studies, there are no coherence about the impact of microfinance towards the development of MSME. We investigate the impact of microfinance to the development of MSME in Indonesia. Panel regression is the method that is utilized in this present study because the current data is in panel form which came from 32 provinces in Indonesia with the range of 2012-2014. Results indicated that there are two variables which are the number of microloans, HDI that significantly influence the development of MSME, microloans and HDI are negatively affected. The conclusion reflected the public views of Indonesian regarding entrepreneurship & MSME development. Entrepreneurship is viewed poorly by the public, society values working in cooperations are more valuable. The results of the research also indicated boundaries such as regulations, and views that obstructed the development of MSME in Indonesia.

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have an important role and strategic for economic growth. This is because at the time of the economic crisis in Indonesia, SMEs are the economic sectors which have the most excellent durability. Wedoro Village in Sidoarjo city, Indonesia, is famous for the footwear creative industry especially slippers and shoes. A wide variety of slippers and shoes with different types available. Stores and outlets are widespread across the village. Wedoro region has been known as one of the predecessors of creative industries in the field of footwear. Currently the industrial centres of creative footwear is experiencing a decline in sales compared with its heyday in 2001-2006 years ago. This research aims to design a development strategy of the creative industry centre in Wedoro by using SWOT analysis and grand strategy. The results of this study indicate that the cause of the decline in sales is a flood of Chinese products, rising raw material prices, and the lack of innovation in product design. Hence, creative industry in Indonesia especially in Wedoro Village might need a guidance from the government in developing innovation in product design and marketing. It is therefore expected that the existence of a creative industry in Wedoro can grow and create occupations especially for local residents and also increase the revenue of the Sidoarjo city.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze negative affectivity and conflict styles as potential causes of workplace victimization. A sample survey of 100 respondents was conducted in the public sector in Indonesia. Multiple regression analysis was used in the study to test the hypothesis. Results suggested that there was a significant relationship between negative affectivity and perceived victimization. Furthermore, we found that conflict styles were related to perceived victimization. Obliging style and integrating style had a negative relationship with perceived victimization. Meanwhile, the dominating style was positively related to perceived victimization. This study investigated empirically workplace victimization in the public sector from the victims’ perspective. Caution should be exercised in generalizing the results. Future studies can investigate both victims' and perpetrator's perspectives in the analysis of workplace victimization. Also, future research should pay attention to the extent to which certain types of leaders, organizational factors and person behaviors influence victimization. An understanding of individual determinants will help an organization to prevent victimization in the environment. Also, the organization should have a certain mechanism to protect employees from workplace victimization. To the extent of the author’s knowledge, this research is one of the few studies that has been made from the victim’s perspective of workplace victimization in the public sector in Indonesia.

This study aims to find the effect of cash flow, profitability, and financial constraint on investment decision in Indonesia. Previousstudies have proved that cash flow, profitability, and financial constraint have an effect on company investment level. The utilization of logit regression model to classify the condition of financial constraint and multiple regression on the 123 samples of manufacturing companies during 2012 – 2014 period find that cash flow and profitability has a positive effect on investment level in company that face financial constraint and financial unconstraint company. The moderating test shows that profitability has stronger effect on the investment level that experience financial constraint rather than in financial unconstraint company. Meanwhile, cash flow does not have different effect on financial constraint or unconstraint companies.

Abstract

Although the government has allocated cash transfer programs to reduce poverty and improve the education sector, the participation of senior high schools in rural areas in Indonesia is still meager.  This research investigates the relationship between conditional cash transfers in Indonesia (Program Indonesia Pintar–PIP and Program Keluarga Harapan–PKH) with high school participation in children in Rural Indonesia. Using the 2018 socioeconomic survey data released by BPS, we found that children benefited from PIP children had a greater opportunity to participate in high school compared to those who did not. On the other hand, children from PKH beneficiary have a lower chance of attending high school, compared to those who come from families who do not receive PKH. Although conditional cash transfers generally have a positive effect on children's school participation, the success of conditional cash transfers relies on the knowledge of the people about the importance of children's education investments, simple program schemes, secure payment schemes, and efficient and effective technology-based controls.
