This study aims to determine the perceptions of teachers and students towards the implementation of blended learning in English, at high schools in the city of Bandung. The research method adopted for this research is the mix method between qualitative and quantitative. Participants involved were teachers and students taken randomly from as many as nine senior high schools spread across the city of Bandung. The technique and data processing were carried out by distributing a questionnaire that each participant had to fill in, the questionnaire contained seven aspects of how they responded to the advantages each of both teachers and students due to the English blended learning method. After the data were collected, then an analysis was carried out by calculating on the perceptions of teachers and students. The main advantage according to the teachers perception was challenging for teachers in preparing the material and using the media (93% perception responses). Meanwhile, the main advantage according to students perception was that English blended learning could improve their language skills (77% perception responses). As suggestions, it can be conveyed that blended learning can be continued for this era of Covid 19. Keywords: English, Blended Learning, Teachers’ Perspective, Students’ Perspective

This study aims to improve Vocabulary mastery skills using Total Physical Response Method,the low Vocabulary mastery of eight grade in junior high school is caused by two factors,namely run short of understanding of the significancy of Vocabulary by reason of slight of Vocabulary that is owned,then the difficulty of students speaking in English,because of the scant of Vocabulary they have so they are confused when speaking.this study uses descrivtipe qualitative method. the responden of the study is the eight graders of SMP in Cimahi, the total of 33 students with specifications male 21 students and female 12 students. the author pick sampling jenuh on probability sampling.the instruments used were observation sheet,questionnaire,interview and test.data gain out of the instruments that have been used are interview ,observation sheet,questionnaire and tests.the results showed that the Total Physical Response Method was effectively applied in studying Vocabulary because after applied the Total Physical Response Method in the learning process there was an increase in understanding of the signifiance of Vocabulary as well as an increase in student motivation and creativity in following the learning process, and the test outcome of the tests given were satisfactory because the average get a minimum score of 80 and a maximum of 97 with KKM 75.with the accomplishment of these values could be said the use of the Total Physical Response Method can help improve students’ Vocabulary mastery.Keywords: Vocabulary, Total Physical Response Method

This research is based on the use of the Memrise application in a vocabulary study of seventh-grade students. This research was carried out based on a preliminary study which showed that students had difficulty learning English because of the lack of understanding of the vocabulary they had, and the method used by the teacher to teach vocabulary is still in a conventional way. The subjects of this study were 35 students consisting of 28 male and 10 female seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Cililin. The purpose of this study is to improve students' understanding and achievement of vocabulary through the use of the Memrise application. Vocabulary tests and questionnaires were used as the instruments of eliciting the data. The results of the test and questionnaire study showed an increase in grades, and students' interest and motivation after using the memrise application in vocabulary learning. From the results obtained, it was concluded that memrise application is recommended to be used as an alternative method in teaching vocabulary. Besides students, with this Memrise application, it can add to the teacher's insight about the use of methods in teaching in the classroom.

This study aims to describe the formation and the meaning of compound words that related to COVID-19 pandemics used in The Jakarta Post’s Health Column Article on Third Week of April 2020. There are two research question in this study: (1) What are the type of COVID-19 compound words and their lexical categories found in The Jakarta Post’s Health Column Article on Third Week of April 2020, and (2) How does those related COVID-19 compound words create meaning. To answer the research question, the writer uses the theory of morphology and semantics. The findings showed that there are 26 compound words in The Jakarta Post’s Health Column on the third week of April 2020. Based on the type of compound words, there are 86.4% compound noun, 11.5% compound adjective, and 3.9% compound verb. The most dominant lexical category is from compound nouns which are Noun+Noun and Adjective + Noun. Based on the meaning of compound words, there are are 80.76% endocentric compounds and 19.24% exocentric compounds.Keywords: Compound words, COVID-19, Morphology, Semantics

Communication will be impossible if everything had to be defined or explained every time we spoke. Whatever a speaker or writer assume that the receiver of the message already knows is called presupposition. This research analyzed about presupposition of message Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as President of The Republic of Turkey on Human Rights Day, December 10, 2018. The aims of this research are to find out the types of presupposition and identify the most dominant type of presupposition that used by Erdogan. Classification about types of presupposition by Yule (1996) as cited in Tryana & Satelah (2018) used in this research. The researchers analyzed the data with some steps applying the qualitative method, the researchers identifying the scripts of the speech, classifying the utterances into presupposition and categorizing them based on the types of presupposition. After that, counting the types of presupposition in percentage. As the result, The existential presupposition is the dominant type in Erdogan’s speech with the percentage 56,67% and followed by lexical and factive in the second and third position. This article discusses several points on the topic of Indonesian relative clauses and some foreign languages. The method used in this research is descriptive contrastive analysis. The focus is on finding some results from previous papers on how the languages share similarities and differences as well as how they differ with English. In this case it was found that Indonesian relative clauses are known as being distinctive and different from structured English counterparts. Meanwhile, there is a tendency that relative Indonesian clauses always use passive constructs to relate noun phrases or nouns in complex sentences. Keywords: Relative Clauses, Foreign Language

In Indonesian context, English has been taught in elementary school level and parents’ involvement is considered as one of the influencing factors which has contribution to the children’s language learning achievement. The rapid, complex and continuous societal changes in this digital era might impact and alter the possibilities of parents’ involvement in their children’s language learning. The current study explored the triggers and the barriers of parents’ home-based involvement in their children’s English language learning and the features of their involvement. The qualitative research by implementing semi-structured, in- depth interview with four parents of elementary students at one of private schools in Yogyakarta city was conducted. The findings show the three main triggers in parents’ home-based involvement namely: (1) parents’ belief of the importance of English, (2) the implementation of school technological learning tools and (3) parents’ expectation of their children academic achievement. While the barriers that parents encounter in their involvement are: (1) parents’ lack of time, (2) parents’ unproficiency in English and (3) parents’ unfamiliarity with the use of technological tools. As the features of involvement, the study reveals parents’ monitoring, accompaniment, assistances in their children’s home-learning activities, providing some additional English learning media and financing English private course. Media in learning process is very intact because it will be supported from the learning to be more easily exposed. Many experts say that with the media, it can help teachers and students in the learning process to be able and achieve the goals of the learning process. This research aimed it introducing and describing how the preparation and utilization of the flash cards media are used by teachers in teaching English to young learners. This research was conducted at SDN Baros Mandiri 2 Cimahi. The method used in this research is the descriptive research in accordance with the case study that occurred. The source of the data was the English teacher and the subjects were the second grade students of SDN Baros Mandiri 2 Cimahi. Observation, interviews and documentation are the data collection techniques used in this research. The findings reveal that teachers use flash card media according to the material to be delivered to young learners. Based on the results of the research the flash card media can help facilitate teachers in the delivery of learning material, students are also more enthusiastic, excited and very happy to learn English and very influential in the teaching and learning process. Abstract This study is aimed at portraying teacher’s strategies in teaching reading comprehension to students by involving an English teacher. In collecting the data, interview was conducted to identify the strategies of teaching reading comprehension. The result revealed that the strategies used by the teacher were understanding text, individual and group learning strategy, and QAR strategy. The result indicated that teachers need to be equipped by strategies in teaching reading comprehension in order to help the students to cope with the difficulties in learning English. The choice of strategies was adapted by the teachers with the materials, the syllabus and curriculum. Those strategies were effective in teaching reading comprehension because it can help student to comprehend the text and they could exchange their opinion with their friends. This study has two purposes, the first is describing how the teacher’s preparation the instructional media and the second one is explaining how the teacher’s utilized the instructional media in teaching English to young learners. This study was conducted in SDN Baros Mandiri 3 Cimahi at fifth-grade students. To collect the data the researcher used observation in the classroom and interview with the English teacher. This method used a descriptive qualitative. The result of this study showed that in preparing the instructional media the teacher did two kinds of preparation. The English teacher’s stated that the preparation was: first, selecting the suitable instructional media related to the material that will be taught. Second, mastering the material for delivering to students. The instructional media used by the English teacher’s is flashcards, the English teacher’s stated that flashcards are mostly because it doesn’t need a lot of preparation. Flashcards are also useful to help the teacher in the learning process because the students can visualize the words through seen at the flashcards. The use of flashcards also easy, the teacher only needs to show one by one of the pictures to all students and they would be guessed the name of the pictures related to the material, students who can guess will come to the front of the class and write down the word in English.
