Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze errors by male and female students based on Watson's criteria in solving the material on flat side spaces. From the results, it can be seen the types of student errors, percentages, and causes of student errors that occur. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection is done by tests and interviews. Students are given a test to find out the type of error that occurs when they solve a problem. Interviews with subjects were conducted to find out the cause of their type of error in problem solving. In this study there were 10 subjects of grade VIII-1 students of SMPN 1 Cihampelas. Five male and female students. Data analysis was carried out by calculating the presentation of each indicator then interpreted based on Watson's criteria to determine the description of students' mistakes in working on questions and the factors that influenced students to make mistakes. Based on the results of this study, male students tend to make missing conclusions and incorrect procedures, the percentage obtained at the missing conclusions is 30% and the percentage of procedures that is not right is 23.3%. While female students tend to do missing data and incorrect data, the percentage obtained in the missing data is 23.3% and the percentage on the incorrect data is 20%.

Abstract

Learning mathematics by understanding mathematical concepts is very important, with students understanding mathematical concepts will help problems in mathematics, even problems in everyday life. This study aims to determine the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts in algebraic form material. This research uses qualitative research with descriptive method. The subjects in this study were seventh grade students in one of the junior high schools in Purwakarta Regency and the selection of subjects was done by purposive sampling technique. The data collection technique used is a description test of understanding mathematical concepts in algebraic form with 3 questions. The data were analyzed by giving a score for each subject's answer, then the recorded score was changed in the form of a percentage value. The test results were analyzed according to the indicators of the ability to understand concepts. It can be seen from the results of the research that the indicator restating a concept has a percentage of 64% with a good level of understanding, indicators using and choosing certain procedures or operations have a percentage of 53% with a sufficient level of understanding, and indicators of applying concepts or algorithms in problem solving have a percentage of 53% with a sufficient level of understanding. All students' ability to understand mathematical concepts has a percentage of 57% with a sufficient level of understanding.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze students' perceptions of errors in statistical material in terms of gender differences. This research was conducted in class IX SMP Negeri 1 Tirtajaya, Karawang regency by taking a sample of 8 people, male and female students according to their knowledge. The research is a study conducted using descriptive qualitative methods with the material used is statistical material. The process of data analysis is done in stages, namely collecting data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. Data collection was obtained from data collection in the form of data solving statistical test questions by analyzing student errors in solving statistical problems. Presentation of data is presented in brief descriptions, pictures, and presentation of descriptions in the form of descriptive analysis of errors in solving basic statistical problems according to Newman. Conclusions are drawn from the review of the data that has been presented and examine the explanation and causal relations in the analysis process. The results showed that female students were superior in solving problems in statistical material compared to male students. There were still errors in solving these problems.

Abstract

Learning model Resource Based Learning exposes students to various learning resources. In addition, students are given the freedom to determine how to complete answers so as to provide opportunities for students to be more skilled in determining answers. The purpose of this study was to determine the critical thinking and mathematical communication skills of students of SMP 2 Pubian Central Lampung. The research method used is the Quasy Experimental Design with Post-test Control Group Design and the sampling technique used in this study is. The homogeneity test uses thetest multivariateof analysis , statistical test research shows that the p-value is smaller than the test criteria (0.000 <0.05) with the significance level of the test criteria, namely 5% or 0.05, in other words it can be concluded that the ability to think critically and Mathematical communication applied with thelearning model Resource Based Learning is better than the critical thinking skills and mathematical communication applied with conventional learning.

Abstract

Difficulties in solving a mathematical problem are still experienced by many students. This difficulty will be analyzed by researcher in Junior High School students at the Islamic Boarding School in solving the problem description of the subject matter of flat side geometry. This research was conducted in class IX students of Al-Ittihad Plus Junior High School Cianjur in the even semester of the 2019/2020 school year. This type of research used in this study is a case study. The research instrument used was a written test. The subjects of this study uses stratified random sampling. Six research subjects were chosen consisting of two subjects with high, moderate and low mathematical abilities in terms of the results of tests given to 36 prospective subjects. In this case study students were given a test by the researcher, then after being given the test the researcher conducted an open interview to the students to produce data. This test is a measuring tool in analyzing student difficulties regarding the subject matter of flat side geometry cube, cuboid, prysm and pyramid. An open interview was conducted to find out more deeply about the difficulties experienced by students. It was cocluded that the results of this case study were students with high, moderate and low levels of mathematical ability had difficulty in: (1) determining the mathematical model in solving the problems presented correctly, (2) determining the concepts and strategies in solving prolems and (3) understanding mathematical problems.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe and analyze the difficulties of students in solving problems of mathematics communication skills of students of grade VII SMP Darul Hikmah regarding the material of linear equations and inequalities of one variable. The data analysis technique uses descriptive methods, namely analyzing data by describing or describing the data that has been collected. The population of SMP Darul Hikmah students is 26 students. The data were obtained through test techniques using instruments, amounting to 4 questions and designed in the form of a description (essay) as an indicator to measure the level of communication skills. From the results of the calculation of the 4 indicators, namely indicators of organizing and combining mathematical thinking of 75.96%, indicators of analyzing and evaluating mathematical thinking of 83.65%, indicators using mathematical language to express correctly by 44.23%, indicators of communicating mathematical thinking logically and clearly so that it is easy to understand at 12.50%. Based on these data, junior high school students' mathematical communication skills are still in the low category, namely 54% and need improvement.

Abstract

Social arithmetics is a mathematical material which uses very close everyday life. For this reason, social arithmetics is very important to be understood properly in order to we can use maximal. In learning social arithmetics, students often experience mistakes when working on problems. This study aims to determine the mistakes students and their causes based on the Newman error analysis method. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. This research was held in MTs Negeri 1 Cimahi City by taking 30 students of grade VIII for the sample. The instruments in this study were 4 essay questions that have been tested for validity, reliability, distinguishing features, and difficulty indexes. The data in this study were processed using Microsoft Excel. After analyzing based on students' answers, the research shows that some of the students have a problem with Newman method. The most common type of error is the students can’t concluding the final answer (enconding errors). The other type of errors that students experience the least is reading errors.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to analyze the mathematical disposition of first level students. The research population is all 1st grade students at one of the Private Universities in Bandung. In this study, two sample classes were taken, one class as the control class and the other as the experimental class. The research design used is Posttest-Only Control Design. A set of mathematical disposition scales consisting of positive statements and negative statements using a Likert scale to determine students' mathematical dispositions is used as an instrument in this study. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics. After the data analysis process was carried out, it was concluded that the mathematical disposition of students with CORE learning models is better than mathematical disposition of students with conventional learning models.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' creative thinking skills in developing mathematics learning media. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were 27 students majoring in mathematics education at a state university in Malang. The collection technique is a project-based group assignment in developing instructional media and the analysis technique uses the indicators used by following the indicators of creative thinking skills and data collection is the assessment of product results and interviews if needed. The results of the study show that the capability to think actively of students in developing learning media is included in the creative model of modification, namely changing the shape of a product so that it becomes more attractive and more practical (2) students develop mathematics learning media based on the problems found, in order to assist students in understanding the learning material; (3) the level of student creativity in developing learning media is very high despite the covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This research is a case study research that aims to find out the difficulties of junior high school students in solving SPLDV problems. The subjects in this study were 10 students of class VIII-B MTs Negeri 3 Purwakarta, consisting of 3 students who had low abilities, 4 students who had moderate abilities, and 3 students who had high abilities. The instrument used in this study was in the form of test questions with a description of 6 questions which were arranged based on the cognitive domain of Bloom's taxonomy from the level of questions C3 to C6. The data analysis technique carried out consisted of checking student answers by calculating the percentage of each indicator, determining the type of error in answering the question, and knowing the type of student difficulty. The results showed that students still had difficulties in solving SPLDV problems. The success rate of students in solving SPLDV questions is still relatively low, this can be seen from the number of students who have difficulty solving SPLDV problems, especially on indicators about the ability to apply or use procedures to model and detail the value of the variables asked in a PLDV. The level of difficulty in these indicators is quite high. So that efforts are needed to improve students' ability to understand SPLDV material in online learning.
