Abstract

Developing a problem-solving skill for important things which need to be paid attention is how the students' thinking process in solving a problem is. Thinking about what is thought in this term relates to students' awareness of their ability to develop various ways which may be taken in solving a problem is known as metacognition. The existence of metacognition is very important for students in solving mathematical problems. This is a qualitative study using the grade VII students having medium ability as the subjects. The results of the study obtained that through intervention conducted by the researchers in 5 meetings, metacognition capability emerged in the subjects so that with their own ability they are able to solve mathematical problems provided.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the internal cognitive conflicts that occur to students when they were solving mathematics problems. There were two participants in this research. They were 7th grade students from SMPN 1 Malang. The first participant was a student who has experienced internal cognitive conflicts and has capability to resolve it as well as the mathematics problems. Meanwhile, the second participant was a student who has experienced internal cognitive conflict but cannot resolve that conflict and also the mathematics problems. This research was used descriptive qualitative. The data of this study was gathered from students’ test on cognitive conflict and interview which was adapted from Newman's interview procedure. It was found that, the students who are able to find a relationship between the ratio of the number of workers and the number of chairs produced in a day, have capability to resolve their cognitive conflicts so that it brings them to the right problem solving. Meanwhile, the students that fail to build a relationship between the comparison concepts with mathematics problems and fail to find the relation between the numbers of people with the number of chairs in one day can not resolve the cognitive conflict so that they solve the problems in the wrong ways.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' creative thinking skills in developing mathematics learning media. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were 27 students majoring in mathematics education at a state university in Malang. The collection technique is a project-based group assignment in developing instructional media and the analysis technique uses the indicators used by following the indicators of creative thinking skills and data collection is the assessment of product results and interviews if needed. The results of the study show that the capability to think actively of students in developing learning media is included in the creative model of modification, namely changing the shape of a product so that it becomes more attractive and more practical (2) students develop mathematics learning media based on the problems found, in order to assist students in understanding the learning material; (3) the level of student creativity in developing learning media is very high despite the covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Kurang kuatnya penguasaan konsep mahasiswa terhadap materi yang dipelajari mengakibatkan munculnya kesalahpahaman atau kesalahan dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika. Mendeskripsikan kesalahan mahasiswa Pendidikan Matematika dalam menyelesaikan masalah fungsi dan persamaan polinomial ditinjau dari tipe kesalahan Kastolan adalah tujuan penelitian ini. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yakni penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Pentingnya penelitian tentang kesalahan mahasiswa dapat menjadi acuan sejauh mana pemahaman dan penguasaan konsep mahasiswa terhadap materi yang telah dipelajari. Terpilih sebanyak empat subjek secara purposive sampling berdasarkan hasil pekerjaan dengan langkah-langkah penyelesaian yang tidak lengkap atau menunjukkan adanya kesalahan. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah peneliti, lembar tes, serta pedoman wawancara. Hasil pada penelitian ini menunjukkan kesalahan tertinggi yang dilakukan mahasiswa terletak pada kesalahan teknik dengan persentase 43,9% dan dikategorikan kesalahan berat. Kesalahan kedua dengan kategori kesalahan cukup berat ialah kesalahan konseptual dengan persentase sebesar 39.4%. Kesalahan ketiga ialah kesalahan prosedural dengan persentase sebesar 16.7% dan termasuk pada kategori kesalahan ringan.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan produk berupa LKS berbasis Guided Discovery Learning pada materi Statistika kelas VIII yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Penelitian Research and Development (R&D) ini menggunakan model pengembangan Plomp. Dalam penelitian pengembangan LKS ini menggunakan teknik analisis data hasil uji validitas, uji kepraktisan, dan uji keefektifan produk. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah LKS yang dinyatakan valid berdasarkan uji validasi oleh validator dengan hasil 93,75%. Setelah dilakukan uji validasi, LKS diujicobakan kepada subjek penelitian dan dinyatakan praktis berdasarkan hasil angket respon siswa yaitu 82,19% dan angket respon guru yaitu 93,31%. LKS juga dinyatakan efektif berdasarkan hasil tes formatif subjek penelitian yaitu terdapat 80% siswa mendapat nilai di atas KKM.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa bertipe Camper dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita berdasarkan tahapan pemecahan masalah yang dikemukakan oleh Polya. Materi yang diujikan yaitu Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek pada penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 3 Nganjuk. Pemilihan subjek penelitian diawali dengan memberikan angket Adversity Response Profile (ARP) pada 27 siswa. Subjek penelitian yang dipilih adalah siswa yang bertipe campers. Siswa yang bertipe campers memiliki skor sebesar 95 s/d 134. Subjek penelitian terpilih lalu diminta untuk mengerjakan tes tulis pemecahan masalah dan kemudian dilanjutkan wawancara. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah angket Adversity Response Profile (ARP), tes pemecahan masalah, dan pedoman wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa bertipe campers tidak dapat memenuhi semua tahapan polya. Subjek C1 hanya mampu memenuhi sampai tahapan kedua polya yaitu merencanakan penyelesaian masalah. Sedangkan pada subjek C2 dan C3 hanya mampu memenuhi tahapan pertama polya yaitu memahami masalah.

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the relationship between student’s algebraic thinking and cognitive style of Field Independent (FI) and Field Dependent (FD). The method implemented in the study is Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT) which was intended to categorize students into the FI and FD styles. Afterward, to collect the data of students’ algebra thinking ability, a test was administered. The result of the test was compared to the result of GEFT test by integrating a computer program to find out the relationship between the students’ algebraic thinking and their cognitive styles, both FD and FI. The subjects of this research were the eighth-grade students totaling at 24 students. The findings of this study indicate that there is no relationship between manipulating symbols and students’ cognitive style.. There is a relationship between generalizing and formalizing and stundents’ cognitive styles. There is a relationship between using algebra as a tool and FD. There is a relationship between reasoning and representation and student’s cognitive style.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi bangun datar ditinjau dari gaya belajar. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII SMPN 1 Jereweh, Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 8 dengan masing-masing dua siswa dari visual, auditori, kinestetik dan visual-auditori. Data penelitian diambil dari kuesioner gaya belajar, lembar tes siswa, dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data pada penelitian ini yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Data kuesioner dilakukan untuk menentukan kecendrungan gaya belajar siswa, sedangkan lembar tes untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir krtitis siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada masing-masing gaya belajar memiliki tingkatan yang berbeda. Siswa dengan gaya belajar visual memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis pada kategori cukup kritis, siswa dengan gaya belajar auditorial memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis pada kategori kurang kritis, siswa dengan gaya belajar kinestetik memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis pada kategori cukup kritis, sedangkan siswa dengan gaya belajar visual-auditori memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis pada kategori kritis. Dari 3 gaya belajar tersebut didapatkan bahwa gaya belajar visual memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis lebih baik dari auditori dan kinestetik. This study aims to describe students' critical thinking ability on two-dimentional figure material in terms of learning styles. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were students of class VIII SMPN 1 Jereweh, West Sumbawa Regency. The research subjects were 8 with two students each from visual, auditory, kinesthetic and visual-auditory. The research data were taken from learning style questionnaires, student test sheets, and interviews. Data analysis techniques in this study are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Questionnaire data was conducted to determine the tendency of students' learning styles, while the test sheet was to determine students' critical thinking ability. The results showed that students' critical thinking ability in each learning style had different levels. Students with visual learning styles have critical thinking ability in the moderately critical category, students with auditory learning styles have critical thinking ability in the less critical category, students with kinesthetic learning styles have critical thinking ability in the moderately critical category, while students with visual-auditory learning styles have the ability to think critically in the critical category. From the 3 learning styles, it was found that the visual learning style has better critical thinking ability than auditory and kinesthetic.

Abstract

Relational understanding is conceptual understanding that focuses on the interrelationships between concepts. The initial research conducted in the class of XI-Grade/Natural Sciences of the SMA Nasional Malang showed that students still had a low relational understanding. The results of observation of learning activities also show that learning activities do not support the relational understanding of students. Classroom action research was carried out to provide a solution to the problem by applying the TPSS type of the cooperative learning model. There are two cycles in this study, each of which consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Indicators that the research is successful are: (1) in the last cycle test, the four indicators that have been determined of the students’ relational understanding appear; and (2) the application by the observer of the TPSS type of the cooperative learning model is given the value, at least, “Good”. This study was declared successful after the second cycle. The steps of the TPSS type of the cooperative learning model are: (1) Think; (2) Pair; (3) Square; and (4) Share. Pemahaman relasional adalah pemahaman konseptual yang berfokus pada keterkaitan antar konsep. Penelitian awal yang dilaksanakan pada kelas XI IPA 1 SMA Nasional Malang menunjukkan bahwa peserta didik masih memiliki pemahaman relasional yang rendah. Hasil observasi kegiatan pembelajaran juga menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan pembelajaran belum mendukung pemahaman relasional peserta didik. Penelitian tindakan kelas dilaksanakan untuk memberikan solusi dari masalah tersebut dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TPSS. Terdapat dua siklus dalam penelitian ini yang masing-masing terdiri atas perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Indikator keberhasilan dalam penelitian ini yaitu: (1) hasil tes akhir siklus peserta didik dapat memenuhi empat indikator pemahaman relasional yang telah ditentukan; dan (2) keterlaksanaan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TPSS berdasarkan hasil observasi aktivitas guru dan peserta didik oleh observer memperoleh nilai dengan kategori minimal “Baik”. Penelitian ini dinyatakan berhasil setelah dilakukan siklus kedua. Langkah-langkah model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TPSS adalah: (1) Think; (2) Pair; (3) Square; dan (4) Share.

Abstract

Argumentative ability can be seen from the argumentation pattern that appears. This pattern needs to be evaluated to look over the quality of the argumentation to make the right problem-solving. This evaluation can be done by recognizing the components that make up the argument. This study goals to describe students' argumentation abilities in solving statistical problem based on Adversity Quotients (AQ). This qualitative descriptive research elaborated 39 students taking a statistical methods course. Subjects were grouped into three types of Adversity Quotient based on the ARP (Adversity Response Profile) questionnaire results. Data were obtained using statistical problem tests and interviews. The outcomes showed three levels of AQ found in students, namely Camper, Toward Climber, and Climber. Camper-type students bring up the Claim-Data-Warrant pattern. Students with AQ levels towards climbers tend to have the same pattern as the Camper type. In comparison, students with the AQ Climber type have a Claim-Data-Warrants-Backing pattern. Based on the outcomes of the study, it can see that students' argumentation skills are determined by the Adversity Quotient level they have when solving statistical problems.
